Have you ever played "Kill this Thread?" You say you're against all forms of killing? I SO agree…uh, except for this game. Uh, and except for when I find a spider on my bathroom floor. Okay, back on topic.
Kill this thread works like this:
1. Comment on this post.
2. Be the last person to post a comment before the thread "Dies."
How does the thread die? Easy, all that has to happen is for NO ONE to post a comment for one single day. Every time you post a comment, you prolong the thread's life 24 more hours and put yourself in the potential winner's seat!
So, say Biff posts a comment at 3pm today. If no one posts another comment by 3pm tomorrow, then Biff wins the prize. But, if Zelda posts a comment at 2:59pm tomorrow, BOOM, the thread lives on 24 more hours.
Now I've seen this done a number of ways, but one thing I hate is that the comments posted are too quick and very boring. So I'm adding one more REQUIREMENT:
3. Make your comment something meaningful. Give us one of your favorite quotes. Tell us why you like it. Give us something from God's word to munch on. Talk about your hopes and dreams. Encourage someone you care about. Talk about a new band you "discovered." Tell people why they should buy my books--you know, anything meaningful like that! :-D
Oh, and what's the prize? How about a PreRelease Advanced Reader Copy of Book 2 of the Berinfell Prophecies series: Venom and Song--autographed by BOTH authors (CH and Me!)
Sound good?
Post away! Kill this Thread!

«Oldest ‹Older 801 – 1000 of 1749 Newer› Newest»Just about my favorite books growing up was the Chronicles of Narnia. The adventures of the Pevensie children captivated my young imagination.
The first two Narnian movies have been just awesome, unfortunately The Voyage of the Dawn Treader won't becoming out until Christmas. And just about the only reason why I have never read The Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings is that my mom said I have to borrow them from the library. But unfortunately I still have been unable to be able to read them. Since I am still in the middle of homeschooling. Did any of you know that Tim Tebow was also homeschooled? My dad didn't expect Tebow to be drafted till the 5th or 6th rounds.
And I would like to know what was Wayne Thomas Batson's favorite book to write and why.
Ha ya'll. How is everything? Where did Veggiefreak go?
I'm rereading Cures of the Spider King again, this would make it the second time. I have also read The Door Within Trilogy and Pirate Adventures twice as well, and I'm thinking of reading them again. I can't what till I can get Donita K. Paul's Dragonlight, the last book to Dragon Keeper Chronicals, they are sooo good!
Well that's all I can post for now
Here's a quike scripture Luke 14:12
Be Blessed:)
Tuesday! Fave day, donch'a know...
Gillian; No idea. I didn't even know that Tolkien was considering someone else for Strider... I have the book Unfinished Tales, and I, too, wish he had actually finished them.
Oops... I'm afraid that WAS a rather vague question. Oh, and the answer is... Tom Bombadil! Haha. Hey, try to answer this one. It's the hardest question I could find, from the appendixes.
Where are ALL the Palantiri located at the end of LOTR? If you hunt around, you should find it.
Star-Dreamer; AWESOME!!!!!! I want to read your book soooo badly... Oh, would you mind turning your comment thingy to a pop-up window? That's the only way (with this messy computer) that I can comment. Sorry. :)
Anonymous Elizabeth; LOL! I love that quote.
Archer; I HAVE read This Present Darkness. It is AWESOME.
Gillian again; Amazing excerpt. Makes me want to read more! :)
Okay, back to Language Arts...
Monala; A big party in Europe. Unknown to everyone.
Patrick - Well met indeed! I totally recommend The Force Unleashed, since it's my all-time favorite Star Wars novel. But I also suggest you try "Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter," "The Cestus Deception," "Battle Surgeons & Jedi Healer" and "The Approaching Storm." (But I don't recommend "Crosscurrent" which is the latest Star Wars novel. It looked awesome from all the previews, but in reality, it's probably one of the worst, not to mention most violent, Star Wars novels I've ever read in my life!)
Lady DragonKeeper - I'm not as fond of the post-movie books, though I have enjoyed several of them. The first Star Wars movie I ever saw was Attack of the Clones, so I have more of a bond with the Clone Wars than the New Jedi Order.
Sorry.
Timothy Wallace - YES!!!!!! I HAVE SO TOTALLY READ ALL OF CHUCK BLACK'S BOOKS!!!! AND I'M DYING FOR THE LAST THREE TO COME OUT!!!!
Archer - I don't know what songs TFK will play at YC. It depends on how much stage time they gets, but I'm assuming they'll mostly play stuff from their new album "Welcome To The Masquerade" (and I've learned how to spell that word, thanks to TFK!!).
That said, has anyone else ever seen the "Angel Wars" DVDs? We own all four and, although the animation certainly isn't the best I've ever seen, nor do the plots make much sense, they're really cool just because they're angels!! I suggest you go check them out.
~Never Alone~
Here is one of my favorite poems by Langston Hughes.
The Negro Speaks of Rivers
I've known rivers:
I've known rivers ancient as the world and older than the flow of human blood in human veins.
My soul has grown deep like the rivers.
I bathed in the Euphrates when the dawns were young.
I built by hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.
I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.
I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln went down to New Orleans and I've seen its muddy bosom turn all golden in the sunset.
I've known rivers
Ancient, dusky rivers.
My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

How are you guys?
i'm listening to Jeff Allen, he is so funny, i am crying, so i'm sorry if this has spelling mistakes.
I think that Christian Comedians have a beautiful gift they can share Gods word with people and make them laugh.

What are y'all's views on adoption? (Thought this might be a conversation-starter...)
daughteroflight
My dad found Raising Dragons at the school where he works and it wasn't the schools so he brought it home for me!!! Also my school is having a book fair and we can order books from noodlebooks or something like that and I saw they had all of Bryan Davis's books!! They also had Mr. Batson's but I already have all of his:)
I LOVE BOOKS:):)
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
Ha
Eldra; Where is YC? And what state, country will they be in. I love there music and the power the words carry are so amazing. I have all of the Angel Wars' movies/episodes, they are cool. But I think they could be better.
Anonymous Daughteroflight; I think adoption is a good way for those who are being adopted, because they will be in a better inverment and people who love them most likly. It's also a wonderful way for a couple who can't have children, to get the chance to be parents. The paster in my churchs daughter and her husband are adopting a baby. I think it is a wonderful way people to have a family.
well, does anyone know where I can find some pepy Jazz? i like jazz, I just can;t find a cd that doesn't have any words. But some words would be fine.
Be Blessed :)
Daughter-of-flight, I think adoption is amazing! My littlest sister was adopted from China - she is such a wonderful part of our lives now. It is so amazing to me to imagine what her life would have been like over in China and what it is like now! I wish we could adopt again, and I know that I would love to adopt one day when I have a family of my own!
Yes the answer was Tom Bombadil. He is such a funny character - I think it would have been awesome if he'd been in the movies... although it would have slowed the pace down just a wee bit.
Jake: Haha, you should check out the History of Middle Earth series. There are about 12 volumes that basically let you read all of Tolkien's discarded ideas and versions of the Lord of the Rings. In the original version of the story, Strider's character was played by a hobbit named Trotter! Needless to say, this character was not originally going to be the heir to the throne of Gondor. I just thought that was hilarious! Oh, and Treebeard and all the ents were originally on Saruman's side. Haha, and Frodo's original name was Bingo.
Alright, the locations of all the palantiri. Well, I know I've read it before, but it's not coming to mind right now so I shall have to look it up.
There were seven palantiri:
The stones of Annuminas and Amon Sul were buried in the sea with Arvedui the last king of the Northern kingdom.
The Stone from the Tower on Emyn Beraid was placed by Cirdan on the ship by which Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf, Frodo and Bilbo left Middle Earth.
The Anor stone: remained in Gondor. It passed through the fire with Denethor and it was said that if anyone looked into the stone after that, “unless he had a great strength of will to turn it to other purpose, he saw only two aged hands withering in flame.”
The Orthanc stone – King Aragorn kept it to see what was passing in his realm.
The Osgiliath Stone: lost in the River Anduin during the kinslaying in Gondor ( a rebellion against King Eldacar)
The Ithil stone – captured by the black riders when Minas Ithil fell and became Minas Morgul. This was the stone used by Sauron, finally lost in the defeat of Mordor and the fall of Baradur.
Another LOTR trivia question - read the quote and then answer the question below.
"It might be so," Gandalf answered softly. "But our trial of strength is not yet come. And if words spoken of old be true, not by the hand of man shall he (the lord of the ringwraiths) fall, and hidden from the Wise is the doom that awaits him."
So, who was it that had prophesied those "words spoken of old" that the Lord of the Ringwraiths would not fall by the hand of man?
A song written by Michael Card with awesome lyrics. They've been running through my head for a while.
The Promise by Michael Card
"The Lord God said when time was full
He would shine His light in the darkness
He said a virgin would conceive
And give birth to the Promise
For a thousand years the dreamers dreamt
And hoped to see His love
The Promise showed their wildest dreams
had simply not been wild enough
But the Promise showed their wildest dreams
Had simply not been wild enough
Chorus
The Promise was love and the Promise was life
The Promise meant light to the world
Living proof Jehovah saves
For the name of the Promise was Jesus
The Faithful One saw time was full
And the ancient pledge was honored
So God the Son, the Incarnate One
His final Word, His own Son
Was born in Bethlehem
But came into our hearts to live
What more could God have given
Tell me what more did He have to give
What more could God have given
Tell me what more did He have to give
Repeat Chorus
At last the proof Jehovah saves
For the name of the Promise was Jesus"
I love the part about how their wildest dreams just weren't wild enough. I mean, the Jews were expecting a messiah who would save them from their oppressors here on earth - at the time of Jesus, the Romans. The Roman Empire under Caesar Augustus was extremely strong. It was certainly a wild dream to imagine that a leader could arise to free the Jews from Roman lordship - a wild dream, but certainly not impossible for God. But what God had planned was (from a human view) wilder still! That the Christ, the Messiah, should come, not to conquer and defeat the Romans, but to suffer and die to defeat sin and death itself, did not even enter their wildest dreams! But that just goes to prove that "their wildest dreams just weren't wild enough," for with God, all things are possible!
It's amazing isn't it?
Eldra: Thanks for the Star Wars novel recommendations; do you have a favorite character from the prequel trilogy or the original trilogy? Or a favorite scene or scenes from any of the movies? One of my favorites is the duel between Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan,and Maul in the Theed reactor! Combined with John Williams' 'Duel of the Fates' score, its phenomenal!
Jake: Do you have a favorite passage from Unfinished Tales? I love reading that book; I agree with you that it would have been fantastic had Tolkien finished long narratives of some of the stories, especially Tuor's.
Anonymous: Awesome poem!
I'll close for the moment with another C.S. Lewis quote:
"Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important."
I just noticed that on Mr. Batson's profile it says that he lives in Westfarthing, Hobbiton! lol:)
Jake hmmmm I know one is burned up with Denethor and one is in the sea and well Sauron had one so I guess its buried in Mordor. I can't think of where the others might be.
Will do a quote later..
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
Archer: I just finished reading Curse of the Spider King for the third time. Isle of Fire I am reading for the second time and all of Mr. Batson's other books I have read twice.
Eldra: I have all of Chuck Black's books except his most recent one (Lady Carliss and the Waters of Moorue). Which I have been dying to buy but my Mom won't allow it for a while longer at least until my chores are complete.
His next two are due to be out sometime next two are due out this October.
Yes I have heard of Angel Wars although I don't have any seen of them. I do have some Redemption cards from the series. Redemption is a Trading Card game with all the cards taken from scripture. My brother and I love to play each other. It was available at a lot of Christian bookstores around us then it kinda peaked downwards in popularity.
One of my favorite quotes from Abraham Lincoln is taken from his second Inauguaral Address
"Neither party expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it has already obtained.
Neither anticipated that the cause of the conflict might cease with, or even before, the conflict itself should cease. Each looked for an easier triumph, and a result less fundamental and astounding. Both read the same Bible and pray to the same God; and each invokes his aid against the other. It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces; but let us judge not, that we be not judged. The prayers of both could not be answered-that neither has been answered fully. The Almighty has His own purposes."
And just about the only way for this thread to die is for all but one of us to stop posting.
ugh! sometimes libaries drive me crazy! I put a hold request for a book a few weeks ago... I was at the library yesterday for a meeting, I check the hold shelf; no book... I get home, and have an e-mail that they have my book! AAAHHHH!!
anyhoo... fedoras!

Now for something meaningful.
Here is the first part of a speech that i did in english
Our greatest fear is not that we are inadiquit
Our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyone measure
It is our light, not our darkness that most frieghtens us
We ask ourselves, who am i to be brilliant, goregous, tallented, faboulous
Accually, who are you not to be.

Anonymous Elizabeth; Great Excerpt! I'd love to read more... I love books too! :) lol
Epic; What song is that from. I know it, but I forgot who it's by and what it's called.
Okay, those LOTR questions are still up... What are the exact locations of all the Palantiri at the end of LOTR?
Okay, gotta go and check some other blogs.
Funny joke:)
Two muffins were in the oven. One muffin said, "Wow! It's hot in here!" The other muffin said, "Woah! It's a talking muffin!" :)

(btw ppl the way I get to watch vt is by watching my little sister watch it) all u veggy freaks out there TELL VEGGYS GO MAKE MORE MOVIES!!!!! that you have to admit was random!!!!
Archer - YC (Youth Conference) is in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada May
28, 29 & 30. They also have other locations in several other places, but you'd have to check out their website or Facebook to find out where. Also, if you like jazz, check out Jesse Cook. He doesn't do traditional jazz (more like a Latin/salsa/flamenco mix). Some of his songs have words, but most don't. My parents have been to see him several times already and are planning to see him again soon. I also recommend Peter Knight.
Patrick - I love that scene too!! Duel of the Fates is my second favorite Star Wars song ever, right after Battle of the Heroes. As for my favorite scene. . . wow. I'd have to say any of the lightsaber fights, though I also really like the whole scene between Vader, Luke and Sidious at the end of Episode VI. And my favorite character. . . again, wow. From the movies, I'd have to say that my favorite character is Anakin. But my favorite EU (Expanded Universe) character would have to be Ferus Olin (from The Last Of The Jedi series).
Timothy Wallace - Yeah, Angel Wars seems to have died. Their website hasn't been updated in months. I'd really like it if they kept us posted on what's going on. Also, I'd love to see more behind the scenes stuff, especially the voice actors recording their lines (always my favorite part in the special features).
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ANY ONE ELSE WHO'S BIRTHDAY IS ON APRIL 28!!!!!

Gillian: was it Glorfindel the elf that prophesied against the Lord of the Nazgul? Do you have a favorite book from among the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and History of Middle-Earth?
Here's a fragment of verse Gandalf was musing on as he and Pippin rode to Gondor in Two Towers:
"Tall ships and tall kings
Three times three, What brought they from the foundered land
Over the flowing sea?
Seven stars and seven stones and one white tree."
Hello everyone and Goodnight!
In the words of Pippin from the Fellowship of the Ring, "and NOW to bed! and NOW to bed!" I know that has been posted before, but I could not resist! Bed sounds extremely good right now for "I must away ere break of day" but unfortunately not to seek any enchanted gold! :)
Y'all are welcome to check out my new blogpost "A Call to Love" at my blog: ofbattlesdragonsandswordsofadamant.blogspot.com
Some ideas have been running around in my head for a while, and I finally got them out on paper... or on the computer rather!
Here's an awesome verse that tied into my blog post:“Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “do not steal,” “do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” (Romans 13:8-10)
So, Mr. Batson, I've never done a kill the thread game before, so I was wondering whether you had anticipated such a large response to your post. Were you expecting this many comments? :)
This is a late comment, but since someone was asking about Star Wars books, I thought I'd share some of my favorites. In general, the "juvenile fiction" series are "safe" . . . as I mentioned before, I like the Solo children and such, so the "Young Jedi Knights" series is one of my favorites, but the writing isn't the best thing in the world . . . a series set after "Revenge of the Sith" called "Last of the Jedi." It has (for the most part) a pretty good storyline for a SW kids series. I couldn't get into the "Jedi Apprentice" (Obi-Wan) or "JediQuest" (Anakin Skywalker) series for some reason, but they might appeal to you. From what I can remember, any of the books by Timothy Zahn are good . . . certain authors' books have moments that I think weren't needed . . . but it's an "unwritten rule of SW books" that violence, language, romance, etc. is not more that what is portrayed in the movies, so that's a roughly accurate measure . . . I'd recommend that you read a trilogy/duology/series (especially if you read the "New Jedi Order" series and everything that comes after that) in order if possible, there are a lot of "Star Wars book timelines" online, so just look there for a list, or most of the books published after 2000 have a timeline on one of their first pages, but those will only be accurate up to the point they were published (e.g. there will be more books that what a SW book timeline from 2004 shows) but other than that, it's fine to go "in and out" of time periods --before the "Prequels" I, II, II. After the "Original" IV, V, VI. During or in between movies, etc. :D
OH Gilllian!! I know the answer to the word of old!!! But I can't remember who spoke them:) And I LOVE that Michael Card song!!!! oh and thanks for knowing where all the palantir are because I totally forgot. I got three though!!
I can't think of hard enough questions for LOTR quiz.....
Jake: I' will post more of my short story!
OH MY! The Word verification! FABLE!!! LOL A tale that is fake but still fun to listen to!:)

Never Alone!!
“Elia?” a voice whispered.
A cry emanated from her lips, and she bounded forward with joy. “Taimon! I thought for sure you were slain!”
A tall elf entered the clearing. His eyes were of the clearest blue, and when he hugged Elia, they sparkled. He had gashes and bruises in many places and his dark brown hair was disheveled. “I am not that easy to overcome. I fought my captors, but didn’t manage to free Gilnard, I am sorry.” He bowed his head. Elia caressed his cheek and her violet eyes looked deep into his.
“You did the best you could. When I saw the arrow…,” her voice became a whisper, “I feared the worst.”
Taimon looked down at his wife. “We still need to get Gilnard away from the king’s clutches. If not…,” he paused unable to go on.
“Our home will be ravaged and the king will take complete control.” Elia rummaged around in a bag she carried on her hip. She pulled out a small flagon of some honey colored liquid. “Drink this, it will replenish your strength.” Then she tore some strips of cloth from her own dress and washed some of his bigger wounds and bound them. The couple walked out of the clearing, silent as a deer, and resumed their search.
As the dawn peaked up from behind the foothills, Taimon put his head to the ground. “They are not even a league ahead of us. But another force has joined them. We will need more warriors.” Taimon put an intricately designed hunting horn to his lips and blew. The sound was rich and deep and resonated throughout the mist-covered forest. Within minutes, dozens of Elven warriors had joined them.
The band pursued the soldiers out of the forest and to the edge of the mountain. By this time the sun had fully risen and it was past noon. The soldiers were half way across the plain leading the mountain when the elves glided out of the trees. Taimon ordered the elves to draw their bows and fire. Elia fitted an arrow to her curved cherry wood bow. She pulled back expertly and released the arrow. It found it’s mark, and a soldier in the rearguard fell forward with her arrow embedded in his back.
There you go! I hope you like it. I wrote it for my sister and it's going to be published in my school's anthology!
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
The enemy was by then aware of the pursuers and returned fire. Taimon gave the command to pursue the soldiers and the elves drew their swords.
“Elia! Find Gilnard!” Taimon drew his sword and rushed into the fray. Elia nodded. She found him tethered between twelve men. She gasped, as she did every time she saw this magnificent animal. Gilnard was a green dragon, the purest dark green, like an evergreen tree. His coat seemed to shimmer every time he moved. He turned his reptilian eye on Elia and roared. But Elia wasn’t shaken, she had raised Gilnard from an egg and tried to save him from the king’s clutches. She rushed forward and parried a guard, shoving him into the dirt facedown. She blocked another guard’s blade and brought her sword crashing down on his helm, which split asunder. She took the next two guards out with a thrust in the stomach. Gilnard was mostly free then and took four guards out with a mighty sweep of his claw. He took another between his jaws. Elia blocked and parried with the other three. She was having a hard time blocking all their moves. One guard gained an advantage and managed to slice his sword through her leg armor, opening a gash. Elia screamed and drove her sword through his chest. Then she backpedaled and brought her sword down one the other guard’s neck. Gilnard took care of the last guard.
“Hello,” Elia breathed, running her hand over his scales. Gilnard snorted and sparks flew out of his nostrils.
From somewhere in the battle Elia heard Taimon yell, “The king! He’s here!” Elia looked at Gilnard who cocked his head.
“Come on,” She climbed onto his back. “We need to finish this once and for all and Taimon can’t do it all on his own!” Gilnard needed no urging and with a mighty flap of his wings, was off.
They found Taimon and a band of warriors in the middle of the battle. The king was battling Taimon and three other elves, but the king clearly had the advantage. He was an expert swordsman and wielded his broadsword with deadly accuracy. He cut down one of the elves he had been battling. Gilnard spiraled down and opened his massive jaws. The king saw them coming and swung his sword for the dragon’s neck. Elia heard it crunch and saw dark red blood spatter on the knights below. But the scales were tough and the sword only grazed the neck. Gilnard lifted off for another try.
The world suddenly came in slow motion to Elia. As Gilnard lifted off, the King parried the two other elves and killed them. He went at Taimon with malice. Taimon saw him coming and blocked, but he wasn’t fast enough. The broadsword cleaved a huge gash in his side, spattering the ground with more blood. Taimon fell to the ground and the king made ready for the final blow. Gilnard was too fast for the king though and knocked him off his feet, as a kitten knocks a ball of yarn. Elia was jolted off of Gilnard’s back and went flying, landing right next to Taimon. The king tried to run but Gilnard’s talon was too fast and rent his back in two. He then finished off the other soldiers.
“Taimon!” Elia tried to staunch his wound.
“Elia, Gilnard was magnificent. I..”
“Don’t talk. You’re loosing too much blood.”
Gilnard came over and his tongue rippled out and licked Taimon’s wound. It immediately sealed, and the skin looked like it had never been broken. Elia gasped. “Oh Gilnard! Thank you!”
Gilnard went around to the other elves and licked their wounds and then came back to Elia.
“We did it” Taimon whispered as he hugged his wife.
“Yes,” Elia smiled. “Yes.”

Eldra; Thank-you for the names, for the jazz. I don't think I'll be able to make it to the concert in Canada, because I live in south east America. It took my family six hours just to get to Marland for confrence. I hope you have fun!:)
Anonymous Elizabeth; Great chapter!:) I can't wait for the rest.
Mr. Batson, I have a question, in my book, there is a scene where my main character is reading a book, and it's geting to her favorite part. Can I or would it be okay if I mention King Eliem, the travelers, and them turning down Paragors offer in that scene? If not that's fine I can change it. But it would be great if I didn't have to.
here is a scripture; Mark 1:12
Be Blessed:)
Elizabeth: Ooh, that's awesome! Published in the school's anthology, eh? Way to go!
Patrick: Hmm, a favorite... no not really! I like them all too much so my favorite is generally whichever one I happen to be reading at the moment!
I love all the stories in the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales! I like the story of Turin Turamabar - though sometimes it seems to read like one of Shakespeare's tragedies! lol. And the lay of Beren and Luthien, and well, the list could go on forever!
But I wish Tolkien had written more about Tuor, and I do wish there were more stories about the Dunedain after the end of the Northern kingdom, because I think the Dunedain are so awesome!
What about you? Do you have a favorite?
Here's an excerpt from the tale of Beren and Luthien in the Silmarillion about the contest between Sauron and King Finrod Felagund of Nargothrond. It has the awesomest epic poem.
"Thus befell the contest of Sauron and Felagund which is renowned. For Felagund strove with Sauron in songs of power, and the power of the King was very great; but Sauron had the mastery, as is told in the Lay of Leithian:
He chanted a song of wizardry,
Of piercing, opening, of treachery,
Revealing, uncovering, betraying.
Then sudden Felagund there swaying
Sang in answer a song of staying,
Resisting, battling against power,
Of secrets kept, strength like a tower,
And trust unbroken, freedom, escape;
Of changing and of shifting shape,
Of snares eluded, broken traps,
The prison opening, the chain that snaps.
Backwards and forwards swayed their song.
Reeling and foundering, as ever more strong
The chanting swelled, Felagund fought,
And all the magic and might he brought
Of Elvenesse into his words.
Softly in the gloom they heard the birds
Singing afar in Nargothrond,
The sighing of the Sea beyond,
Beyond the western world, on sand,
On sand of pearls in Elvenland.
Then the gloom gathered; darkness growing
In Valinor, the red blood flowing
Beside the Sea, where the Noldor slew
The Foamriders, and stealing drew
Their white ships with their white sails
From lamplit havens. The wind wails,
The wolf howls. The ravens flee.
The ice mutters in the mouths of the Sea.
The captives sad in Angband mourn. Thunder rumbles, the fires burn -
And Finrod fell before the throne."
Oh and yes, Patrick, you were right - it was Glorfindel! I always liked Glorfindel in the books and was so disappointed that they gave his part to Arwen in the movies (meeting the travelers and helping them to Rivendell). And I don't even like the Arwen they have in the movie! It bugs me that Aragorn spends so much screen time dreaming about her that they were forced to cut out important parts of the storyline!
So here's another LOTR question: When EXACTLY did the White Tree (the one that was in Gondor at the time of the Return of the King)die?
Well, I have to run now!
Here is one of my favorite quotes from C. S. Lewis, silencing all the skeptics of Jesus' divinity. At least those who say "he was just a man, or just a great teacher.
"That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic-on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg-or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse."
The Star Wars: The Clone Wars season finale looks pretty cool. I saw it while babysitting some neighborhood kids earlier today.
Blast it all!!! I can't watch it because my family can't afford cable.
I probably will watch it eventually either with a friend of mine who is a Star Wars freak or online sometime.
The Lord of the Ring movies were pretty cool when I saw them several years ago.
Please o' Please, let me be the one to kill the thread. Speaking of which how are we supposed to know when we have won?
I have an extra special surprise... TWO LOTR questions! Okay,
1) What happened to Frodo's parents, and where did it happen?
2) What were the exact words on Balin's grave?
Both are pretty easy, I think, so it shouldn't be too hard.
Gillian; Good job! The Palantiri always fascinated me to no end. I thought it was rather sad that most of them were gone... And for your own question;
Um, without looking, I'll have to say Elrond. But that is a very tenative answer.
Patrick; Not really. A fact I found rather interesting is that one of Tolkien's unfinished tales was one of 'time travel', originally from a sort of agreement between Lewis and him. Lewis was to write a book about 'space travel', while Tolkien wrote a book on 'time travel'. Lewis's book, however, was finished and published; 'Out of the Silent Planet'. I LOVE that book! It's totally original... Even if it is a bit improbable (to say the least) in modern day. Wow, that got long quick.
Anonymous Elizabeth; Good guess. Check out Gillian's post for the right answers on the LOTR question. Oh, and GREAT EXCERPT!! Sounds awesome.
Matthew; The same thing happened to me. Add that to the fact that they NEVER get new books (much less Christian Spec. Fiction!) and I really don't like the library sometimes. :)
Eldra; Did you say your birthday is on April 28??? 'Cause that's my littlest sister's birthday!! Crazy.
Gillian again; STOP POSTING SUCH MEANINGFUL STUFF!!!! Anyway, I LOVE your blog, BTW. Only I can't comment unless it's a pop up window, sorry. Dumb computer...
Dialest; A person who calls a LOT of people... Namely, my Mom. :)
Anonymous Elizabeth - Wow!!! That's amazing!! I so wish I could write short stories. Unfortunately, my short stories get out of control and end up being long, long stories. *sigh*
Lady DragonKeeper - Personally, I really enjoyed everything by Jude Watson, including Jedi Adventures, Jedi Quest and The Last Of The Jedi, as well as her other two Star Wars mini-novels.
~Never Alone~
Still waiting to hear back about how auditions went. . . . I'm getting more and more anxious as Saturday arrives! Since that was when he (the director) said we would hear by at the latest.
Well, here's my quote for the day:
"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." –J.R.R Tolkien
~ElizabethMarieKauffman~
I'll try Jack, but I'm honestly not sure how to make it do that... guess I'll just have to play around with it a bit, huh?
I'll come back and post something more meaningful in a little bit... have to run before I'm late to a class!
well ppl, scence everyone elts is posting there writing I'll do the same AND LEAVE U ON A CLIFF MUAHAHAHAH
Fire seemed to glisten in the night and screams haunted the streets of the once great city of Alexandria. The soldiers braced the gate against the massive battering ram of the Muslim horde. Arrows seemed to fall from the night sky as warriors as well as civilians went down under the onslaught. Near the library going almost unnoticed were dark robed monks packing scrolls and works of art into wagons as the fire began to creep toward the library. The leader, Oramin, mentally, dedicated to the safety of the library, scurried to save the east wing. But there was still the west wing! Orimin gritted his teeth and knew it was time to go. Just as he gave the order the west wing burst into flames. Almost immediately the Muslims broke into the city and began to kill without mercy. Orimin jumped onto the cart followed by all the other monks and they all threw there horses into a gallop towards the wharf. The horses began to panic as the screams and fire began to get into their heads and in two carts the driver lost control of the beasts and began to wildly crash into everything exciting the horses all the more. But finally the stone road turned into the wood of the dock. The monks that had been left to guard the waiting ships immediately got to work unloading the priceless scrolls into the ship’s hull. Finally the all the ships were loaded and ready to go. As they cast off from the dock a mixture of fire, ringing of medal and the cry help began to dwindle and oramin had a moment to think and he realized that the cargo of these ships had to be kept secret and only a select few should ever know, because if they were found? He didn’t want to think of that.
to be continued
OK so I thought I would post my favorite verses;
James 4:7-8 (New International Version)
7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
I learned these verses when I was little and have tried to live by them since.

The perfect ring of OOooo's!! I love it!
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
anyways, you can tell I"m bored. I guess the best news is that I get to write down one of my own dreams for my psyc teacher XD and then I have to interpret it...it's going to be so much fun b/c I have so many dreams that are about Jesus and stuff. This is going to be way cool. Talk about ministry! XD
Squeaks (yes, that was a thought of a moment)
Alright, I switched the comments to a pop up window... I wonder why it wasn't working for you before, jack... *is thinking* oh well.
Gillian, I loved your excerpt! Very nice dialogue... it worked well. And I have to say right now, I absolutely love your name choices! I love figuring out names like that for my characters.
Annonymous, your descriptions are very beautiful. Nice work! :)
Well, I think I've probably procrastinated enough; I'm going to go work on Song of the Daystar now because... well, because I just need to get it done. C U ALL! :)
Has anyone heard the song 'Avalanche' by Manifest? It is amazingly awesome... For those who like Christian rock and awesome guitar solos with distortion.
Nathanael Beekman; Good excerpt! Is is historical fiction or sci fi?
Star-Dreamer; Thanks!! That helps... I've been wanting to comment for FOREVER... BTW your book is amazing. Yes, I'm repeating myself. Get it published.
Hey, I have a poll over at my blog about what to post on next, and I have a bunch of awesome stuff lined up, so if you can, please check my blog! Just click on my name, and it'll go straight to my blog.
Mancelin; A variation of the 'minulet'. :D
first of all this thing rlly will last forever!!!!!! second i think people are saying MEANINGLESS THINGS!! (im very out spoken!) so i will set an example and to somthing meaning full!!!
Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.
Mother Teresa
I know that this may seem like a prety wrd quote 4 me to chose but im saying that we as christans are neglectig to show the world our love!! that is one of the things that Jesus said will make us diffrent from the world and we are not doing it!! it can be as simple as a smile!!!! WE NEED TO SHOW THE WORLD OUR LOVE!!!period exclimation!
Ha ya'll,
while I was checking out a few cds, I came across a few celtic cds: Windham Hill Classics: Celtic Legacy and Music Of Ireland Welcome Home.
Eldra; here are a few cds, Casting Crowns, Tobymac, Kevin Max, and The W's.
Has anyone read Admission by Travis Thrasher? It's a Christian mystery writer. Is it any good?
Nathanel Beekman; GREAT EXCPERT!! I loved it. Keep writing.
Jake; I know the answer to the second question, but just out of reach. Don't you just not like it when that happens.
THE REWRITE OF SONG OF THE DAYSTAR IS NOW FINISHED!
That's right, and I'm so excited! When I sat down this afternoon, I had no idea I'd actually finish it, but I did. Now I can start querying.
This has just got to be one of the best days of my life! *dances around in circles for absolute joy*
More to come tomorrow, at the moment just another short quote:
"Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ"
- St. Jerome
More late comments:
@ Eldra - Ferus Olin is my favorite "Prequel Era" character! I liked him more than Anakin Skywalker in the "JediQuest" series (even though Anakin was the main character) and when he finally got his own storyline in "Last of the Jedi," I was hooked. : )Barriss Offee is a close second . . . I actually like the tv Clone Wars version of Anakin though . . . its sort of weird to think that "animated Anakin" and "movie Anakin" are the same, I mean, I know they are, but . . . I don't know.
I know what you mean about the movies . . . I always caught the end or parts of the "Original" movies and "Attack of the Clones" was the first SW movie I saw in full, but I still prefer the books from after all the movies for some reason . . . they're all pretty cool though. : D My sister loves Siri Tachi, so she hated the Clone Wars episodes with the Mandalorian Dutchess Satine . . . making it seem like Obi-Wan liked her (and no mention of Siri)! LOL
I LOVE Angel Wars! One of my favorite Christian DVD series (tied with VeggieTales, LOL). Kira's my favorite . . . The fourth DVD/episode was different, but I was just glad to have new stories after 2+ years of nothing . . .
Archer - About your question to Wayne Thomas Batson. I don't know about the legality of everything, but even if you got the author's okay . . . there might be an issue with the publisher (Thomas Nelson co., in this case) . . . just a heads up, but don't quote me on that, and of course, that would only be an issue if you got published . . . seeing the work going on here, I've got to reiterate the words I've mention before --I wouldn't be surprised if these excerpts are a part of some "soon-to-be-published-in-full" books someday. : )
I was very surprised that I could write a short story! But I just kinda got this idea (I was actually reading Eldest or Brisignr at the time;) and it just kind of got into a story! Thanks everyone!
Gosh! Everyone now I feel bad that I haven't read the Unfinished Tales *mentaly puts it on book list to read*
Gillian: The White tree died after the last king (I don't remember his name) left to fight the Witch King. He was from Isildur's brother's line (again the name escapes me:)
Jake: Fordo's parents drowned in the Brandywine river I believe. I think the words were "Here lies Balin son of Fundon (uuum I don't remember that name either! So i think it was something like this) May he rest in peace" ? I don't exactly remember.......
Gosh! I now need to read FotR and I only read it twice last year you'd think I'd remember more!
ok as I was thinking up a fight scene yesterday I came up with an awesome quote. The girl had just won the battle and the general comes up and says, "Wow you're extrodinary." The girl replies
"No I am ordinary. God is extrodinary."
Oh and i would like to apoligize. Sometimes I spell words wrong and it's because at the time I can't figure out how to spell it. Sometimes my mind just goes blank...like it was one the names....and sorry about that.
WV: plasess (PLAY-ces) places spelled wrong;)
Elizabeth:)

"The greatest test of whether the holiness we profess to seek or to attain is truth and life
will be whether it produces an increasing humility in us. In man, humility is the one
thing needed to allow God’s holiness to dwell in him and shine through him.
The chief mark of counterfeit holiness is lack of humility. The holiest will be the humblest."

. . . My posts are getting pretty short. :\ Wow.
~ElizabethMarieKauffman~
Good morning all! So, it does seem to me that the comments are slowing down somewhat. Hopefully this doesn't go on for too many weeks longer or I shall be out of the contest since I will be no where near internet the whole summer during the week!
Jake: Frodo’s parents were Drogo and oh, for the life of me I can’t remember his mother’s name – at any other time I could tell you… but apparently not now! Frodo’s father and mother drowned while boating on the Brandywine River. Oh alright I give in – it’s driving me crazy – I can’t remember his mother’s name so I have to look it up. There! It’s Primula Brandybuck! Poor girl… what a dreadful first name! :)
And for the other question, the exact words on Balin’s grave (I did not look this up): “Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria.” (Written in the languages of elves, and dwarves, and men!)
Oh, and I’ve enabled pop up commenting on my blog – I didn’t know you could do that until just now! Lol
Elizabeth Marie Kauffman – Oh, I know that feeling! Waiting to hear back about your audition is not very fun! I hope you get the part you wanted! I love acting as well – right now, though, I’m directing a play for some kids from church. But I miss acting myself!
Ephesians 5:8-9 "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.)"
Live as children of light and not as children of darkness! Since we are light, why do we want to look like the children of darkness? Why do we want to imitate them so that we fit in? The Bible tells us we are to be as different from them as light is from darkness; and it is a fact that light always stands out in the darkness! So, when we live as Christ wants us to live, we will stand out like a sore thumb, like light in darkness, like a city on a hill! Here in America perhaps we will be mocked and made fun of when we stand out as different, but in other places of the world, Christians are daily dying and being persecuted and punished and tortured for their professed faith in God! So, since they are not afraid to back their faith with their lives, we should not be afraid to live like light in a dark world!
Has officially decided she is not an artist. Only an author at heart:)
Hey Mr. Batson, When is your new book (oh whats it called....) Sword in the Stars? coming out????? I can't WAIT!!!
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
MY opinion on adoption is for the most part positive. It is lawful (some of the time necessary) for everyone except homosexuals(those who are gays or lesbians). Why? because these lifestyles are not only sinful it also messes up the child's understanding of a home when they adopt a child. Two "dads" or two "moms" can't fulfill the child's need for one Mom and one Dad.
I found this quote in one of my bible's footnotes.
"a Christian author once said to his atheistic friend. If I am wrong in my beliefs we both lose when we die, but if I am right then when we die I gain everything and you lose everything."
better get of the computer before my mom grounds me permanently from the computer =).
Ha ya'll
Ladydragonkeeper; Thank-you for that information, but thinking about it now. I think I'll just say "this is her favorite part, the part where the main character choose the one true King over the lie of the enemy". I don't think that that implies that it is Mr. Batson's book. What do you think?
Well that's all I can post for now.
Be Blessed:)
distime for somthing MEANINGFUL!!! OK
Genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration. Accordingly, a 'genius' is often merely a talented person who has done all of his or her homework."
edison
that quote is prety self explanitory
Eccl. 12:13
"Now all has been heard. Here is the conclusion of the matter. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man."
Just sent out my first query... to AMG. I've been working on it forever (long before the story was finished) so it was ready to send out as soon as Song of the Daystar was done.
*closes eyes and crosses fingers*
Pray for me, guys... I've never done this before! But I'm so excited!
Hey guys im a new blogger...would like to think that i'm a decent writer, but dont seem to have a ton of success. DRIVES ME NUTS!! I pretty have everything in a quite large story in my head...unfortunately its tough for me to put in on paper and my dialogues seem awkward to me. Maybe im overcritical...but it just doesnt flow.
Anyway on a different not have you all read the two series:
Oracles of Fire/Dragons in our Midst by bryan davis
and The Binding of the blade series by LB Graham
Anyway there are some great books for whoever was lacking literature:)
Gillian–Thank you!! I should hear back either today or tomorrow, so, as you can imagine, I'm getting pretty jumpy whenever I hear anything that sounds like the phone is ringing! Directing little kids sounds like it would be a lot of fun. :) Little kids are SO adorable when acting!!! What play are you doing with them??
My "words of wisdom" for the day. . . er, um. . . evening, since I already posted a quote this morning:
"Ef blindr lei∂r blindan fallr ba∂r í grifju." Translation-"If a blind (one) leads a blind (one) both fall into a pit." :)
~ElizabethMarieKauffman~
Yes, when Mr.Batson? Is anyone doing National Novel Writing Month this year? Or the Young Writer's Program?
FRIDAY!!! Yes!
Everybody say hi to Moby, my Golden Retriever, he's sitting here and forcing me to pet him... :) Anyone else have a dog who does this ALL THE TIME?
Star-Dreamer; Yipee! Good for you! Now, get it published so I can read it... :D
Anonymous Elizabeth; Brisingr and the rest of those books are awesome! You got the question on Frodo's parents right, but the other question isn't quite right.
Gillian; Right again... *sigh*. Do I know anything by memory about LOTR that you DON'T know?? lol. Thanks for enabling pop-up comments!!
Anonymous Elizabeth again; WTB's coming out with a new book besides Berinfell Prophecies?!?!? When?! Where?!? What's it called!??!? Why doesn't anyone tell me these things!?!?!?!
Verau; Something Frenchie, I think... Sounds French.
Eldra are you going to YC Alberta, if you are i will so see you there. i am pumbed for it.
Archer the YC i am going to is in Alberta, Canada. it is where a bunch of christians bands get together and it's all around worsip and conserts. it is at the end of may
ok Star Dreamer, now we need to hear it:)
Gillian, You are too good at LOTR questions!!!! Well now I am going to ask you and Jake (and anyone else who wants to answer:) some questions cause finally thought of some. They may not be too hard but.....
What did Arwen give to Frodo in Return of King?
Name each of the gifts that Galadriel gave the company.
There!!
WV: trynock (TRY-nock) what Mallik tells Nock when Nock is trying to do something:) Had to put this verfication in here!!!:):) I love Nock and Mallik!!
Elizabeth:)

Thought of the day:
Have any of you ever thought how Hope is so often linked to disapointments? We are always told not to get our hopes up of we'll be disapointed. But what would happen if we were all afraid to hope?
Even when we give up on hope, Hope will never give up on us. What a great thing to know!

I decided I would post a bit of my book I am working on. Here it goes:
~Prologue~
"Run!" Tess cries to me as the Snake Men rode through the city. As horses galloped pass me, I prayed I wouldn't get trampled by the big beasts. I had no desire to feel hooves dig into my back. I started running faster for I heard one of the Snake Men come right up behind me. He raised his sword. I saw it gleaming in the sun light as it started to descend upon me. Waiting to feel the metal cut through me was torture. I never felt it. I heard metal on metal and turned to see Aaron holding up a sword to block that of the Snake Man's. Aaron fought to keep the sword from crushing down on him, but it was obvious that he could not hold out long. I stepped back. "Go!" Aaron yelled at me. I fled. As I did, I saw out of the corner of my eye the destruction King Thore's men had made. The tears came faster down my cheeks. All around me houses burned, dead bodies lay, people screamed. Cries for mercy were cut short. I refused to dwell on the reason. I turned just for a moment and what I saw made me scream. "Aaron!" I cried as I watched him fall to the ground. I tried to go back, but all of a sudden something hard hit my head and all went black.
"Wake up!" A commanding voice said, so loud that my head ached even more. I sat up, trying to remember where I was and what had happened. It all came back in a rush. I remembered the Snake Men, the screams, everything. I started to cry at the horror of the memory, and received a harsh slap. " Stop that blubbering," the man said, glowering down at me. After hitting me, the man pulled me into a cell, then left. I looked around me. The cell was dark and cold, with an earthen floor and brick walls. Other prisoners sat on the floor, cold and dirty, holding their wide eyed and traumatized children.
I quickly closed my eyes to the sight and prayed to God that my family be alright and that, if it was His will, we would see each other again. I raised my bowed head, my eyes meeting those of a woman. In those eyes were sorrow and grief. She asked me, " How can you pray to Him when He could have prevented it all?" I was surprised by her question but answered, "Have faith, everything happens for a reason. His reason."
The woman just shook her head and turned away.
"If our luck holds out, we can start moving towards the capital," said Sir Cooper. He was second in command to King Thore. "Out of the 10,000 men you sent out to take the city of Athya, 9,000 have returned, with a total of 1,000 prisoners. Most of the people were killed when our men attacked. The army you are gathering is becoming larger. When we head for the capital, I have complete faith we will conquer. In a few months you will be the king of two kingdoms and in complete control."
King Thore smiled. Everything was going as planned.
By the way, I have read a lot of really cool parts of books on here. Great job everyone:)
Wow! Life is so busy! Just one of those days...
Mr. Batson, I'm so excited about Sword in the Stars! It sounds so great!
Eldra, yes, I have seen Angel Wars! My little brother loves them! And... well, I might like to watch them, too... =D
Gillian, I'm so checking out that book on LOTR! It sounds so good!
Ooops - It's midnight almost! Love you guys
Anonymous Elizabeth - yes, it died after the last king left to fight the witch king. But it was actually some years after that. Does anyone know when exactly the White Tree of Gondor (the one that is there during the Return of the King) died?
Star Dreamer: Yay! That's so exciting that you finished the rewrite! Rewriting is not my favorite task... but it is so rewarding when you finally finish, isn't it? Well, at least I'm hoping it is, because I haven't finished yet! ;)
Well, I have an awesome praise and answer to prayer. I've been directing a play for the past month and a half for 20 kids from my church, and we performed it this afternoon on our front yard. Today's forecast was for rain and wind early afternoon... but we had only two minutes of rain this morning and no wind at all this afternoon! Such an answer to prayer! It was amazing. It seems like such a small thing, but it is the small things that remind us that God truly does care for us - the Father likes to give good things to His children! So, thank you Lord!
The play went really well. I was so proud of all my actors! They did amazing!
Well, I have an early morning tomorrow, so I am off to bed! Hopefully I'll be able to post again tomorrow.
Star Dreamer: Awesome about "Daystar"!
Jake: Yes, the agreement between Lewis and Tolkien was a quite interesting fact. Agreed: Out of the Silent Planet is really unique among science fiction stories; I love how Lewis drew inspiration from the medieval views of the universe; although they weren't scientifically accurate, they seem to invoke the imagination more. Wasn't Tolkien's time-travel lost tale called "The Lost Road"; I think he was going to tie it in with Numenor and the West. It would have been amazing had he finished it!
Gillian: I agree, it's hard to pick between Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, since they both illuminate the other. Turin's tale is indeed fraught with tragedy; I love how masterfully Tolkien wove the narrative of Turin's tale, seamlessly progressing from one stage of the story to the next. I love when it describes his armor when he fights on the northern marches of Elven kingdom of Doriath, mentioning the "Dragonhelm" and I believe it was a black sword and how he struck fear into the hearts of Morgoth's servants.
I concur on both of your wishes; I would especially love to have read more about Tuor in general, and a lot about the Fall of Gondolin. The fragment in Unfinished Tales when Ulmo appears to Tuor is awesome! Likewise, what you said about the Dunedain. It would be great to learn about their deeds after the Northern Kingdom fell. Their description as "The Grey Company" is very powerful as well as it captures a bit of the sorrow and grimness they must feel, being the remnant of the Northern kingdom. I wish they had been included in some way in the ROTK movie, although I know with movie adaptioning, especially with Lord of the Rings, it's hard to include eveything! lol Who would you say is your favorite character from "Lord of the Rings" and do you have one from the "Silmarillion" era?
Jolayne: here are a fe book recommendations you asked about. For fantasy, the books by Stephen Lawhead are superb: he has a knack for telling a powerful story fused with fantasy, vibrant description, and excellent historical depth. I'm currently in the middle of two of his trilogies, the Song of Albion trilogy which is rooted deep in Celtic lore, and his brilliant re-imagining of the Robin Hood legend in the King Raven trilogy: Hood, Scarlet, and Tuck. Soon I'm hoping to read Christopher Hopper's White Lion Chronicles also.
I love this quote by Stonewall Jackson:
"You may be whatever you will resolve to be"
Eldra: Battle of the Heroes and Duel of the Fates are my top two favorite Star Wars tracks as well; I also love Vader's theme, "Across the Stars", "The Throne Room", and off course, the Main Title! Agreed; all of the lightsaber duels are awesome! The one with Sidious, Anakin/Vader, and Luke is fantastic because of the intense emotion and how it shows Anakin's redemption and return to the Light side. As for my favorite character...hmmmm...in the prequel trilogy, probably the three great Jedi masters are on my top list: Yoda, Mace Windu, and Obi-Wan. Another favorite character is R2-D2! I'll need to look up "The Last of the Jedi" series; the fact that a handful of jedi survived has always intrigued me. In addition to the lightsaber duels, what are some of your other favorite scenes from either the movies or any of the Star Wars novels?
Does anyone on here listen to Adventures in Odyssey? For those of you that don't, it is a great Christian radio series that has been going on for 23 years. It is very good.
Morning everyone!!! I'm excited cause my online school is having a dance where I actually get to meet all my friends that I have never seen!!!! It's tonight:)
hhhmmm quote........I think it will come from LOTR
Frodo: I think an servant of the enemy would feel fouler and look fairer if you take my meaning.
Who's he talking about:) It's pretty easy but I still thought I'd ask:)
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
Wow, i really need to catch up. When i said that i was busy that was an understatement. So how is everybody this fine saturday? I have missed so much, but i can do nothing to change my crazy schedual. i have piano, drums, school, an hour bus ride, BOTH WAYS, i am helping out with a musical for the elementary school, i am on src and student forum. i also have a duet to practise with my friend, so i am at her house every monday and my mom isn't home this weekend so we are planning her 40th birthday
I've got to go, my dad wants breakfast
"The hands of the King are the hands of a healer."
Anyone else notice the parallels?
I wish that they had put more of the Houses of Healing in the movie....it's one of my favorite parts!!! It's funny when Merry wakes up and says he's hungry. Of course that's what a hobbit is thinking of:) They only have a little bit of it in the extended versions.
I think I would DIE if they left out good parts of M.r Batson's books, if they ever make a movie of them!!!! *ok calm down, you wouldn't die you'd just be terribly sad and mad at the movie guys*
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
Well, this isn't going to be a very long post because I don't have a lot of time and I'm also extremely tired. That said, I finally finished reading Starlighter; actually, it was pretty good despite the little flaws I saw. But every piece of writing has flaws. I haven't found one book yet that didn't have them. Shoot, I know my writings are filled with them!!! Anyway, started reading Raising Dragons. And did anyone else know that Brian's Edge books were also published through Zondervan? I knew starlighter was, but I didn't even know a company called Zondervan exsisted before that.
Anyway, that's all I got for now. I think I'll end with a quote of some time... From POTC.
Jack Sparrow: "No need to panic, we're taking over the ship!"
Will Turner: "Aye, Avast!"
And on that happy note, I leave to do homework. :)
and... strike!
I wish my library system had your books Mr. Batson! that would be so cool! oh well, can't win 'em all...
Anonymous,
Sword in the Stars I think is on of Bryan Davis' books. The next book other than the Berinfell Prophecies series WTB will be coming out with is Dark Sea Annals, unless I'm mistaken.
A wise old man once said "Fear is your enemy and trust is your friend."
Not only is this a good quote but it is also one part of a riddle. Does any one else know where this quote is from? (hint: this is from one of WTB's Novels.)
Well...I haven't posted anything for a while. lol Might as well.
This is...meaningful.
Why does CH upload most, but not all, of the Motiv8 tour videos? So that I can only drool over 5? :D ROFL
To upload or not to upload, that...is the question.
First of all, sorry I haven't commented in a while. Our Internet has been down since Thursday. GAH!!!
Jake - That is crazy!! And, yes, I have heard Avalanche by Manafest. Not to brag or anything, but I saw him before I even knew who he was and now I'm going to see him again at YC. Seriously, this is going to be the biggest Canadian concert of the year!!!!
Archer - Yup, heard of all of them.
Lady DragonKeeper - I can understand why Ferus is your favorite character too. I mean, just take a look at the cover of "Return Of The Dark Side." He's so cute!!!!! (Sorry, I had a crush on him for a while) *blushes* And I agree about Siri. Obi-Wan like. . . no, love Siri. Then they (the Clone Wars people) go in and ruin it with Dutchess Satine. Oh, well. It isn't like we have any control over what they do. . .
Oh, and Arianna is my favorite Angel Wars character.
Patrick - My favorite Star Wars scenes. . . *thinks for several minutes* Anything that has super high action/adventure or brutally intense emotions (hence the duel in Return Of The Jedi).
NC - Yes, I listened to Adventures In Odyssey until they came out my ears!!! Favorite character: Jason, since I almost always go for the bad boy! (Well, not always, but probably 85% of the time!)
~Never Alone~
Ok, im in on these lotr quizzes...hmm...how about this one:
What substance covers pippin in the
return of the king?
Hello everyone,
I had a great day today - got a lot accomplished! I love that feeling.
Alright, Elizabeth, you've posted quite a few LOTR questions! Yay!
1) What did Arwen give to Frodo in Return of King?
A: a little white gem on a necklace.
2) Name each of the gifts that Galadriel gave the company.
A:
Legolas: a bow from Lothlorien,
Gimli: three strands of her golden hair
Merry, Pippin, Boromir: elven belts
Sam: a little box full of earth from Lothlorien, seeds, and a Mallorn tree "acorn"
Aragorn: an elven sheath for his sword Anduril, and a special broach which pertained to his other name: Elessar the elfstone. (Aragorn has quite a few names... has anyone else noticed!)
Frodo: the phial of Galadriel holding the light from the star Earendil.
3) I think a servant of the enemy would feel fairer and look fouler.
A: This is in reference to Aragorn (or Strider as he was known to the hobbits at the time.)
Whew! That was a lot. Now, if only I can think of a question. Oh, alright. Here's one *evil chuckle* that someone gave to me a few years ago: Are there dragons in Gondor?
The answer is not as simple as you may suspect! lol, but I'm sure y'all will be able to get it.
Elizabeth Marie Kauffman, yes, the kids have been great. And though I say kids, actually they were of all ages, from kindergarten up highschool graduates. We did A Midsummer Night's Dream. My sister and I adapted the script from the original shakespeare to make it a bit more kid-friendly. It went really well!
I don't remember who asked if anyone had read the L.B. Graham books, but I have been reading them lately. I've been enjoying them a ton, but I feel like though they have great potential, at times it seems like the author didn't manage to carry it off all the way... and I think that certain main characters throughout the books spend far too much time mooning over the girl they like etc. It slows down the action when there are far more important things going on. But that's just me! And don't get me wrong, I've been enjoying the books a whole lot! I do really like them! :)
Patrick: Again, it's hard for me to choose! I love so many of them... but I think that Aragorn has to be my favorite character in the LOTR. Haha, when my dad read it aloud to me when I was four, I always pictured my dad as Aragorn!
And in the Silmarillion... I liked Turin. I always felt so bad for him - poor fellow - everything went wrong for him from the beginning!
Oh, the other thing I wish Tolkien had had more about, was Beren when he lived with his father Barahir as an outlaw... and when he crossed through Ered Gorgoroth and the wilderness of Dungortheb with the spiders like Ungoliant and Shelob...
Oh, did you know that Tolkien had the name "Beren" cut on his grave and "Luthien" on that of his wife? Isn't that so sweet?
Well, I have some writing to do tonight... if I can keep awake long enough to do it, that is! I'm so exhausted right now, but I want to write and that's what Dr. Pepper is for, right? :)
Hey you guys...i was wondering how many of you have been to the creation museum in KY? i've been there twice and if someone hasnt its def. worth the trip (i live in MI) The planetarium was prob the most powerful display of gods creation that i have ever seen put on by men...Also i was wondering what you people thought about calvinism and arminianism (sp?) (thats mans free will/God's sovereignty and election. As for me i am a calvinist, but i also believe in mans responsibility...i'll go deeper if anybody wants to chat about such things.
wow, suddenly all the posts are on here again! For awhile I couldn't see any of them.
Gillian, you are way too good at LOTR trivia: it's just not fair! Bit I suppose if I'd litterally grown up on the stuff, I'd be good at it too, huh? :)
And I can't remember who it was that was directing the play, but way to go! I had to direct a children's choir once; I was pretty happy with it since most of the kids were definitely NOT singers... I even got a few of them to hold a harmony!
Ok, enough rambling. next time I post I promise I'll try to post something more meaningful... promise to try. Right now, though, I think I'm going to go back and read some excerpts. I love reading them! I really do.
Ok, I'm done jabbering now.
(btw, how many of you have seen the new Alice in Wonderland movie, and what did you think of it? Personally, I thought it was pretty cool, but I've always loved alice in wonderland, and my favorite poem of all time is the Jabberwocky poem; I was actually quoting it along with Johnny Depp on screen. So what did you guys think of it?)
Greetings, everyone! More to come tomorrow, but in the meantime another quote...
Two quotes from J.R.R. Tolkien about his friendship with CS Lewis:
"Friendship with Lewis compensates for much, and besides giving constant pleasure and comfort has done me much good from the contact with a man at once honest, brave, intellectual--a scholar, a poet, and a philosopher--and a lover, at least after a long pilgrimage, of Our Lord."
"The unpayable debt that I owe to him was not 'influence' as it is ordinarily understood, but sheer encouragement. He was for long my only audience. Only from him did I ever get the idea that my 'stuff' could be more than a private hobby."
Timothy Wallace: Was it the old scribe who wrote the prophecy that Aiden and Antoinette found? =) I love that part. =)
Elizabeth, I totally agree with you. Some parts totally have to be in the book, even if you aren't necessary. One example being the scene with Aiden and the evil army of lantern spiders. =)
Okay, i have a little time.
How is everyone?
i am going to make this really short.
Has anybody heard of the old tv series scarecrow and mrs. King. my mom got some out of the library, they are accutally not that bad.
Well i said it was going to be short
Endruance and Victory
Jolayne
Jake: its called Sword in the Stars and I am not sure of the series. It's fantasy. I am Mr. Batson's friend on facebook so that's how i know:) I am not sure when it is coming out....
Cloe: I LOVE THAT EXCERPT!!!!!! KEEP writing!!! I can't wait to here more!!!
Star -Dreamer: fingers crossed!!
Timothy Wallace: uuumm I am thinking it was one of his Door Within books? I like the quote:)
ah I can't think of a quote.. I'll have one later:)
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
For everyone who was asking about my audition-Results weren't exactly favorable. . . . I got a rather small part. [sigh] But, I put this in God's hands, and I know He's in control. He must have had some reason for me not getting that part. . . I just can't see what it is yet, though I'm praying that He'll show me.
Here is one of my all time favorite Bible verses:
"For the Lord your God is living among you.
He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”
–Zephania 3:17
~ElizabethMarieKauffman~
Elizabeth Anonymous; Oh, good questions... Um, the first one might be a little hard to answer since there's a whole book to cover... Give me a minute. But here's my answer to the second question;
Galadriel gave everyone in the company special elven cloaks that may hide the wearer from evil, and a precious (metal) leaf as a clasp. Then she gave seperate gifts to the company (let's see if I can get this without looking);
To Frodo she gave a vial with the light of Earindil (spelled wrong, sorry).
To Sam she gave a small box of dirt that would cause anything to flourish. This, personally, is my favorite gift. :)
She gave a sheath and the Elfstone to Aragorn.
To Pippin and Merry, she gave two silver belts.
To Legolas, a new bow, I think.
Gandalf was lost at this time, so he was not in Lorien.
To Gimli, three hairs from her head.
To Boromir... Ah, this is where it gets hard. I don't know this one. Here, I'll look it up... She gave him a belt of gold.
I give up on the first question. :)
Cloe; Good prologue!
Gillian; Perhaps after the death of Ecthelion, Denethor's father?
Patrick; Yes, Stephen Lawhead is a good author.
Jusbem; (JUS-bem) An unpopular name in the district of Nasddjia in Pksfine.
Alright, I'll post another excerpt (from Chapter Two) of the challenge story.
~*~
Maveral paced slowly along the tall rock walls contemplatively flipping a throwing knife in his hand as he surveyed his surroundings in the fading light of the sunset. Three days had passed since he first brought the news to the green palace and nearly the entire population of the Gwahere had completed their evacuation to Rysinger, filling the large rock fortress nearly to the ceiling beams.
Still, he noted with relief, the utter chaos which had reigned during the first two days, had finally begun to die down. No longer did the Keep ring with continued shouting, and repeated bellowed orders, and the screaming of babies and wailing of children as families squeezed into the already crowded rooms and hallways. At last, a semblance of peace seemed to have been restored to the Loch and the Rock Fortress. Yet, as Maveral stared over the battlemented walls at the view that opened below him, he could not help feeling that such peace was likely to be transitory at best. From long habit, he forced himself to survey the Rock Fortress not from the eyes of one of its defenders, but from the eyes of a besieger, noting the fortress’ strengths and weaknesses.
It was true that the Rock Fortress of Rysinger was a well situated and formidable place; it had been built for the sole purpose of defense. Standing upon a bastion or island of rock in the middle of Loch Kilne, it was nearly completely cut off from the mainland and accessible only by boat or the narrow bridge that met the fortress upon the western side.
The Loch bounded the rock island upon all four sides, and the tall sheer cliffs which on three sides formed the base of the island as it rose out of the Loch, made any attempt at an attack more difficult. To the west, however, the fourth side of the island rose somewhat more gradually from the water and a narrow path ran up from the bridge along the fortress wall to a large gate in the northern wall. The path, however, was commanded by the west wall of the fortress. Any attacking party attempting to approach the main gate along that path would find itself open to raking archery fire from the besieged above.
Such a plan of attack would difficult at best.
No, Maveral concluded, the best place for an attack was the northern wall and the main gate, and if he were the commander of the besieging army rather than the captain of the besieged, that would be where he would plan his main assault concealed beneath a feint attack on the path by the western wall. Upon the north side, the cliffs bent slightly outwards as they rose, so that the top of the cliff and the wall of the fortress overshadowed the base of the cliff, hiding it from view. If a party of men could succeed in reaching the base of the cliff, they would be safely hidden from reach of arrow or bow shot and, if equipped with grapnels and ladders, would eventually be able to make their way to the top to attack the main gate. The main gate was old, very old, and though the Gwahere had done their best to repair and strengthen it, Maveral feared that the gate lacked the strength necessary to withstand a siege. It might be that even a small body of men, if they managed to scale the cliffs, would be able to force an entrance at the old main gate, while the attention of the Gwahere warriors was focused elsewhere.
Still, Maveral acknowledged, the difficulties of the northern attack were great as well; there was the loch to be reckoned with and without boats the besieging party could not hope to cross such a deep and treacherous body of water. So, he reasoned, if the first several attack attempts failed – for though they had as yet seen no sign of the enemy, he did not for a moment doubt that they would be attack– the enemy would try another tactic: starvation. This could be considered the greatest danger to the fortress. With the entire Gwahere population crowded into the Keep, even all the food they had managed to store would not last long and starvation would soon become a serious threat.
Yet, even beyond the risk of starvation, the weakness of the main gate, and the defects in their defenses, a deeper worry plagued Maveral. Not a worry necessarily, but rather a growing awareness, deep within, that time had not stopped for the outside world over the past two hundred years, as it had for the Gwahere. The understanding of the art of war would have gradually become more and more advanced in the outside world since the Gwahere took to the Greenwood. He studied the leather and quilted cloth armor of his people; their simple swords and wooden bucklers; their javelins, long bows and hunting arrows. Iron was scarce in the Greenwood, and difficult to find; most of the metal weapons they had were those that had been brought into the Greenwood when the Gwahere first arrived. Over the years those weapons were repaired, or, if beyond aid, melted down and re-forged with all the skill the smithies could contrive. Beyond those first ancient weapons however, the Gwahere were only able to forge a small number of new weapons from the limited supply of iron and metal they mined in the forest.
Materials for making metal weapons would have been far more easily found on the other side of the Greenwood border, but for the past two hundred years it had been the law of the Gwahere that no man should ever cross the border, for the safety of all the Gwahere depended upon the secrecy of their existence. And so over the years they had become accustomed to making do with such materials as were readily available in the forest. They tipped their spears and arrows with hard flints and stone; they made wooden bucklers, padded with animal skins and furs; their armor was made from leather and thickly-padded quilted cloth.
Maveral shuddered to think of the far superior weapons and armor he had seen in their enemies’ encampment. An image sprang into his mind suddenly, of the torn ground surrounding the two slain Gwahere border guards, and the strangely heavy footprints. At least he could explain it now, though that was slight consolation; the heavy footprints were the tracks of soldiers clad in the full body metal armor which he had seen. Such armor was doubtlessly thick and heavy, and he wondered whether the flint tipped arrows of the Gwahere were even so much as dent it let alone cause any injury. Maveral shook his head sadly at the remembrance of the conversations he had overheard among the men - talk of complicated siege engines and machines that could hurl enormous rocks at great distances, rocks capable of breaking down fortress walls. He ran a hand through his wild brown hair, and closed his eyes, shutting out the anxious thoughts.
Behind him the fortress buzzed with preparations for the coming battle; weapons were repaired and added to the armory, men and young boys who had been recruited for the army were trained, and food was gathered and stored within the inner keep. Maveral watched as a company of young new recruits practiced with the bow and arrow. A simple enough weapon, but the youngsters were having a hard time finding the target. He stifled a grim chuckle as the instructor - one of his border guards named Berwyn - received an arrow in the hat and then marched determinedly forward to teach the young recruit a lesson.
And these were the men and boys with whom the Gwahere were supposed to defeat nearly ten thousand well-armed and trained soldiers? Maveral shook his head and turning, strode back inside the inner keep.
(skipped portion)
Slowly the midnight hours passed by and the wee morning hours came. Out upon the wall tops, border guards paced to and fro, stifling yawns and blinking to keep bleary eyes open. A thick fog had set in with the fading of the moon and it wrapped around the Rock Fortress of Rysinger and the surrounding Loch like a blanket, hiding everything from view.
It was the last hour before dawn. The sky was just beginning to lighten in the east, but the world was still veiled in shadow and the thick fog remained, obscuring all vision. A border guard strode wearily along his route; thirty paces forward, thirty paces back. He had counted it many times during the long hours he had been on watch throughout the night. The first inkling he had that they were under attack was a strange sort of ‘whooshing’ sound, like air whistling past a large flying object. He looked up just in time to see an enormous boulder hurtling towards him; he let out one anguished yell before it crashed into the wall where he was standing.
Inside the inner keep, Maveral jolted awake as the guard’s dying scream echoed across the wall top. He had fallen asleep in a spare corner, wrapped in his cloak and still clad in his leather armor. Silence followed the scream and then a wild blaring horn call shattered the anxious stillness of the night; blown upon a single white curved horn, it was the Gwahere call to arms. Maveral leapt to his feet and hastily buckled his sword around his waist. He fumbled for a moment in the darkness, found his bow and quiver and raced out to the wall tops. Chaos reigned in the courtyard as new soldiers scrambled to their assembling points on the wall, wandering helplessly through the fog and dodging debris and rubble showered down from the constant pounding of the rocks fired regularly from enemy war machines.
Maveral made his way through the confusion to the northern wall top and halted just above the main gate, peering off into the fog in all directions. Nothing. He could see nothing. But wait… there was something. He leaned forward, staring intently.
“Captain,”
Maveral nodded absently without turning; he recognized the voice so there was no need to look. “Yes, Hendryk, what is it?”
“Troops ready and awaiting orders, sir.”
Maveral glanced behind him at the straight lines of Gwahere warriors assembled above the main gate in rank and file. Though the soldiers involuntarily ducked every time a boulder flew by overhead or crashed somewhere nearby, determination was clearly spelled out in every face. They may not be trained soldiers, but they will fight. Maveral noted with satisfaction. “Well done, Hendryk.”
(short portion skipped)
An hour passed; an hour of intense waiting as the eastern sky gradually lightened more and more. At last the sun rose into the sky, bringing with it a steady wind that scattered the night fog and blew it far across the loch, leaving only a few faint shreds and tendrils of mist behind. High upon the walls of the Rock Fortress, Maveral looked out towards the southern shore of the loch as he and the king made the rounds of the posts. He froze at the dreadful sight that met his eyes.
“Gaelbard,” he called without removing his gaze from the shore. “You might want to look at this.” He managed to keep his voice calm, but there was a hint of urgency in his tone meant to serve as a warning to the king.
Gaelbard stepped forward to the battlement and followed the line of Maveral’s pointing arm. He too halted in surprise, and his blue eyes widened in dread and shock. There, lining the entire southern shore of Loch Kilne a massive army was gathered. The morning sun glinted red and gold off their armor and helmets like a blazing fire; their spears were so numerous that it appeared that a forest of young trees had suddenly sprouted upon the shore.
The Zaeldorian army was gathered into three large columns and each column was divided into three thick rows. Behind the main army were ten tall wooden structures which even then kept up a regular deadly rain of enormous rocks and boulders upon the fortress. And behind the row of war machines was a second body of men massed together in irregular order and not clad in the full armor of the main army, wearing only a breastplate and iron cap for protection: the archers and crossbow men of the troop, Maveral realized. Even as Maveral and Gaelbard stood gazing upon the dreadful scene, the archers upon the far shore released a hail of arrows upon the distant fortress.
Maveral grabbed the King’s arm and pulled him down beneath the protective overhang of the parapet as the rain of arrows clattered down over the walls and down into the courtyard. Screams and wails of pain and agony rang out throughout the fortress, answering to the effectiveness of enemy arrows against the leather armor of the Gwahere.
“Are you alright sire?” Maveral demanded as he pulled the king back to his feet.
Gaelbard nodded his head, but he looked somewhat shaken as he gazed out over the destruction in the courtyard. “I am well. Quickly! We must get back to the northern defenses.” Maveral nodded and at once took off along the wall with the king of the Gwahere at his heels.
Maveral and Gaelbard wove their way through the masses of Gwahere archers leaping to the walls in order to return fire upon their enemies. Maveral halted a moment to see the effectiveness of the Gwahere bowmen. Their long bows and arrows had an even greater range than the weapons of their enemies, and among the archers they caused deadly havoc, but at such a great distance their flint points failed to pierce the thick armor of the spear man and footmen that lined the shore.
Maveral sighed and hurred after Gaelbard, stumbling slightly as the constant bombardment from the catapults continued smashing into the walls and the thick black rock of the fortress shuddered under the impact.

Alright, that's it for now. Sorry, I posted a lot this time... and it's still a little rough - in need of rewriting etc. I'm sure there are some POV errors in it at the moment. I haven't had a chance to go back and correct all that yet! But, I enjoy writing the battle scenes! Y'all actually don't get o read the whole battle... it goes on for about two chapters after this! lol
Ha ya'll
Sword In The Stars is the first book to his new series, The Datk Sea Annals.
Star-Dreamer; Congrats!!!! And Publish quickly so I can read it.
Anonymous Elizabeth; Okay I think I know these.
Frodo-Light of the arron gel, or something like that.
Sam-an elvish rope.
Mary & Pipen-Cloaks
Gimbly-Three strands of her hair.
And I don't quite remember the others.
Jolayne; I can't believe you and Eldra get to see TFK and bunch of other bands. That....that just isn't right LOL:D
That is all I can comment for now.
Be Blessed:)
Looking at them, Jesus said, "With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."
Mark 10:27
~This is Epic, by the way...
ok my quote:)
"When 900 years you reach, look as good you will not! hmm!"
:) Just watched Return of the Jedi and love that quote:) I also LOVE that movie!! Has to be one of my favorites! For the Star Wars fans out there... which one is yours?
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
Yes very Epic!
From the Restorer-
"Hey look, it's us in the future!"
"No, that's us in the past, because they've already been where we're going to go."
Time paradoxes are good at making my head hurt... xD
just got back from a party smelling like wood smoke. :D
Anynomous Elizabeth, yes, it is from one of Mr. Batson's Door Within novels.
Mermaid Girl 45, Unfortunantely no, it is not Zabediel (the old scribe Aidan and Antoinette find) Although it does have to do with a scroll and Antoinette hint...hint...=). Unless I am mistaken and the scroll was written by Zabediel.
And is this Sword in the Stars book a part of a seperate series other than the Berinfell Prophecies? Also that must be hard writing two books at the same time even if you are coauthoring one of them. =)
And a Soldier named Karl Von Clausewitz said
"War is the continuation of politics by other means"
Very accurate!!!
Gillian; Uhhh... Perhaps there are dragons in the White Mountains, hence in Gondor... I have a feeling this is a trick question.
That excerpt was amazing... It reminds me of Chris Walley's writing, which I greatly admire... He's on my top ten list, and I've read a lot of books. Please tell us all when you're done, and I'll do my best to buy it... Seriously. I'm glad I found one punctuation mistake; it tells me that your writing isn't perfect! I was rather afraid it was... Now I'm feeling dreadfully inferior. :(
I found this free self publishing thing that looks too good to be true at Createspace.com, a trademark of Amazon.com... I'd encourage you to check it out.
*Yawn* To bed, then. Goodbye, weekend!
I was supposed to post this yesterday, but the internet wasn't working on my comp. : ) So, apologies for the late comments
@ Timothy Wallace - Was it an NIV study Bible you got that quote from? LOL, if so, we might have the same Bible . . . I believe the quote was by Blaise Pascal?
@ Archer - Yeah, I didn't want to discourage you or anything . . . just a sort of "heads up." :) What I would probably do is, if your book was going to be published, check with the author and publisher and see where that goes. If I was the publisher, I'd love to have one of the series/books that I published mentioned in another book (almost like free publicity) and I'd be flattered if I was an author --but then if they said "no" THEN I'd change it to the something like your second version. :)
@ Star-Dreamer - AMG published Bryan Davis's "Dragons in our Midst" and "Oracles of Fire" series, right? How exciting! Is a query different from sending a manuscript (I'm assuming so, since it has a different name)? I'm not familiar with publishing terms. If it's God's will for you at this time and place, I'm sure it will all work out! Let us know what happens . . .
@ NotOfThisWorld - I love Bryan Davis's books . . . the only one I "hate" (which is really "I don't like it as compared to his other books" LOL) is "Raising Dragons" . . . ugh, his writing has improved SO much since that one --just read the school scenes in "Raising Dragons" compared to the school scenes in "Beyond the Reflection's Edge" (from his "Echoes From the Edge" trilogy). I like pretty much all the characters, but my favorites are Elam, Sapphira, and Ashley.
I haven't read the "Binding of the Blade" series, is it good? I keep hearing about that one and I want to read it, but our library doesn't have it. It's sort of weird, but I like to "preview" a.k.a. read books before I buy them, unless they're by an author I know of or that I've bought from in the past (like Wayne Thomas Batson, for example).
@ Jake - I believe after "Isle of Fire" came out, there was rumors that WTB was coming out with another series that would be 7 books long called "The Dark Sea Annals" --he mentioned it on his blog several times, but then this project, "The Berinfell Prophecies" with Christopher Hopper presented itself, so he put the "Dark Sea Annals" on the side . . . according to Amazon, the first book "The Sword in the Stars" will be published in August: http://www.amazon.com/Sword-Stars-Book1-Dark-Annals/dp/0899578772/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272793545&sr=1-9
I'm not liking the book cover right now . . . AMG's Living Ink published Bryan Davis's first two series and their covers were detailed with scenes from the book (mostly). I hope that isn't the final cover . . . What does a playing card have to do with the story?
@ Eldra - LOL, yeah he is cute . . . ;) :P His personality reminded me of another SW character --one of the Solo children's friend, Zekk. Have you seen the Japanese covers? They're really cool: http://space.geocities.jp/akihikomonnai/covers.html
I think I already mention my favorite Angel Wars character --Kira . . . she's sort of like me, I guess, LOL. But Ariana is awesome too. : D I love the duel she had with Morg in the 2nd episode.
@ Gillian - That was me asking about the "Binding of the Blade" series --thanks for your thoughts!
@ ElizabethMarieKauffman - I know you're a bit disappointed you didn't get the part you wanted, but at least your in the play! :) You have the right attitude about it though . . . God is in control.
Jake: No, not after Ecthelion died... Keep guessing! :)
Star-Dreamer: Yes, I literally did grow up on the LOTR. When I was younger, it was pretty much the only book I would read... that lasted about 2 years and then I discovered that, while the LOTR is my absolute favorite, there are lots of other awesome books out there! lol
Oh, and I'm the one who's been directing a play. It was awesome. All over now, but the kids did amazing! I was so proud of them.
Well, I got a goodly bit of writing done. A battle scene, of course. Those are so much fun to write. But now, it is time I went to bed... well, at least that means I'll go get into bed and then read for another hour or so or until I'm too tired to keep my eyes open. There's just not enough time in the day to do everything! :)
Proverbs 24:11-12: "Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering towards slaughter. If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who guards you life know it? Will He not repay each person according to what he has done?"
Read this verse and think about the fact that those who do not know about Christ are "staggering towards slaughter," they are being "led away to death." And what are we doing about it? If you saw someone walking along and knew that the path they were following ended suddenly over the edge of a cliff, and that they would fall, would you not say something - ANYTHING - to make them stop! To warn them? Why do we not do the same thing with those who are unbelievers! Why do I find it so hard to share the good news with others? It is so wrong. Lord help me to do better!
LOTR QUIZ:
how was the game of golf invented?
Way easy i know...but my last one didnt get answered:(
Totally exited! my fam and i are leaving the farm and heading to the UP to help w/ lambing on my cousins farm...(its one of the biggest sheep farms in MI) who knows maybe we'll be able to bring back some lambs...
Elizabeth: sorry to hear about your part...do it to the best of your ability and give god the glory.
Star Dreamer: do we get to read any of this Song of the Daystar? the title itself is captivating.
-NOTW
Gillian: I think there USED to be dragons in Gondor. There arent anymore...at least not that i heard of!
And yes you got the questions right:) You know when Arwen gives Aragorn that necklace in the movie? It always bothers me because she's suppose to give it to Frodo! Oh and I always pictured my dad as Aragorn or Faramir.. He looks like David Wenham who plays Faramir in the movie:P
Star Dreamer: I saw Alice in Wonderland and I liked it a lot!! I love Johnny Depp and I love Helena Bonham Carter who play the red queen. She really made the movie good. Thats cool that you were quoting the Jabborwacky poem:) When I watch movies I really like I am always quoting along with the characters!
Jake: see gillians post for the answer to the first question.
ElizabethMarieKaufmen: I remember when I was in a Mary Poppins play. I got the part of a servant and I was really sad. But I figured God must have a reason and he did! I got to help with a lot of the special effects!! It was really awesome! I also got to help choreograph the chimney sweeps dance! So yes he has a plan!
I have to get off so I will post my quote later!~
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
Good morning all!
Elizabeth Marie Kauffman: Oh, I'm sorry you didn't get the part you wanted! But even if it is a small part, mark it down to experience! I'm sure you'll do great at it and wow everybody with you skill in even a small part! :)
Jake: Thanks, I'm glad you've enjoyed my story... I'm afraid it's no where near finished. I've a long way to go with it! Oh goodness, not perfect, not by a long shot! I re-read the excerpt I posted and came up with several punctuation errors on my own! ;) Thanks for your feedback.
Haha, and yes, it is sort of a trick question... it refers to a certain conversation which takes place in the Return of the King. But I won't give you any more hints than that just yet! ;)
Not-of-this-world: I love that question! The game of golf was invented by Bullroarer Took (incidently the only hobbit tall enough to ride on a real horse). He rode into battle against the goblins, and with one mighty stroke struck off the chief goblin's head, which landed upon the ground, rolled and fell into a rabbit hole. And thus the game of golf was invented and the battle was won all in one mighty stroke! Haha. Good old Bullroarer. Oh, Tolkien. He was so clever, wasn't he?
Well, I have to run now. Hopefully I'll get some more writing done today! I hope y'all have a great day everyone! This has been so much fun getting to "talk" to you all, I really don't want it to end! lol
Wow, this is the 905th (or something) comment... The most I've ever had on my blog is about 9! lol.
Here's one of my favorite Bible verses:
The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn,
shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
Proverbs 4:18 (NIV)
I have been pondering: will this thread ever die???
I'm amazed that people are still posting more than a month after this contest started! O_O
Gillian-I think a Shakespeare would be really fun to act in!!!! :) (Minus all the junk of course.) I bet they had a ton of fun!
Lady DragonKeeper, NotOfThisWorld-Thank you for the encouragement! I'm touched. :) But since I had been praying that if I should be in this play, then God would give me a larger part, I'm taking this as Him saying no; that He has some other plan for this summer besides me being in this play. I'm not sure what it is! But I guess I'll just have to trust Him! :)
"There's a lot of people who are hurting and just waiting for you to step out in faith."-a quote I picked up from a sermon I heard in the past.

Lady DragonKeeper; A query is a short summary of a book. To make a query, you need to summarize a book in a way that would make a person who had never heard of you or the book want to read it. Believe me, it's hard. Oh, thanks for the Amazon link!
Gillian; Did the Tree die when Osgiliath fell?
NotOfThisWorld; Umm... Oh, I KNEW this... Okay, I give up... Ask Gillian, who ALWAYS knows the answer to LOTR questions... In great detail.
Ahhhh... German dark chocolate. MMmmmm.
Phopo; (FO-PO) Something to do with photos that I forgot.
Lady DragonKeeper; Yeah, I agree... The cover wasn't exactly what I expected. I didn't, uh, expect to see a playing card on the front. The series and book titles are intriuging... The cover, not so much. Well, sort of.
Any opinions on that?
Lady DragonKeeper - Yeah, I've seen the Japanese covers before. Thanks for the link to that site, I've never been able to find any decent quality pictures of the covers before! In a way, I almost like the Japanese covers better, although Ferus definitely looks younger than the American covers. But I like them both. Yikes! Now I can't decide what my all-time favorite picture is!!!! I like them all!!!!
Has anyone ever played the game Endless Ocean for the Wii? If you love games that are pretty much unlimited, it's so worth the buy. I've already spent over eleven hours on it since Friday. Hey! I didn't have Internet. What was I supposed to do?
~Never Alone~
Ha ya'll
Timothy Wallace; If I'm not mistaken, I think it was either Captain Valothor (hope I spelt that right) or Grampin.
Star-Dreamer;I liked Alice in Wanderland, but it was just a little drug on. It seemed like the story didn't actualy start, like a runnon sentence. But I thought the rest was cool.
Lady DragonKeeper; Ya, I think I'll go with something like the rewrite of that scene. It'll just be a little easyer, but on the other hand as you pointed out, it would be free publicity and if I do get it published and some years after that, someone wanted to do the same thing I want to do, I would be onored (I selt that wrong, sorry) that someone would interested in my book. So thank-you again for your input, it was realy helpful:)
My library has Green by Ted Dekker, I hit the request item almost as soon as I saw it. Has anyone else read Green yet?
Here is a scripture
Mark 1:16-17
"Now as he walked by the sea of Glilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
And Jesus said to them COME YE AFTER ME, AND I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN."
Be Blessed:)
Gillian: I CANT WAIT TO READ MORE!!! I can tell though that you have read LOTR in some of the parts:) But don't worry its very subtle. My book is even worse for figuring out what books I have read. It has too much LOTR in it I'm afraid.
Fire Phoenix: I love that quote:) It reminds me of one from another movie right after the characters time traveled back in time. the one character who didn't travel says: "But you were there and now your there!" another character says: "Honestly! How can we be in two places at once?" Then the 2 people who time traveled looked at each other and laughed.
Timothy Wallace: Does King Eliam say it?
So another LOTR question: Who was the old man that Gimli sees in The Two Towers?
Jake I am with you I think that the dragon question is a trick question....
my quote will come from Star Wars. Its one of my favorites because it says so much and we need to be careful about our feelings.
Yoda: "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."
Elizabeth:)

Lady Dragonkeeper...yes BotB series is outstanding...but he has a different style than WTB or Bryan Davis...I hope you like allegories
Has anyone seen the Mary Poppins musical??? We just went to see it last night, and it was SOOO good!!!

I heard this quote tonight at my youth group.
"It is not the parts of the Bible I don't understand that bother me, but the parts I do understand" Mark Twain
@ Lady Dragon Keeper,
My bible is a NASB Student Bible, a couple of my friends from church have the same bible just different translations.
Also I personally think (judging from the cover and summary)that the cover of Mr. Batson's new book is relevant because it seems to be a contrast between Good and Evil.
Note the top of the card shows a good looking king and the bottom of it shows an evil looking king.
And now in the words of my dad I will tell you what I will do next.
Meshack, Radshack, and To-bed-we-go
or should I say to-bed-I-go.

Did that comment work I cant tell
Well, good evening.
Here is an amazing quote from Cyrano de Bergerac. It is the most brilliant... amazing... wonderful thing ever!
"I - I am going to be a storm - a flame - I need to fight whole armies all alone; I have ten hearts; I have a hundred arms; I feel Too strong to war with mortals - BRING ME GIANTS!"
~ Cyrano de Bergerac
Does that not make you want to break out your three musketeers hat and go stomping about the room with rapier drawn! Haha, lol. But seriously, I love Cyrano de Bergerac. It is awesome.
Well, I'm afraid that it's for now since I have to run. Rather short comment for me... but perhaps you all appreciate that! ;) lol
Hopefully I'll be able to post a longer post come tomorrow, but here's another Tolkien quote in the meantime:
"If you're going to have a complicated story you must work to a map; otherwise you'll never make a map of it afterwards."
Well, I just recieved my first rejection notice ever. Should I be sad about it? Hmmm... Probably, but I'm not. Actually, I'm relatively happy about it: (you can read more on my blog if you want... but I'm too tired and dosed up right now to write more. *crazy smile*) ;)
So . . . how's school going for everyone? I'm guessing a lot of you are home-schooled, so I don't know if you all get summer break, but . . . I only have two more days of school! Then next week is "finals week" >_< Please keep all of us college students in your prayers . . . we appreciate it! : ) Does anyone have any "special" summer plans? I'm going to help with our "unofficial" camp for Awana clubbers in our state --It's my first time going as a "counselor" so I'm sort of nervous/excited about it . . .
hey one of my fovrite bible verses is
"they that hope in the lord shall renue there streanth. They will soar on wings like eagals, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint those who hope in the light will renu there streanth."
I guess being a sports player that verse just really struck me and made me realize that my streanth should be in the light
Jake: No, not when Osgiliath fell… would y’all like the answer?
Elizabeth: Yes, I’m sure there are traces of the LOTR in my story! I would probably be surprised if there weren't. But it’s still in a very rough draft form – I haven’t even finished it yet, so I definitely haven’t had time to rewrite and fix it up and remove all those traces of other stories! ;)
Haha, when I first started trying to write stories in first grade, my characters were all named after LOTR characters! Haha, it was really funny! Thankfully, I've gotten past that. lol
Alright, in answer to your LOTR question: the old man was actually Saruman!
Lady Dragon Keeper: I do have specific summer plans! I’m going to be working the whole summer as head wrangler at a Christian youth camp. I’ve worked there for several years and it’s awesome! That's so neat that you're going to be a counselor! I hope you have a great time.
Awesome verse: I Corinthians 15:57-58 "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm! Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
hey, whoever asked the dragon question...pretty sure the answer is no...if your talking about a live fire-breathing dragon...seems like i remember smaug being the last of his kind. just u notion.
LOTR quiz:which dwarf from the hobbit had a blue beard.
Huh... one of my posts didn't show up and now I can't even remember what I posted. I think I was answering a question, but I can't remember which one that would be... and I'm fighting a really mean cold.
Maybe I'll post something more meaningful later in the day. Right now I'm trying to work on a skit for a school project... it's interesting, but nothing really exciting...
Ah, I'll think of something more intriquing to talk about later. *is very tired*
Anonymous Elizabeth–That is really cool!!! And very encouraging. :) Thank you!
Gillian–Thank you for the encouragement! :) But as I told Lady DragonKeeper and NotOfThisWorld; I'd been asking God that if I should be in this play that I would get a larger part, and if I shouldn't be in it, then I wouldn't. So I'm taking this as God saying no to this play. And actually, already it's turning out for the better. The money that we were going to use to pay for the camp (the play was a summer camp), we're going to now be able to use for a short film that I'm making this summer with some friends, and that will help out a TON!! God is also giving me peace about waiting until He provides me with the next opportunity in acting that HE wants me to have. :) It's really nice to feel that peace that can only come from Him!! :)

Archer; Yep, I read Green... It wasn't quite of the caliber Red, Black, and White were, although it had a good ending. Some parts of it weren't very good at all, though.
Anonymous Elizabeth; Um, that's sort of a trick question too... I think the old man they saw was Saruman, as Gandalf said it wasn't him [Gandalf], but that always puzzled me, to this day. Maybe I missed out on something?
Noah; I've read every single comment ever posted on this blog post. Really.
Gillian; From the movie Cyrano De Bergerac? I love that! It is so funny, especially when that one guy says (near the beginning,)
"Your nose. Your nose is rather large."
Cyrano says, "Is that all? Think of all the things you could have said..." And then he goes on with a list of insults the man could have said. lol!
Star-Dreamer; If I had a publication agency (which I don't), I'd publish your book. However, if you can't find a publisher eventually, you should check out this too-good-to-be-true website for self publishing; createspace.com.
Isn't the book of Acts just amazing? Sorry, that was random. But I'm thinking of writing a blog post on it on one of my blogs.
Persion; Someone from Persia.... Wait, that's Persian...
Archer - Yes, I've read Green. It's a great book and has probably the best/worst ending I've ever read in my entire life. Anything more would be a spoiler. Have you read any of the Project: Showdown books (Showdown, Saint and Sinner?) because Green will make much more sense if you do, although you don't have to. Seriously, Ted Dekker is a master storyteller.
WV: sanist - a weird misspelling of the word Saint. (hehe!)
And has some of the most confusing plots I've ever read.
Speaking of, does anyone have a favorite Ted Dekker book? If so, why? (I may have asked this before, so if I have, sorry.) Mine probably has to Saint. As for the why. . .well, storyline comes first. It pretty much twisted my head off when I read it. Besides that, I love the detail that he put into all the scenes, especially with the weapons and the "special powers" some of the characters have.
~Never Alone~
OH Gillian I KNEW the game of golf had to do with hobbits!! I just couldn't remember for the life of me how it had to do with them!!
Timothy Wallace: I love that to- bed- we- go:)
Star Dreamer: I have gotten a rejection and notice and I will tell you. I cried. But every author starts out their career with LOTS of rejection notices. I wonder how many Mr. Batson got.... My writing teacher told me to think this: "They are missing out on a great story! Someday they will regret it." She also said to paper your wall with the notices but I don't think you have to do that :P Just imagine all the people who rejected Tolkein's works!! I bet they were REALLY mad!!!
Nathanael: I LOVE that bible verse!!
Here's my quote, it's from A Tale a Two Cities which I am reading for school. (and not understanding it very well :s)
"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; and it is a far, far better rest that I go than I have ever known."
Elizabeth:)

"NotOfThisWorld said...
LOTR QUIZ:
how was the game of golf invented?"
I don't know how golf is a LOTR Quiz but...
How I heard Golf was invented was Scottish Guards/soldiers were bored and would throw rocks into holes. Then they started using their swords to hit the rock as close to a hole as possible.
Shortly after this people started making golf clubs to hit the ball.
I know that it is meant to be a joke but I don't know what LOTR has to do with golf.
Matthew: I know Albania@ Well, like, through Geography class. I'm obsessed with different countries. That's really cool that you're a missionary there. That would be my absolute dream. =)
Anonymous: Sounds good! =) I love dragons. They're amazing. =D
Well, it's been a productive day! Reading, writing, horse training, soccer, playing with my little sister, baseball, etc. It's been fun! :) Hope you all had great days too.
Well, I've been working on a short story for the C.S. Lewis short story contest that Star-Dreamer is holding at her blog, but I'm afraid I do not excel at writing "short" stories. The limit is 5K words... and I'm already a little past that... but almost done! So, now I suppose I shall have to go back and cut things out... which means I have to decide what needs to go! Oh, it's terribly complicated! :)
Well, that's all for now. I shall go and finish writing a little more... try to cut my short story down to size! ;)
Star-Dreamer: AMG doesn't know what a good story they're turning down! How long did it take you to write "Song of Daystar"? Hope you can find a publisher soon!
Gillian: Cyrano is awesome; we read it in high school literature a few years back; the Nose knows! Also, agreed on your thoughts on Tolkien from your earlier reply. The vale of Ungoliant sounded eerie just from the description that Tolkien provided; wasn't there another First Age character who passes through the vale also? I can't recall who it was. From LOTR, Aragorn is my favorite as well for many reasons...one reason may have to do with he gets to wield an AWESOME sword (a bit like Cyrano!) lol

Ok, I don' have much to tell today. I can't remember who asked me about queries, but I finally blogged about it: it really was time to do that anyway.
Only a few weeks left of school and then it's summer! I'm excited. I'm already planning my schedule for fall and it's really crazy... I really need to stop planning everything at once; really. But I just can't help it! Oh why do I have to make myself so busy? Why!
Oh well. I guess that's just how I am.
Well, that's all I got for now. Got to go before I don't have enough time to make it home before work... that would be a desaster!
Good news for WTB and CH!
My public library won CotSK for free through the Tribe Building Contest, well I was looking into it's history to see if it has been checked out.
It has been checkout a number of time! This means that my library will be willing get more books that I recommend.
Which means they will be getting the rest of CH's books, as well as WTB and some other christian authors!
Thank you Mr. Batson for the great books!

I love working with kids at camp. my problem is that the staff was, well some of them were amazing, but for most of them it was like high school all over again. as a staff we didn't feel like a family, some of them had the thought in their head that they were better then the rest of us, that really sucked. the kids made it worth it. they were so nice and (sometimes) and full of life, i wish you the best.

I tend to look over the little deatils until my violin teacher told me that if I contuned with this I would get nowhere. And when i read his quote it rlly stuck me :)
Oh the difficulty of finding a suitable title! The title is so important! It must catch the reader's eye and engage them at once, so that they want to read the story! But unfortunately, I can't think of one for the short story I've just finished...
I was looking through a book catalog today, marking down books with poor titles, trying to figure out what it was that made a title interesting to me. Mainly something unusual, an odd mixture of words, nothing clichéd or overused. I can't quite pinpoint it, but at least I can recognize it when I see it!
So, I shall have to keep working on the title for my short story...
Elizabeth Marie Kauffman: Oh that's exciting! I love filming, but haven't done it in a while. lol. But that's so neat that you'll be able to do that!
Jake & Patrick: Yes, Cyrano de Bergerac is amazing. I haven't actually seen the movie, Jake, but I've read the play script, and I love it!
Here's the part you were talking about Jake. It's hilarious!
Ah, no, young sir!
You are too simple. Why you might have said -
Oh, a great many things! Mon dieu, why waste
Your opportunity? For example, thus:
AGGRESSIVE: I, sir, if that nose were mine,
I'd have it amputated - on the spot!
FRIENDLY: How do you drink with such a nose?
You ought to have a cup made specially.
DESCRIPTIVE: 'Tis a rock - a crag - a cape -
A cape? Say rather, a peninsula!
INQUISITIVE: What is that receptacle -
A razor-case or a portfolio?
KINDLY: Ah, do you love the little birds
So much that when they come and sing to you,
You give them this to perch on? INSOLENT:
Sir, when you smoke, the neighbors must suppose
Your chimney is on fire. CAUTIOUS: Take care -
A weight like that might make you topheavy.
THOUGHTFUL: Somebody fetch my parasol -
Those delicate colors fade so in the sun!
PEDANTIC: Does not Aristophanes
Mention a mythologic monster called
Hippocampelephantocamelos?
Surely we have here the original!
FAMILIAR: Well, old torchlight! Hang your hat
Over that chandelier - it hurts my eyes.
ELOQUENT: When it blows, the typhoon howls,
And the clouds darken. DRAMATIC: When it bleeds -
The Red Sea! ENTERPRISING: What a sign
For some perfumer! LYRIC: Hark - the horn
Of Roland calls to summon Charlemagne!
SIMPLE: When do they unveil the monument?
RESPECTFUL: Sir, I recognize in you
A man of parts, a man of prominence
RUSTIC: Hey? What? Call that a nose? Na,na -
I be no fool like what you think I be -
That there's a blue cucumber! MILITARY:
Point against cavalry! PRACTICAL: Why not
A lottery with this for the grand prize?
Or - parodying Faustus in the play -
"Was this the nose that launched a thousand ships
And burned the topless towers of Ilium?"
These, my dear sir, are things you might have said
Had you some tinge of letters, or of wit
To color your discourse. But wit, - not so,
You never had an atom - and of letters,
You need but three to write you down...
Moreover, - if you had the invention, here
Before these folk to make a jest of me -
Be sure you would not then articulate
The twentieth part of half a syllable
Of the beginning! For I say these things
Lightly enough myself, about myself,
But I allow none else to utter them.
Yes. Enough said. Cyrano de Bergerac is amazing.
Oooo. Now I'm excited to read Sword In The Stars!!! If it's even half as good as any of his other books, we're in for a real treat (though I personally think every book Mr. Batson writes is better than the last).
Has anyone ever read The Chronicles Of Brothers by Wendy Alec? (The Fall of Lucifer & Messiah -- The First Judgement) Although they're probably the most "wordy" books I've ever read in my entire life and I could only read maybe 25 pages at a time, they're really good books. Definitely interesting books, though they are somewhat "mature" books. (On par with Ted Dekker.)

Alright, so would y'all like the answers to the two LOTR questions about the dragons in Gondor and the White Tree? Well, I shall post them here, if you don't want to read it, you're welcome to keep guessing!
The White Tree of Gondor died with the passing of Belecthor II, the twenty first steward of Gondor.
And as for the dragons in Gondor question (really wasn't a fair question, I'll admit). That refers to a conversation between Gandalf and Pippin while on their way to Minas Tirith. Pippin sees something red glowing a long way off and asks Gandalf if there are dragons in the land. To which Gandalf does not directly reply but encourages Shadowfax onwards, telling Pippin that what he sees are the beacons of Gondor calling for aid.
So, yes, the last one was somewhat of a trick question.
Alright, here's a question: What was "one of the last notes in the Red book?" (Hint: this refers to a specific sentence, so you are welcome to look it up!)
Well, enough LOTR for the night! Haha, I'm afraid this is not an extremely "meaningful" comment, but I'm too tired to think of anything else right now. It's been a long FULL day! So, good night all (and by good night, I mean that I'll go and write a little more and then read a bit and eventually fall asleep!)
Late comments (again). I've been studying for my Final Exam coming up this Monday. >_< LOL.
@ Jake - Ah, okay --thanks for the info. I totally agree about the titles being intriguing and the cover being "blah." LOL, I guess that's what I was going to say, if it wasn't by Wayne Thomas Batson and I saw the book in Border's or some other book store, I wouldn't be attracted to it at all (even though I love fantasy). It doesn't fit with the description/summary much. In fact, my first reaction to seeing the playing card was that it looks similar to the "tarot cards" books I've seen (the "religious fiction" section is near the "occult" stuff in my local Border's store : /) these books deserve a much better cover. But as I mentioned earlier, this may just be an early cover since we haven't seen any "official" announcement by either Mr. Batson or AMG publishers. Amazon.com is notorious for posting early book covers and stuff. (@ Timothy Wallace - Good point, but still, if you had just seen that cover at a bookstore [and didn't see the author's name] would you pick it up? Would you think "fantasy"? I'm hoping I warm up to it . . . if it is the final cover). ; )
@ Eldra - I love seeing the Star Wars Japanese covers --a lot of times they are so much nicer than the American ones --I've heard that's because since the Japanese books are often release a year or so after it was published in the U.S., the artist has a chance to access the book in its completed form and that way they can depict scenes from the book regularly. If your looking for high resolution pictures, there are a lot of Japanese cover scans on this site: http://theforce.net/books/bookcovers/jpn_covers.asp
Favorite Ted Dekker book? Ooh . . . I've only read the "Circle Series" books ("Other Earth") so, although I love "The Lost Books" --I haven't read the last two in the series, so for now, I'd say the "Circle Trilogy."
@ Archer - No problem! : ) "Green" as a sequel was really disappointing to me . . . I guess it could be because I enjoyed the "Circle Trilogy" so much, but it was really a let down IMHO. But you should read it and see . . . maybe you'll like it --I've heard that quiet a few people enjoyed the aspect that I hated. I won't say anymore because of spoilers. : D
@ Sar-Dreamer - I just read your blog post about your rejection notice . . . I'm glad it wasn't such a horrible experience --I'm sure you know not to get discouraged, there are many published authors who got tons of rejection notices before their "big break." . . . All in God's timing. : )
@ Gillian - Cool! I hope you have an awesome time helping at a camp too. : D
@ Jolayne - Thanks for the heads up . . . I know what you mean, the past couple of years, our Awana camp shared the camp gounds with some other camp run by the YMCA group there and I saw stuff like that. Our camp is staffed by Awana leaders from the different churches in our state and all the years I've participated as a camper, I've never had to run into counselors like that (and hopefully we never will). : )
P.S. - I love your name, it's so pretty! Can I ask you what it means? I'm sort of interested in anthroponomastics (especially of first names). : D
i love this quote
Experience keeps a dear school, but fools will learn in no other.
Benjamin Franklin
Jake: Yes I could never exactly figure out if it was Saurumon or not. The last time I read it, I took it to be him.
WOW Gillian: I would have never got the answers correct for those 2 questions. You are just too good at LOTR:) So I have a question to ask you. I remember it mentioning that Legolas had brown hair. I just can't find where it mentioned it. Can you help me out?
Mr. Batson, I can't WAIT until "Sword in the Stars" comes out!!! The cover is soo interesting and intriguing it makes me want to read it all the more!!
I just finished reading "The Bones of Makaidos" by Bryan Davis!! It's got to be one of favs! Very powerful! I can't wait to meet him when he comes near where I live on his tour!! :) (PS Mr. Batson, r u doing a tour anytime soon?)
I also saw "How to Train your Dragon" yesterday and thought it was hilarious!! Here's one of my favorite lines:
"You have to stop all this!"
"You just pointed to all of me."
"Exactly!"

Don't tell me I'm too late!!!!
NO!!! *weep*
...
Oh, it's not done yet? Uh, forget that ever happened...
Gillian; Arg.... I should've known the answer was that... Actually, I had no idea, but "this little thing called 'pride' of mine" (Cyrano quote!) told me not to look it up. I give up. :) Oh, yes, Cyrano is AWESOME!!! Seriously. I love his eloquence, but my sister (after watching a bit) thought it was boring... My youngest sister, though, laughed the whole way through the beginning.
Okay, I have a lot of blogs to check, and websites, and blogging, and... Well, let's say I'm busy... Check back later!
Sefir; An intriguing word... That I've never heard of.
I can't believe how many comments there are! Wow. Almost to 1000! I wonder who will write the 1000th comment.
Well, Elizabeth, I'm afraid I have to admit it. I do not know the answer to that. You're right, it sounds familiar, but I don't know where to find it! Haha. Sorry!
So, I've managed to edit out nearly 1000 words from the C.S. Lewis short story contest. Only about 130 more to go... only what to cut out! That is the question!
There are so many books that I want to read right now... only I can't afford them all and our library is surprisingly pitiful! It does not have a single one of the books that I want to read! I suppose I shall just have to be patient. In the words of Inigo Montoya "I hate waiting!"
John 21:25 "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written."
Doesn't that verse make you wish that it had all been written down, so that we could read it? And yet, every second the supply of books would grow larger and larger as Jesus continues His work in and around us! It's amazing. I wonder if there will be a library in heaven full of books which tell of the marvelous deeds of God! Sit there and think about all that God does in your life... all the things you take for granted.. the little gifts from Him! Truly we are too often a very selfish ungrateful people!
Elizabeth Anonymous; Yep. I LOVE the Bones of Makaidos.
Uh, I am the last person commenting, but I think I'll say this; Is there going to be another Tribe contest for V&S? If so, how do I join? I followed the other contest for the end, but I never joined. How exactly do you join? And how do you win? I'm a little sketchy on the details... And when does the next contest start? I've gotten to know (at least through the internet!) a bunch of people through this 'minor' contest, so maybe the same will happen for a 'major' contest. Not to mob you guys with questions!
See ya (er, read ya) all later! Never alone, Endurance and Victory, and all that!
:)
We have been discussing recently in my college Psychology class about how society effects our behavior to treat the environment the way we do now. If everyone on the planet lived like an average person in a large country (like the United States) we would need multiple planets worth of resources just to sustain our current population.
God created our wonderful Earth, so remember to do your best to help take care of it! Anything as simple as turning off a light you're using or recycling an extra piece of unneeded paper can help! Remember to do your part in taking care of our environment :)
Whoa. The commenting has really died off here the past several days. Where is everyone? Are you all sick too? Just kidding! Actually, I'm finally getting over this cold I've had for a week and a half now. *sigh* Being sick is so not fun.
On a happy note, Lady Carliss and the Waters of Moorue (Chuck Black) finally came in!!! I picked it up this afternoon and as of this evening, I'm more than halfway through. A word of caution: I wouldn't recommend reading this book unless you've read his other books, since this one ties directly into Sir Dalton And The Shadow Heart. And the reason that I'm only halfway through. . . I also got Bringer Of Storms by L. B. Graham. (I've been waiting for that book for at least two weeks now) Totally loving it.
Okay, I've blabbered enough.
~Never Alone~
Wow... Wayne has already written so many books! And now I find out about this new one, apparently being published by AMG. How does he ever manage to do it?! He must be working on at least three projects at the same time... wow!
Well, got another rejection today... but sent three more queries! I'm so excited about this, honestly, I just can't stop smiling when I think about it! Except that I'm tired right now, so exclamation points will have to do the smiling for me. :)
But I will post my hook for my query, just because I rewrote it (for at least the 6th time). But I think it's done at last, so here it is:
King Morven has decreed that anyone believing in the spiritual entity of Anahdor must be put to death.
Young Curron has never held a sword in his hands, nor wielded a knife: he’s never ridden a horse into battle: he’s never even left Fort Gallant before. But when the legendary Elders of Anahdor send an urgent summoning to him via Alayïa’s most fabled messenger, Curron soon finds himself in the middle of a plan to confront Morven and bring down the law against those who believe in Anahdor. Entrusted with an ancient and mystical stone called the Daystar and sent as an undercover emissary to the king, Curron soon discovers that the hardest task of a true hero isn’t in defeating slavers, negotiating with bandits, riding talking ponies, or even in fighting for what you believe in: the hardest task is in setting aside one’s own misgivings and putting all trust in Anahdor. Only then can he unlock the mystery behind the Daystar’s strange song and find the courage he’ll need to save the lives of the Elders… and his own.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your encouragement about my book. I haven't been able to read some of the comments because my computer's been on the fritz, but I just read some of them now and thank you.
Patrick: It took me four years to write and polish "Song of the Daystar" to date. I don't know if AMG has turned it down yet... they just haven't gotten back to me about it at the moment. But it's common for agencies and publishers to take thier time; I just sent a query to an agent who might not get back to me for 4-6 months! Now that was scarry... but it's ok. I know in my heart that God told me this was my year to get going with this so I'll keep my eyes open, keep trying, and keep praying.
Mr. Batson: How long DID it take you to get an agent? any stories you'd be willing to share? *eyebrow wiggle.*
Jake you are really funny!
Ok quote for the day.....will come from National Treasure because I feel really funny this morning.
" Your dad has a nice ride........Are we there?........ I'm hungry.......This car smells funny..." :)

i <3 this quote
Has a migrane...stupid weather change:(
Anyway just thought I would share this. Author Eric Reinhold's book "Ryann Watters and the King's Sword" is being made into a movie!! They are having auditions for it and the nice thing is, if you live out of state you can still do them! If you want more info go to www.kingssword.com. I am reading his book now and it's really cool!
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
Lady Dragonkeeper,
Thanks, i like my name too. it is a mix of my grandmothers names, Alayne, and Joshiphine. so together it equals Jolayne. Josiphine means God will increase, and i'm not sure what Alayne means.
Sorry this is so short,

I really like the quote 'Why Study':
The more you study, the more you know,
The more you know, the more you forget,
The more you forget, the less you know,
The less you know, the less you forget,
The less you forget, the more you know,
So why study?
Wow... I can't believe that this thing is still going! HAHA! You really started something, Mr. Batson! :)
Well, I am terribly excited because I now have a POOL!!!!!!!! I have been teaching my five year old bro how to do canonballs off of the diving board. He LOVES it!
God bless!
~Katie G.
Hey guys! I've been totally procrastinating! I can't believe summer is only a few weeks away...
Anyway, I was wondering if you guys had any tips on procrastinating. I want to write a quick short story daily about an event that day. But, I'm having a hard time with discipline. what do you gusy think?
Here's one little quote: "If evolution were true, mothers would have more than two hands"
Gillian: In addition to Tolkien, who are some of your other favorite authors?
Star-Dreamer: Great blog post on queries; very informative. Will "Song of Daystar" a stand-alone tale or part of a trilogy or series?
Eldra: the battle sequences (especially lightsaber duels) and the scenes that stir deep emotions are indeed some of the best in the Star Wars saga. The final duel in Return of the Jedi is one of the best; likewise, Revenge of the Sith invokes such powerful imagery as well with the unleashing of Order 66 and watching the great Jedi masters one by one be overwhelmed, the assault on the Jedi temple, and ultimately the tragic scene between Anakin and Padme on Mustafar, followed by Anakin and Obi-Wan's duel, and Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader. Not to mention that all the films possess a lot of powerful scenes.
When I was looking through my bible yesterday I found these verses and it just seemed to pop out at me.
"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect, that you may be perfect and complete lacking nothing." James 1: 2-4
I thought that this went with The Door Within.
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
We just 'discovered' a band called Burlap to Cashmere. It's an aquired taste...
daughteroflight
BTW, I asked about adoption because we just celibrated (or however you spell that- my mind went blank) my youngest brother's first birthday, and we adopted him almost a year ago!! Even though I'm quite a few years older than him, I still enjoy him!!!
Go everyone who has adopted brothers and sisters (or are adopted themselves...)
daugheroflight
"The cross of Christ is the true ground and chief cause of Christian hope."
—Leo the Great (400-461)
Here is an awesome verse:
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."
Let's see . . . we had our last meeting for our local Awana club last night, so that's why I haven't posted in awhile --the awards banquet is next Friday. Anyway, since Mr. Batson hasn't approved a lot of comments today, I can't really respond to a lot, so I'll just leave you all with a quote (wow, I'm doing the suggested comment ideas for once, LOL). "The nice thing about being an adolescent is being able to make mature decisions when you need them and being able to just flow along with life when you don't." ~ Jaina Solo, "Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Dark Tide II: Ruin" by Michael Stackpole. (The quote isn't exactly true, but I still like it for some reason). = )
@ Anonymous Elizabeth - Nice! I loved (mostly) "The Bones of Makaidos" . . . it was such a satisfying end to the series, yet also had a hint of a future series (which it seems we'll be getting in a couple of years).
@ Nisly_Family - There probably is some limit, but I seem to remember seeing blog comments in the 1000's . . . but I'm not sure if it was on Blogger.
@ Jake - ROFL! Sorry, that's dramatics my little brother would do . . . : D
Gillian! First, I think that a title should reflect something really important in the book. Kinda like a secret hint, so that when the book's over, people are like, "Oh! I get now!"
Secondly, that is the most amazing thing I've ever heard of! So weird! My class is reading Cyrano, and we're acting out the play this Friday!! I'm in Act V, when he... well, spoilers.
My favorite part is in Act II, where Christian insults Cyrano ten times and totally gets away with it! =D And the duel in Act I, where he fences the guy while creating a poem. Awesome! I have my lit book with me for quotes. =)
I just want to say Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!! You really are the best!!! :)
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
I think it may have ended... I hope not! now for a quote:
"You have the wonderful gift of silence, Watson. It makes you invaluable as a companion."
it's from Sherlock Holmes. amazing movie...
daughteroflight - I love Burlap To Cashmere!! My favorite song is "Anybody Out There?" For a time, I would listen to it every single night before I went to bed.
Happy Mothers' Day!!!! Personally, I think mothers are greatly under appreciated. They do everything and more for us as kids and we tend to overlook or completely ignore it. Let's challenge ourselves and look for more ways to help our moms out. They more than deserve it.
~Never Alone~
Haha, and here I thought the comments were slowing down. I suppose there are too many determined people on here for that to happen!
Patrick, well, I like Tolkien, of course. C.S. Lewis, Wayne Thomas Batson, Jonathan Rogers, Mark Twain, Andrew Peterson... I'm afraid this list could go on for quite a while. Generally, (unless it's Tolkien or Lewis) I prefer individual books rather than a specific author... like I like certain Redwall books, and I like certain books by other authors, but I don't necessarily always love that author. I don't try to compile a favorite books list anymore because it's just too long!
Well, I'm supposed to be writing another Narnia blog post for my own blog right now... but I'm pretty tired (long day) so we shall see. It may just have to wait until tomorrow! :)
@ Jolayne - Cool! A "combination name." : ) I was curious, so according to this website: http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Alayne.html Alayne is Gaelic meaning "rock" or an American version of the French name Alaine. :)
@ Anonymous Elizabeth - Ditto that! Happy Mother's Day!
@ Matthew - Is that quote from the new (2009) Sherlock Holmes movie? I just saw that at a friend's going away party --it was pretty good, I thought there were a couple "didn't have to be there" scenes, but it was a nice mystery. The actors who played Holmes and Dr. Watson were hilarious together. I still need to read the actual books someday, LOL.
Tomorrow's my final exams (all in one day), so I'm hoping I do well . . . gotta go back to studying. : )
haha Jake I was just about to ask the same questions about how to get into a tribe! I will be sad when this contest is over cause it seems like we really all know each other!
Star-Dreamer: yep just keep plugging away! From what I read I KNOW you can do it! I love that summary too! When you get published I totally will buy your book:):):) OOOH yes Mr. Batson!! I would LOVE stories about how long it took you to get published etc!! I know it takes FOREVER sometimes!
mermaidgirl: I did a talk on how not to procrastinate last year and I can give you some tips. I know at this time of year I have a tendacy to read books like crazy! I really have to not read right now because I have exams in 2 weeks! Some tips I can give you are: To start studying more than just the day before a test. Work for about and hour to 2 hours and then take a break for about 15 to 20 minutes. I would not recommend reading a book or watching something for your break because you will loose track of your time and then not get stuff done. A good way to take a break is to exercise. If you want motivation for anything a good thing to do is listen to music. I do this even when I am writing to get ideas. Also if you have nothing to do...do that thing that you have been putting off! And just try to tell yourself....especially when you have big project....that YOU CAN DO IT!!! And start on it as soon as you can! I hope that helps!
Ok I have a question... Who is this character Cyrano? Is he a character in a play? If so what play? Sorry i am very interested in reading it!
Quote of the day for all of the people who have a hard time with procrastination or want to get their book published or are having trouble getting anything done:
"YOU CAN DO IT!!"
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
WOW! The thread still lives! Die, evil thread, die!
Oh, this thread isn't going to die, Mr. Batson. We'll make sure of that!!
Does anyone else have construction going on right behind their house? The highway behind ours is being expanded from two lanes to four. And the machines are LOUD!!!!! And they start around SIX IN THE MORNING!!! (Guess who hasn't gotten enough sleep?)
~Never Alone~
16 comments less than 1000. . . and the thread still lives!
Well, I just want to say that God is AWESOME!!!!! He's been busy in my life doing the kinds of things that only His amazing self can do!! :) Let me name them off to you:
1-God completely turned me around with this Tom Sawyer play, and told me "no, I want you to do it". (Love it when He does that!)
2-On top of God telling me that He really did want me to be in this play, and that I WOULD be able to learn a lot after all, I've now been asked by the director to be assistant manager as well as do my part!!! :D (EXTREMELY excited about that!!!!!! Since I also want to direct as well as act when I'm older.)
And 3- God is completely providing in over and above my expectations for this short film that I'm making! Not only am I confident that God will provide the money needed, but also He's providing me with really talented people to play the parts, and fill out the crew. :) And to think I had started with it just involving 5 people–the number needed for actors.
The song "Never Underestimate My Jesus" by Relient K is extremely fitting for my life these past few weeks. So I think I'll end my post with the chorus, and I dearly hope that this will encourage you in your own life and walk with Christ–
"Never underestimate my Jesus
your tellin me that there's no hope
Im tellin you your wrong
Never underestimate my Jesus
when the world around you crumbles
He will be strong he will be strong."
~ElizabethMarieKauffman~
Almost to 1000!!! Hey, WTB, you're back! Nice to 'read' ya. :D
I still hold the title of 'having read all the comments'... Though some other people might have, too.
Umm, here's a quote from a song I really love, since I can't think of anything to say...
"Where you come when you're broken within,
The light meets the dark." -Healing Begins
I get chills when I hear that last phrase...
I have a segmented short story being posted daily at my blog, so if you want, you can check it out...
Someone let me win, please!!! :D I've kind of lost the objective in all this... :) But I have regained it! ... The sight of the goal, I mean. I haven't won. Yet. :D
I so agree with you, Mr. B! Die Thread! *goes into a dramatic fit of gagging*
Anyway,
Patrick: "Song of the Daystar" could be a stand alone, I think, but I'm already planning a sequel and thinking about a prequil. I just can't help it! Once I start developing a world, it's so hard to just leave it all when one book is finished. I think that's why writers like writing series and trilogies.
Oh, I found out something really cool last night. *Does a little dance*
A few months ago I went to goodwill and found the second book in Bryan Davis' "Echoes from the Edge" series. At the time I hadn't read any of his books so I decided to buy it and see if it was any good. Well, I still haven't read it yet, but I've read some of his other once. Anyway, Last night I opened the book to start reading and there on the cover page was his name!
I HAD PICKED UP A SIGNED COPY OF THE BOOK AT A GOODWILL AND DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT UNTIL LAST NIGHT!
Now that was exciting.
On another note, I've just entered a writing contest on WD. Check out my blog for more details... and then wish me luck!
first of all this thing will take 4EVER!!! and second does anyone know how to write stuff that isnt meaningless?!?!?!? ok well her is somthing that might be meaningful
Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth.
George Washington
Eldra- I like that song too! That's the only CD of them that we have, and I really like it.
What did you all think of the DIOM series by Brian Davis? I've only read the 1st and 2nd one so far, but I want to read the other two- I just don't exactly like the way Bonnie acts at times...
daughteroflight
I just said something then the internet went out. I hope it got through.
daughteroflight
we will never let the thread die mr. batson we want the book :)
my favorite quote:
"There are so many benefits to be derived from space exploration and exploitation; why not take what seems to me the only chance of escaping what is otherwise the sure destruction of all that humanity has struggled to achieve for 50,000 years?"
Isaac Asimov, speech at Rutgers University
Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth.
George Washington
PPL START COMENTING ON THINGS I MIGHT WANT TO READ!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH
I think I will make this easier and stop checking this post and remove myself from the contest. Good luck to everyone else.
Excerpt from one of my short stories:
Cold metal pressed against my temple.
I swallowed. They’d come at last. At night, no less. Were they so aware that their deeds were wrong that they came under cover of darkness, or was this just the standard proceeding for arresting a free-thinker who isn’t afraid to take a stand on what they believe?
Out of my peripheral vision, I eyed the gun pressed to my forehead. Exactly why the government thought I was so volatile that they had to menace me with weapons, I don’t know. Was I really making so much progress that I was considered a threat, or did they think I’d fight back?
I bit back a smirk. If they knew anything about me, they should know that, though I stood up for what I believed in, I protested peacefully. I had never resorted to violence, nor was I a law breaker. Though unsatisfied with the government, I stayed within the bounds of the law at all times. I never even exceeded the speed limit, for goodness sake! Owning firearms was forbidden, so they shouldn’t have anything to fear from that quarter. Were they going with the saying that ‘when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns’? Hah. I wasn’t an outlaw.
At least not yet. I might be, in a few more moments.
Yes, Mr. Batson, I cannot believe that this thread lives yet! After all, we have stabbed at it nearly 1000 times! lol
Elizabeth: Yes, Cyrano is a character in a play. In fact, it's named after him: Cyrano de Bergerac. And it's the most amazing play you can ever read! Oh my goodness! I love it so much. It's been made into a movie as well, but I have never seen it so I cannot give you any information on that.
But, if you like the wit and brilliance of the Princess Bride and the courage and bravery of the Three Musketeers, then you will love Cyrano de Bergerac!
So, I managed to write my blog post at last... long as usual, but I managed to finish it! Haha, why I've just had a clever idea... I should write shorter blog post so I can post them more frequently! But, I'm afraid there is always so much that I want to say! I pity my poor readers though.
Well, my bed summons me. Good night all! I hope you have had a great day and pray that we all may serve the Lord!
I have a huge praise! I finished all my Final Exams today, and thanks to God, I feel so confident that I've done well enough to get "A's" in the classes I was worried about, so I just wanted to update those of you who were so encouraging when I mentioned it here last month (yes, last month, this thread is still going on, LOL). So now that my summer break has started, I'm going to clean my room and desk --spring cleaning in the summer . . . hahaha.
Have a good day everyone!
Of course it still lives Mr. Batson!! We're all like to chat too much about LOTR and Door Within that we don't ever want to stop! :) I personally think you should go back to my idea, where you give everyone who participated the book, but you don't have to:)
Here's my quote: (it's one i made up. lol I do that a lot:)
"A smile is worth a thousand words...especially when you are feeling down."
Elizabeth:)
Never Alone!!
"To know the Word of God, to live the Word of God, to preach the Word, to teach the Word, is the sum of all wisdom, the heart of all Christian service."

just a quote until I'll have time for a longer post tonight : )
YEAH!!!! WE'VE REACHING 1000 COMMENTS!!!! Hard to believe we've been posting for this long!!! And we haven't run out of topics yet!
~Never Alone~
Celebrilomiel - Sweet excerpt!! You really have me curious as to what's going to happen next!
~Never Alone~
Whose comment will be the 1000th??? :D There's 999 right now...
daughteroflight; DIOM is awesome!!! And Oracles of Fire, the sequel series, is even better, especially the last book, the Bones of Makaidos.
Celebromiel (maybe I spelled it wrong, sorry in advance); Awesome excerpt! I love it.
Gillian; Your poor readers? I'm one of those 'poor' readers, and I personally love the long posts. :D
Here's a random thought;
The Word Reclaimed (by Steve Rzasa) is AWESOME!!! I wrote a review on it on my blog (and on Amazon) some time ago, and I had practically NO quibbles with it.
Now, let's see if I'm number 1000! :D
