CSFF Blog Tour: George Bryan Polivka's Legend of the Firefish, Day One

Greetings all! Welcome to Day One introducing you to a great new Christian Fantasy book: The Legend of the Firefish by George Bryan Polivka. Now, I haven't read the book. Sadly, I've a deadline to meet and little time to read. And, honestly, I've heard so many great things about this "Piratey" fantasy that I'm a little leery of reading it because I'm afraid it might somehow influence the pirate adventure I'm writing right now. LOL

Nonetheless, I believe this to be a book series worth your time. So over the next three days, I'm going to provide as much introduction as I can dig up.

Today, a word from the author himself:

“I am one soldier in a great army of many, many thousands who have been enchanted and changed by the works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. When I first ventured into Middle Earth, the outcome of the battle between good and evil, between creation and destruction within my own soul was far from certain. In a very real way the eternal loyalties of my heart were forged in Narnia. It is therefore my sincerest prayer that you will find your journey into the Kingdom of Nearing Vast worthy, if only in some small measure, of so rich a heritage, and so complete a victory.”
George Bryan Polivka, author of Legend of the Firefish

I can get behind an author like this swordbrother. Amen?

This book was an awesome read! I'm glad to see so many pirate type fantasy books coming out. That's great since I am a huge fan of anything and everything pirates (but still POTC 3 still underwhelmed me). Can't wait to read Isle of Swords! Glad to hear that this author is also a fan of LOTR and Narnia. The two books that are also great influences to me and to many other people in love with the fantasy genre

Great quote! I haven't read the book either, but I hope to very soon. This tour is revving me up for it, that's for sure. :D

Ohho you guys are in for a treat! The Legend of the Firefish is one rip-roaring adventure that combines the best of something akin to Kidnapped or Treasure Island with Christian Fantasy! Bryan is a master storyteller and there are characters that you will meet in Nearing Vast and beyond that will stay as part of your imagination long after you close the book. The good news? "The Hand that Bears the Sword" is BETTER than "Legend of the Firefish." And the best news? *BOTH* are out now. :-D

Hey Pais Charos!

*huggle back*

Yes yes, read the Legend of the Firefish! I've sold roughly 6 off my 'favorites' this summer and am surprised that I haven't sold more. ;) Not for lack of trying though.

The Hand that Bears the Sword is better, *checks wallet* I'm broke, *stares at new Tales of Otori and Eclipse lying at the side of the bed* Man, I buy too many books, When I get the money this is going on my purchase list! heh!

I'm liking it, Scribe! Man ... the way Packer looks at Panna. I can't wait till someone looks at my that way one day.... *wistful sigh* But for now, I live it in these wonderful books :)

You know, Wayne. I find it highly ironic that the very day I had decided to start reading this book, is the same day you blog about it. How about that, eh?

It'll go on my 'to-read' list...
at this rate, I'm not going to finish reading everything on that list 'til I'm old and grey....
eh, so much the better! I won't run out of good books!

Pais Charos, that is ironic that you are reading it at the same time the CSFF Blog Tour is featuring it! Oh and Roheryn my "to read list" is prob. just as long as yours!

Unknown said...

My "to read" list is pretty long, too. Thankfully, not yet as long as my "have read" list. Although ... I haven't finished adding books onto my bookshelf on Facebook. Hehe.

Ah, I'm taking a break from fiction at the moment, having wolfed down fantasy every breathing moment this summer. Now, I'm spending quality time with John Ortberg and his book "When the Game is Over It All Goes Back in the Box". An amazing book!

ES, you have the next one?! *draws out sword* Okay, girl. Lay down the book and walk the plank...that's it, nice and easy.
