Comments on the Post Article

If you haven't heard about the Washington Post article and about my appearance on Fox News this Friday morning, see the previous post.

But, if you get a chance, go on over to the Post Article and read some of the comments. The Jesus-haters have literally had a field day. Please consider leaving a comment of your own there so that we can have some Christian reason on the site. But, whatever you do, don't get into a "flame" war. Just state your thoughts respectfully.

Here's the site:

You'll need to get to the end of the article to leave a comment. Thanks.

I just entered my comment. sometimes I get a bit carried away. Maybe if enough put in some countering comments maybe some will go and pick up The Door Within. I sure hope so. This week has really been amazing. I will be watching Friday morning, and I will tape it, and show it to some friends. Who hopefully will be interested in the genre. I wish you the best of luck Friday, don't let Satan bring you down, keep strong! I am rooting for you! This is such a great potential to spread the word of Christian fantasy. God Bless! Never Alone!

I put my comment in!
but I really don't like it when people who advocate for freedom of speech and things like that, then turn around and tell Christians that they shouldn't go around talking 'bout their religion...
What happened to the free speech they were just utilizing?

so true, roheryn!

I haven't put a comment in, yet. I need to think about what I'll say, first.

I commented. Left a miniature article for them to muse over.

It hurts to read hate posts like that. But...if you look back over the history of Christianity, I see how they have cause to call us closed minded. The Crusades were a bloodbath, all in the name of Christ. The Inquisition. Christians, by the sins of our predecessors, are viewed now by the world through glass tinted scarlet. All we can do is show them the true character of Christ. Through love.

For the one who does not love cannot know God, for God is love.

In Yesha's Name,
Holli

I've been wondering something for quite a while. I read both "The Door Within" and "Harry Potter", but I don't understand what makes either of them more christian, other than the obvious.

Mr. Batson, the subtlty to which you weave your faith into your delightful books are impressive, but after reading this article I have a question.

In Harry Potter, magic is used. This article says that Christian families might be against this because the Bible says that magic is forbidden.

However, in "The Door Within", many men are killed by the good guys, the people fighting for King Eliam. But the Bible also says "Thou shalt not kill."

I don't mean at all to put you down, but I'm just curious as to why Christian familes would except one if they don't except the other.

PS: Darn, the tour went so fast, I wanted to catch you in NY. I should've taken time off.

Congrats Wayne! Haven't read the books yet, but I will get there soon enough. Hats off to the tour, it looks like it was a great success at getting Christian fiction in the public arena. Is there someone at your publisher I can contact to thank for helping to put this together?

Peace and God bless,

Good point PatsHand, here's some thoughts to chew on bout that question.

Thou shall not kill is better translated from the original Hebrew as ''thou shall not murder''

Does God hate death? Yes. Does He hate killing? Yes. But there are times when for the sake of the perishing, for the defense of family and home, that battle and war takes place and God does not say "Stand and do nothing." We are to protect our families, to defend the weak with force if necessary, and to fight to the death when necessary. David and Joshua as well as Caleb are examples of men that the Lord loved and blessed and they were all men of war.

In the New Testament the healing of the Centurion's servant and Peter being sent to the Centurion who was seeking to know more of the Lord are examples that military men are not shunned by God.

Final thought: One of the titles of the Lord Himself is a military title. "Lord of Hosts"

The article was in the Philadelphia Inquirer today. I was reading the magazine section and I went "Oh cool it's the same article as in the Washington Post" That article kinda irked me a bit, my mom agreed that why whenever they do articles about Christian fantasy, must they bring up Harry Potter. Granted my whole family loves Harry Potter, and we all will gather at the Jersey shore, and will talk hours on hours about it. I understand the reasons why some people do not like Harry Potter, I respect those people's views and never question them at all about it. But why does the media have to change a simple article about Christian fantasy into an article talking of how the genre exists for those who hate Harry Potter. Sorry, I'm just annoyed how the media must always bring up controversial stuff like that to get people to read the article. I wish the article was talking more about how Christian fantasy, and less on how it is an alternative to Harry Potter. I also wish they talked more about the tour and about the other authors. Well at least the genre had a mention in a major newspaper, and it is truly amazing, even if the article is a bit flawed. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck tomorrow Mr. Batson! I truly have faith that God will truly help you to say what needs to be said. I really enjoyed the tour. Best book signing I've ever been to. I hope others will share in the magic of the Door Within. Who knows maybe some will also venture into the White Lion Chronicles or discover Dragons in our Midst, or The Restorer after jumping into the last of the Harry Potter books. My mom read the article and she wants to read your books now! My one nonchristian friend even said that the Door Within sounds really cool, and she is begging me to loan her the first book! Good luck! God Bless! Never Alone!
P.S.-I can't wait for Isle of Swords, it looks like a great read to finish off this awesome summer!

Wow! What an insane thread. I left a comment today -- didn't think to do it yesterday when I first read the article. And they think Christians are intolerant. Yikes!

Unknown said...

I know isn't it pretty insane!

Wayne, I'm praying that the Lord will give you clarity of thought tomorrow morning, and a good night's rest tonight. You're doing a good thing man.

See you at 6:15.

Wayne, be on guard on FOX. Don't let them swerve you off on some tangent about the bible being fantasy or anything. Christ used parables (allegory) just as Christian writers use allegory to convey truth. Pray much before you go on and we're praying for you!

I just posted a commment :) JF, you DID leave a novel! Ha! Too bad I don't have time to read it right now.
