Kill this Thread and Win Venom and Song

Have you ever played "Kill this Thread?" You say you're against all forms of killing? I SO agree…uh, except for this game. Uh, and except for when I find a spider on my bathroom floor. Okay, back on topic.

Kill this thread works like this:

1. Comment on this post.

2. Be the last person to post a comment before the thread "Dies."

How does the thread die? Easy, all that has to happen is for NO ONE to post a comment for one single day. Every time you post a comment, you prolong the thread's life 24 more hours and put yourself in the potential winner's seat!

So, say Biff posts a comment at 3pm today. If no one posts another comment by 3pm tomorrow, then Biff wins the prize. But, if Zelda posts a comment at 2:59pm tomorrow, BOOM, the thread lives on 24 more hours.

Now I've seen this done a number of ways, but one thing I hate is that the comments posted are too quick and very boring. So I'm adding one more REQUIREMENT:

3. Make your comment something meaningful. Give us one of your favorite quotes. Tell us why you like it. Give us something from God's word to munch on. Talk about your hopes and dreams. Encourage someone you care about. Talk about a new band you "discovered." Tell people why they should buy my books--you know, anything meaningful like that! :-D

Oh, and what's the prize? How about a PreRelease Advanced Reader Copy of Book 2 of the Berinfell Prophecies series: Venom and Song--autographed by BOTH authors (CH and Me!)

Sound good?

Post away! Kill this Thread!

@ Patrick - TCM is great, isn't it? =) I don't remember a lot of the titles of the movies I've seen on there, but I'll watch whatever is on there if I have time. I don't seek out (though I'll sometimes watch if my Dad's watching it) the Western and Military types of movies they always seem to show on weekends (or is that AMC I'm thinking of?) =) "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" is a great movie! I agree that it seems like the caliber of the actors was much higher back then (or at least, there were more better actors then . . . there are some good actors today, but they're harder to find). One thing I do enjoy about today's movies are better special effects and such (e.g. compare Walden Media's "Narnia" movies compared to the BBC's version --granted, I'm sure that the BBC miniseries had a smaller budget . . . but still, the degree of realisticality in special effects is much higher now than it was 10-20 years ago).

I've never read any of Mr. Lawhead's books . . . I've just heard about them. The medieval aspect appealed to me, but I wasn't sure about the content . . . Some places list it as Christian Fantasy and others don't . . . but I've pretty much always heard good things about his books.

finished reading v&s. didn't like the ending, or the price that was paid, those of you who've read it should know what i mean. i'm wondering how it will work out for the next book. i was very sad all morning because of it, but life goes on. i'm not doing this to win venom and song, but i've gotten used to communicating with all of you, and it makes me sad to think that other than a few conversations over the enternet we will probably never see or hear from each other on earth, but we can still pray, and i am looking forward to seeing you guys and girls when we are in heaven, if not before that.

Our aim in studying the Godhead must be to know God himself better. Our concern must be to enlarge our acquaintance, not simply with the doctrines of God's attributes, but with the living God whose attributes they are. As he is the subject of our study, and our helper in it, so he must himself be the end of it. We must seek, in studying God, to be led to God." J.I. Packer, Knowing God

Has anyone heard if there's going to be an Amazon blitz for Mr. Batson's first Dark Sea Annals book?

Dark Sea Annals Book 1: Sword In The Stars

From what Mr. Batson's posted on his blog over the course of writing it, it sounds like its going to be an awesome series!

my mom just ask me why i am still trying to win the book now that i've finished it, i told her that i'm not trying to win it, but i've gotten so used to talking to all of you that i don't want to stop. i hope you guys have a good last few weeks for summer vaction.

PS. i think that i already commented on this, but i thought that the ending of V&S was quite sad and depressing, i'm wondering how it is going to effect the next book.

We get back home sometime tomorrow! I'm so excited! I miss my family and I haven't really had a chance to write in over two weeks... it's been fun and all, but this lack of writing has just about driven me insane! I'll be starting to post again in a few days. Wish me luck on my last test. It's tomorrow. I hope I pass.

Sorry I was out for so long, I kinda forgot to post. =)

Also, how do you win? 24 hours, right? But, from the last published post? Because someone may have posted 24 or more hours after someone, but because it wasn't approved yet, no one may have noticed? What do you guys think?

RED~Scribe said...

Mermaidgirl45 - Yeah, it's been more than a week and I'm still kinda sore. And, sadly, we didn't go to Rock The River. Actually, it was okay, because TFK didn't even play. Trevor hurt his throat so they've had to cancel a couple of shows.

Speaking of TFK, if you go onto their MySpace page and click on photos, my sister's painting is in one of the folders! (Don't remember which one, but I think it's fairly recent.) Now that's cool!

i've been thinking a lot about a lot of stuff, but lets start with this. there is a family that i babysit and the older two kids (going into grade 4 and grade 6) feel more like my friends than my charges. we are able to have deep conversations about God and life that i can't even have with my youth group which is kinda sad. i started thinking how erilivent age is when it comes to eternity and am realizing that most of my friends are either really old or really young, i don't seem to fit in with my age group.

PS. Now that i've got over being sad about the ending of V&S i'm really looking forward to the next book. Don't get me wrong, it's not that the ending is bad, it's just something i haden't expected, and i tend to conect with the characters in books. i won't give anything else away.

RED~Scribe said...

Hmmm. From what everyone seems to be saying about V&S, I'm assuming something "not-so-good" happens at the end. Guess I'll have to wait until I read the book to figure out what it is!

Eldra - Sorry you're sore. =) Feel better! And, awesome about your sister's artwork though! Tell her Congrats! from me. =)

First day of school tomorrow!! So excited! So nervous!

Also, I'm performing on field for the first time in my first game for color guard! I've never even been to a football game, so I'm crazy nervous. This is just a really interesting week. Guys, please pray for me, I'm falling apart. =)

Jolayne - Wow! You've already finished? That's so awesome! =D

And, I know what you mean about age. Have you read the Do Hard Things books? =)

Eldra, I've come to the same conclusion! Please guys, NO SPOILERS! I'm guessing it's something bad, but will there be a third book? I thought there were only going to be two. =)

Archer, ouch!! Are you okay? That's normally kinda serious, right? I mean, horses are huge and strong and powerful. Feel better, okay?

Also, you're lucky! It'll probably be at three months before my library gets Venom and Song, but I want to put it on the Request list. Not sure, but I'm going to keep checking.

Matthew, we can definitely do that. I hope it works out okay. =) And, also that's great that you and your dad are reading that together. That must be an awesome bonding-thing. I wish my mom and I could do that, but we're both so busy. . .

First day of school today!!! Woohoo!!! It was amazing!! Loved every class, and then had a two and a half hour Color Guard practice.

I have my first game this Friday, and, guys, I'm really excited. We cut out some stuff, so we're doing this one routine that we all know really well. It's a swing flag routine to Michael Bublé's "I Haven't Met You Yet." It's awesome. I wish you guys could all come and see it. =) Maybe I can send a YouTube link! =D I'm so crazy excited. It's probably one of God's biggest blessings to me thus far in my life, and I'm so grateful.

Anyway, I hope everyone's doing okay. =) Now that school's started, I might not be on that much, but I'll try to check it every day. =) This thing should definitely be over in a couple of weeks. I'm really depressed. =) We'll still have to stay in contact with each other. =) Or have another contest! But this has been fun. And, no matter who wins, whoever does will have definitely earned it if they have stuck this far. I mean, 1,627 comments? =)

You guys rock! I love you all! But never forget that God loves you more. We are salt and light, and it's really awesome, you know? I hope each one of you guys knows God. Really, I just realized that not everyone here may be a Christian. I'm sorry. That's my bad. You don't have to say anything, but everyone just know that if you ever have a question, we love you and want to help you, okay? =D Just something God laid on my heart. =)

Ha Guys,

Eldra; Well, I saw that Buck (the horses name) was starting to move his butt quickly to my right. Noticing this, I decided to walk away. So I turned in a tight circle and WHAM!! I get hit right in the upper part of my back, with what felt like a big wide hammer. Everything went by so fast in that momment, that all I waas thinking at the time was, something hit me, but I didn't see anything. Although I did see Buck move quickly, which made me cautious. So I walk strait to the top of the slite incline of the hill to the run-in, where my mom was. She told me that it looked like Buck had kicked me. We went back to the outer field where Buck was, to show that we weren't afraid of him. After that short momment I walked back to the fenced in area near the run-in, where my sister, Prophetes, was waiting. I sat there for a momment when all of a sudden all these waves of emotion ran through me. All I kep thinking was, if he had bin a little harder or had hit me a little lower my back could have been broken. I could have been hurt realy bad. Thank God that didn't happen. I was quite sore for about a week. So have you been working on your book anymore?

Matthew; I'll pray for your family. I've read Dragonspell through to Dragonfire, but I'm still waiting to read Dragonlight.

I can't remember who ask this but Cyberquest is realy good.

OOWW more news on sister#2.
She is having A........BOY!!!
So that means that last year when my niece and nephue were born it has swiched. My sister (sister#1) that had the boy last year is now having a girl and my other sister (sister#2) that had a girl last year is now having a boy. So by January our house will be a full house! I can't wait.

I'm working on a knitting project. I'm making a vest, a green V botton down with a bumpy blue and green mix trim. What do yal' think?

Well that's all for now,

"He that desires to read his Bible with profit, must first ask the Lord Jesus to open the eyes of his understanding by the Holy Spirit. Human commentaries are useful in their way. The help of good and learned men is not to be despised. But there is no commentary to be compared with the teaching of Christ. A humble and prayerful spirit will find a thousand things in the Bible, which the proud, self-conceited student will utterly fail to discern."

mermaidgirl45 - I'm pretty certain that there's going to be three books, but I'm not certain. And, yes, I do feel better, thank you!

Archer - Yikes! Good thing it wasn't any lower; you could have been paralyzed.
And as for my book. . . well, that's on temporary hold. I have more than enough ideas, I'm just not certain how I should put them together. Also, I've been having problems attempting to create a suitable opening. I think I've written at least six different openings over the past eight months, but none of them have worked. Yet.

Okay, this is seriously the best WV I've ever seen: graced.

I'm not even certain what to say.

Let us never forget that religious earnestness alone is no proof that a man is a sound Christian. Not all zeal is right–it may be a zeal without knowledge. No one is so mischievous as a blundering, ignorant zealot. Not all earnestness is trustworthy–without the leading of God’s Spirit, it may lead a man so far astray, that, like Saul, he will persecute Christ himself. Some bigots imagine they are doing God service, when they are actually fighting against His truth, and trampling on His people. Let us pray that we may have light as well as zeal.

Ha Guys;

My sister aka Prophetess just finished doing a portrat of me. It's for college, she had to do a portrat of someone and a portrat of someone from memory.

Anonymous; I actualy got kicked a year or two ago, but when I think of it it's still fresh in my mind. Although that doesn't stop me from seeing, brushing, or feeding those two horses.*lol* In fact ever since then Buck (the horse that kicked me) has had, well I don't think I would call it a new found respect. But ever since then we've been on the same level, like he knows that he can trust me and I know that I can trust him not to kick me again. My other horse, Daisy, she was an all ready traned horse when we got her so she didn't have any problems with anyone, Buck was also traned but it had so long since he was riden it's almost like he had never been trained. Also we think that when he was trained, the trainer used a whip or something like that, because he had always been nerves around ropes and other items of that kind.

And my library usaly doesn't have any of the I want, like Dragonlight by Donita K. Paul, they have had their. So fingers crossed.

My is having a photography contest, and I have entered. I'm realy hoping to win, but it's fine if I don't. Do any of yal' have contests in your area?

I guess that's all.

Be Blessed:)

"What is the best safe-guard against false teaching? Beyond all doubt the regular study of the word of God, with prayer for the teaching of the Holy Spirit. The Bible was given to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. (Psalm. 119:105.) The man who reads it aright will never be allowed greatly to err. It is neglect of the Bible which makes so many a prey to the first false teacher whom they hear. They would have us believe that “they are not learned, and do not pretend to have decided opinions.” The plain truth is that they are lazy and idle about reading the Bible, and do not like the trouble of thinking for themselves. Nothing supplies false prophets with followers so much as spiritual sloth under a cloak of humility."

Hmmm. Comments haven't been updated yet and that alwasy seems to put me at a loss for what to say. I dont' know how many of you have been following Jacob Parker and his book "Kestrel's Midnight Song", but apparently it was liked by indie press, a journal he submitted an ARC to. Check it out at his blog.

School has officially started... and I'm learning German! I have some german friends at church: I can't wait to surpise them by answering thier questions in thier native tongue, but it's going to be awhile....

Let's see... what else?

I'm working with my dad and his friend on a huge mural. The object is to make this large room in a resterant look like its a courtyard in venice. My dad hasn't painted in almost three years due to a stroke, so this is really good for him. They're trying to teach me a few things as well... my dad used to be an airbrush artists who specialized in fine arts, and there is some airbrush work to be done on this job. He's already had me work with an airbrush. It feels so good to be back in that atmosphere!

Other than that, I can't think that there's much I have to say.

So, Mr. B... any idea when this thread will actually die? lol! :D

@ Star Dreamer - Hey, congratulations (belatedly --can't believe I missed that)! . . . it's all in God's timing . . . if it's to happen, it will. =)

@ Patrick - Right now, I'm finishing "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan, which I finally got back from the library (someone had requested it). After that, my sister has the last three "Dreamhouse Kings" books from the library, but I may have to wait, 'cause I need to read "Dracula" for English class later this semester . . . lame --well, IDK, but I've never been into vampires and that sort of fantasy: traditional (medieval) fantasy is more to my liking. :)

Wow! It's been so long since I last posted, now that school and color guard has started. I really thought someone had won already. But, then again, it doesn't show the date on any of the posts. =/ That's always bugged me. =D

I can't stay on long, but I'll try to post later. =)

Awesome songs from the first Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack:

The Black Pearl

Will and Elizabeth

Barbossa is Hungry

Do any of you have either an iPod Nano or iPod Touch? I'm thinking about upgrading from my three year old 1 GB iPod Shuffle, and I was wondering if ya'll had any thoughts about which would be best!

So this week was my first week with school and my part time job. I think I've seen several people mention here that they had a job . . . could I ask you guys how you deal with work and school? How do you balance it? Prioritize? How do you find time for school, work, and fun?

jolayne said...

have you guys ever heard the song ashes to beauty? i don't know who sings it. i had the lyrics running though my head for the two weeks i was at camp, it is a very beautiful song. here's the chorous; 'i'll trade these ashes in for beauty, and wear forgivness like a crown, coming to kiss the feet of mercy, i lay every burden down, at the foot of the cross.'
i was really moved.
PS have any of you been to seen Ramona and Beezus? i went with my mom and my two younger sisters. it is so good. very clean, wholsome family entertainment. if any of you go on father daughter dates, that movie would be great. i haven't seen hollywood make a movie with that kind of father daughter relashionship before. PS, there is also a little romance, so that's always good.

Has anyone seen the www.narnia.com site? You can create an account (just make up a user name and password) and you can sail the seas like the Dawn Treader! :) You earn points by answering weekly trivia and finding sunken treasure. I made an account last month, so . . . waiting for the movie. LOL I've promised myself I wouldn't look at video clips this time around -I'll only watch the movie trailers. For the "Prince Caspian" movie, I soaked up every bit of info and spoilers and movie clips I could find, and though I enjoyed the movie and I felt "wowed" at seeing scenes from the book come to life. I recognized a lot of scenes from the clips I saw online, so it didn't have quite the same feeling I had when watching "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" (which I only saw maybe a couple of trailers on tv before watching). What do you think about my plan? "How far are you going to go" spoiler-wise in relation to the next Narnia movie?

Jolayne: Copying notes/term lists is a technique that I also use for studying! I've found for me that it helps whatever I'm going over "stick" better in my brain than just reading over the material. Also, for some tests, the teacher occasionally will print spare copies; following the test if no one needed the spare he'll offer them to anyone before he discards them. I've been able to get some of those, and since this particular teacher's tests are cumulative, make copies of the matching and fill-in-the blank sections and take them as practice tests since once a question is on a test, you can expect to see it on future ones. Depending on how your teacher does tests (I had this particular teacher for math and science classes, so the subject matter lent itself to cumulative testing as the concepts built one upon the other), he or she might be willing to let you have old blank tests as well!

Patrick - Depends. I personally have an 8G Touch, but I really want upgrade to an iPhone and an iPad. I'll probably have to wait on that for at least a year though.

@ Eldra - Lucky! I still haven't read V&S yet (yes, it's sort of a "duh" obvious thing . . . I am still posting on here, aren't I? LOL)

@ Patrick - I've never had an iPod, but the Nano or iTouch HAS to be better than the Shuffle . . . my little brother won a Shuffle, and it's fine for him, since he's twelve, but . . . yeah, 1GB is too small for me. It depends on what you want to do . . . if you want to be able to use apps. and other things, the iTouch would probably be best, but if you're going to use is mostly as a portable music device, the Nano should suffice. One of my friends has a Nano and she said that it has a speaker (so you can listen without the earbuds) which is something I always look for in a MP3 player under my consideration. =)

@ jolayne - I remember reading the "Ramona" books when I was in third grade. =) I was sort of nerqous (note, IDK why my "\/" button is showing up as "q") when I heard Selena Gomez was playing Beezus, but the moqie's gotten good reqiews, so I'm glad. I think Walden Media lost the ball on adqertising (their one weakness) --I haqen't seen the moqie yet, but I'm sure it's so much better than the other moqies released around that time, and it debuted, like 4th or something? Beqerly Cleary's books are practically classics! Adqertising? I hardly saw any . . . major fail on that part, Walden Media. =(

On the bright side, I did recieve a copy of "Sword of the Six" in the mail the other day. It's really good! If you haven't read it already, then when it comes out from AMG you absolutely have to! Of course, I haven't read the entire thing yet, but... it is really good.

So anyway. My dad goes in for surgery today. Pray for him if you think about it. It's nothing really serious but, surgery is surgery.

So how did everyone's summer reading go? I participated in Incredibooks' summer Read-a-thon (my first ever) and it was really interesting to see "how many" pages I read this summer. Even though I read a lot less than when I was home-schooled (only 27 books this summer and I still have a mountain of fiction books in my "to read" pile) --it ended up to be just over 8,500 words, I think, so I was surprised about that.

okay, talking about english class, i am reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, please don't give anything away, but is it worth it? Just wondering, i didn't like the values of divinchi code, his facts weren't staight, and he made accusations like Mary is not the mother of jesus, or she won't be in heaven. it made my pastor frustraighted and we accutually did a session on how it was proved false, when people said it was fact.

How often do you say the words "i love you'? how often do you mean them or even know what they mean? Love is a serious thing and that phrase holds a lot of wieght, it is fine if you mean it, but if you don't i don't believe that people should say it as often as they do. Any feedback on that?

This is one of my favorite J. C. Ryle quotes so far:

"The change which our Lord here declares needful to salvation is evidently no slight or superficial one. It is not merely reformation, or amendment, or moral change, or outward alteration of life. It is a thorough change of heart, will, and character. It is a resurrection. It is a new creation. It is a passing from death to life. It is the implanting in our dead hearts of a new principle from above. It is the calling into existence of a new creature, with a new nature, new habits of life, new tastes, new desires, new appetites, new judgments, new opinions, new hopes, and new fears. All this, and nothing less than this is implied, when our Lord declares that we all need a “new birth.”

Ha everyone!!

Jolayne; (For the debate-do sea monsters exist) When it comes to sea monsters and all the other creatures that are mentioned in history, I must admit, it is a small hobby of mine. To realy study and find out what makes these creaturse so important or infasized that a whole number of different stories needed to be written down and remembered in history. I researched on sea monsters one time and came across the best research book for history (on any subject) The Bible. In the bible it is mention in three diferent places in the bible, the first one is Job 41:1-34 that is where God speaks to Job on how no one is His equal and uses the Leviathan a an example, which indicates that there is or was a sea creature that not only could live like a fish under water but also walk on land. Then the Leviathan is mentioned again in Psalm 74:12-14 heir it is mention that God crush the heads of the Laviathan and gave him as food to the creatures of the desert, so now the Laviathan's "HEADS" was crushed. S lets move on to where the Lavithan is mentioned again. In Isaiah 27:1-11. I wish I could continue this talk on sea creatures, but it will have to wait til' tomorrow.

LadyDragonKeeper; I would have to say that I would love to go to Ireland.

Well I have to go.

Be Blessed:)

I'm so there! LOL, I really want to read it now (though even if I did buy that book, I'd have to wait until Christmas break to read it because of school). What do you guys think? Apparently, it just came out this month.

jolayne said...

Archer, i totaly agree, i am fasinated by sea creatures. Dinasours is an area where i am more educated in. Have you ever heard of Kent Hoven, (i don't think that's how you spell it) he beilived in dinasours, creation, and God. he is one of the most devoted christians i've heard of.
Some of his evedance is totally amazing. i'll let you know more latter, for now i've got to go.

Patric, i really do find writing down the Bible helpful, in terms of remembering. Normally i don't do that with test. i have a really good memory, and rairly study for them at all.

Lady dragon keeper, yes the movie is amazing. they acctually keep closely to the books too. (it is a father daughter, or a sister sister movie.)

Stardreamer, i read the first hunter brown book, and hated it. i won't give anything away, but i was not into it.

Eldra, yes i guess your right, i've never read The Binding Of The Blade series. are they any good?

Okay, for a heads up to all of you, Angels and Demons has a really good plot line, but horrible theology. it is really messed up. Dan Brown says that it doesn't matter which god you worship, you'll go to heaven, wheater you get there by karma of enlightenment. The Bible stongly speaks against this. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the light, no one comes to the Father exsept through me." So Christianity as a whole believes that we're the only one who go to heaven, it makes me sad that so many people are going to Hell, but that's what Jesus said, so that's what i believe. Any comments?

Star-Dreamer, those were some awesome quotes! =D I love the last one - Hilarious! =D Also, I noted the Guten Aben. Do you know Germnan, or is that just common knowledge that I missed out on? =D

Jolayne, I haven't thought too much about it. =) Interesting! I guess it's possible, and it would be really cool, but I don't know. You think someone would have found something by now. Also, wouldn't you have found skeletons or some, or is it the last of it's kind?

Also, forgive my great ignorance, but what on earth is the ogopogo?

Ooh, also, about the Da Vinci Code? Have you read it? I want to read it, but frankly, I have absolutely no idea what it's about. I did hear that it has some rather controversial ideas, in it though.

Also, brilliant point about love! I read a facebook group once that said, "They tell us hate is a strong word, but they throw love around like it's nothing." That totally convicted me! I say awesome all the time. Like, a lot. But, I hate that, because, when I’d have a truly amazing God experience, I couldn’t really describe it. I throw a lot of words around that have true meaning.

Also, you know how the Greek language has different words for love? Well, I found so does Spanish! They have gustar, which is “like.” I like bananas and sleep. Then, they have encantar, which is like “love.” I love summer. Then, there’s “fascinar,” which is like being almost obsessed with. And, that just for objects! There’s “amar”, literally, to love. But, most commonly, “querer”, which is to like, but more culturally accepted for love. So,if you love someone, and want to tell them in Spanish, you’d say, “¡Te quiero!” or I love you! And, that’s just as far as I’ve gotten in Spanish 2 (Please correct me if I’m wrong!)

Patrick, I haven’t, but let me know about that! I love Apple! =D

Lady DragonKeeper, that sounds so cool! Do they have a website? I used to read about three books a day (and check out about 60 books from the library at a time), but I burnt through five libraries, at least, and I have no money for new books. So, I feel kinda stuck. =)

Also, you’re kidding? That’s the hardest question ever! I guess Switzerland or Iceland. I’m obsessed with languages, my favorite being Icelandic. I only know a bit, though. If I could, I would take ten years to travel , but of course, that’s unreasonable. =/ I want to do a foreign exchange student program, or go to college abroad (like Oxford?)

Also, that’s a hard one. I’m not really a shopper. First off, because I have no money. =) Second off, because I really don’t buy more clothes than I need. I only shop every once and a while, and I don’t really get new stuff, but when I do, it’s usually more expensive and nicer, because I guess it’s my personality.

Archer, that’s so cool! I’ve definitely heard about that, but I thought it was only in Job. Let me know if you ever come across anything super interesting.

Personally, I love studying Greek mythology. It’s PURELY fictional, absolutely of course. But, it’s so interesting how much Biblical history is there. For example, there are stories about this great flood after Pandora’s box, which was when Misery, Dispair, etc, where released. Mankind was wiped out, and the gods formed a whole new race that was better suited for the climate. It’s just like Noah’s flood, if you seriously study it.
Wow, this was a LONG post. Sorry about that. =) Hope everyone’s doing okay!

For the debate on Dinos...the word dinosous wasn't even created untill a few centuries ago, and the word Dinosour acctually means tarable lizzard. before they were reffered to as lizzards or dragons. almost every culture has history of at least one dragon. (even cultures that were cut off from the rest of the world like China have them) isn't it odd that every culture has a story about a dragon? doesn't it make you wonder. also, before the flood people lived to be 900 years old, so did animals. lizzards never stop growing, so a lizzard that lives for hundreds of years will essincially look like a dino. there is a lizzard that has three horns on the top of its head, let it live hundreds of years and youd have a trisaratops. (please ignore all spelling mistakes.)
So ya, they exsisted once, the question is, do they now? well obviously, you can still go to a pet shop and choose a lizzard can't you?

LadyDragonkeeper: That's an awesome discussion question! For me, I'd love to travel to the British Isles and tour across England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland! There is such an historical atmosphere there, and since I'm a big history geek, I'd love it! Especially I'd love to visit a lot of the old churches in the different countries, the castles, definitely Oxford and C.S. Lewis' home there, the churchyard in Liverpool, England where J.C. Ryle is buried and where he spent much of his earthly ministry. Also, going to some of the locations in Scotland featured in Curse of the Spider King would be neat! =D

Wish me luck everyone! :D

On the debate about sea monsters, I think it depends on the monster we are talking about. Sea serpents, livathans, water dragons... possibly. It depends on a few things...

but unfortunatly I don't have time right now to elaborate so I'll have to get back to you on this. :)

Patrick - You got a Touch! Sweet! And about woodworking: both my dad and his dad have worked with wood for years. Dad actually installs hardwood floors and has worked in some HUGE houses, including the Hart Mansion in Calgary (the wrestling family used to own the house). I don't do woodworking, but I have helped him install a number of floors over the years.

jolayne - The Binding Of The Blade is a pretty good series, especially for fantasy lovers. If you have time to read all five in a row, then, yes, I totally recommend them.

Speaking of dinosaurs and such, has anyone ever heard of the Ogopogo?

Good grief! I apologize for the . . . what? quintuple at least posts. I kept getting this error message, and tried to post them in different ways, and I guess they all posted anyway. . .
Jolayne, my neighbor is really into dragons. She has some book all about them with pictures, and maps, and anatomy diagrams, and everything. Apparently, there is evidence that they existed. I looked it up, and here’s a fascinating article: http://www.valserrie.com/vs%20A_DidDragonsExist.htm It’s really excellent! It talks all about the scientific evidence for dragons, and a few stories almost proving their existence, like why no one has found one, how they could fly, and the breathing fire. Even Marco Polo “noted in his records of his trips to China that the royal family kept dragons for ceremonies.” I didn’t know that. =)
Patrick, take me with you if you ever go on that journey! It sounds like a lot of fun! =D
Star-Dreamer!!!! That’s SO awesome!! Definitely praying for you! Let us know when you hear anything, okay?
Patrick, that’s really cool! I went to Williamsburg and saw the carpenters. It was really fascinating, actually. I got to keep a squiggle of wood. =)
Eldra, you’re totally right. And, I KNOW I am thoroughly paranoid, but could everyone start putting the date when they posted? I can’t figure out how we would know if we went a day, and it’s been bugging me so bad!! That would be awesome, guys.
PATRICK!!! Wow! I ‘ve always wanted an iPhone or an iTouch, and then my dad got one . . . for my mom. Let’s just say I didn’t have a very Christ-like attitude and leave it at that. Well, actually. . . I was pretty mad. But, now she let’s me use it and I’m helping her and I downloaded these apps and music and it’s incredible!! I love it so much! It’s just so cool! I hope you have a lot of fun! =D
I have allergies so bad right now! I can’t smell anything, including a skunk last night. It’s pretty bad. My throat is sore, and I’m really thirsty. Ugh. I love fall, so very much, but not allergies. =)
Also, I have a really funny story for you guys. Color Guard does a swing flag routine to Michael BublĂ©’s “I Haven’t Met You Yet.” We’ve performed it twice, and it’s been AMAZING! Well, we went to our first away game . . . And, I messed up so bad. How bad? I had the flag upside down the entire time. At first, I was mortified. Then, it was hysterical because we already couldn’t hear the music, and we weren’t really together, and I figured, “Oh, well. There’s always another game.” =)

Moahahahaha! Jake is BAAAAAAACK! Has this ended? Is it over? Has anyone won? What's the news? Where is Sir Batson?

Well, I can no longer claim to have read all of the comments--turned out some of them posted many times!

@Eldra
It may have ended already. :)

Sooo...What to talk about? Well. Let's see--Here's a story. :D Read it if you like--it happened just today.

--

My oldest younger sister (I have three sisters, all younger than me) has a lock on the outside of her door. And she has a strange habit of locking herself in her room. :) I walked to her room and tried the door--locked. I unlocked it, and walked in. "Alex, you locked yourself in your room again." I said. She shrugged. "I don't remember locking it. Seriously--someone must have locked me in."

I did a seriously dumb thing just then--I demonstrated. "See, look," I said to her. I walked outside the room, and closed the door behind me, locking it. "See? That's how you lock yourself in your room all the time."

But what is really dumb about what I had just done was that I had locked us BOTH in. Score one for insanity, Jake! Yeah, sure, we were rescued in five minutes or so--after pounding on the door and laughing ourselves silly at my stupidity. The story has already been told three times--undoubtedly it will be told even more in the days to come. :D lol.

--

So, that's about all that's going on in this town. :) Talk to ya later!

"...In a history of conflicting creeds it is wise to consult representative men as well as books, in order to secure strict accuracy and partiality, which are the cardinal virtues of a historian. May this repository of creeds and confessions promote a better understanding among the Churches of Christ. The divisions of Christendom bring to light various aspects and phases o revealed truth, and will be overruled at last for a deeper and richer harmony, of which Christ is the keynote. In him and by him all problems of theology and history will be solved. The nearer believers of different creeds approach the Christological centre, the better they will understand and love each other." - Phillip Schaff, Original Preface, Creeds of Christendom, Vol. 1

@ Patrick (and mermaidgirl45, etc.) - Wow! It'd be cool if we can all visit where we want to go someday. =) I'd love to go to England (and Scotland and Ireland, and Wales, etc. LOL) as well . . . and see the castles and where many of my favorite authors are from (C.S. Lewis, Jane Austen, Brian Jacques, etc.). I'd also like to go to Japan or maybe even China . . . since that's where my ancestors are from . . .

@ Star-Dreamer - Wait on the Lord, for He is good! His will shall be done . . . --I wish you well! How exciting!

@ Patrick - Wow! Lucky guy . . . LOL. Enjoy the iTouch! Haha, I love doing crafts . . . never done too much woodworking --I've done a woodcut for printmaking (sort of like a "stamp" that you ink and print onto paper, but it's as large as the page) but I love crocheting, knitting, sewing, drawing, reading, jewelry making, etc. as hobbies

As for meaning; Right now, I'm reading The Return of the Shadow; a collection of early versions of FOTR in LOTR. Turns out that Strider was a hobbit (named Trotter) with wooden shoes! :D lol!

Time to go to the library! Fair well.

To all who mentioned the dino-sea creature debat,

I had to skim through some of the posts because I don't have a whole lot of time so icase I missed anyone I'm sorry, but I will type as fast as I can.
I agree with Star-Dreamer that it does depend on what animal or lizard, but I'll come back to that later, for now I'm going to start with the difference between dinousors, dragons, and sea creatures. Lets start with Dinousors, yes the word dinousor wasn't even invented til 1841, it was coined by Sir Richard Owen after the first bones of dinosaurs in 1822 in england.I watched a show on tv (it's on TCT channel) and they were talking about Dinosaurs and dragons in the bible. It had all of these Christian archeologists and researchers on there talking about where in history dinousors were still alive now this is what I can remember, In the book of Job just before they talk about the laviathen. It talks about the Behemoth, (Job 40:20) and it says
"Look at the Behemoth, which I made along with you"....now pause right there. God just said that He made this Behemoth along side man and He's saying it as if the behemoth was still alive in the time of Job. In the begining as in the begining He says He made all things so we can awseume that He made Dinosuars..think about it..lets continue reading...."and which feeds on grass like an ox. What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar:".....hold the phone, now that reminds me of that brachiosaurus dinosaur. If you look at the bottom of your bible you'll notice that they compare this behemoth to an elephant or a hipo, now if you look at a elephant or the hipo you'll notice that neather of them have tails that sway like a cedar tree. Lets cotinue reading....."the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. He ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword. The hills bring him their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby."
Ok what they say next is that of the Flood and Noah's Ark. They this...'Now God said to Noah that He will send two animals (male and female) of one kind of each kind. Now that hast to inclued dinosaurs because God said every animal He created He would send two, so now we know that dinosaurs lived that long. And this is just my own opinion, but the flood would explain why some scientists have found dion fossols on the same level as human fossols. Also I found these videos on youtube.
here are the names
(this one has two videos)
Dinosaurs and the Bible BY Steve Wolfe
and
Age of Dinosaurs 1-9 (you'll have to find each one of the nine)
(and just to mention all of my writing is of creation mindset)
On a liter note
Star-Dreamer; congrats on the publication pisability (might be spelt wrong)I it all goes well for you.

MermaidGirl45; I also have an interest in greek mythology. And my sister is good.

I hope I didn't upset anyone, if I did I'm sorry.

I talk about the debat later but for now I must go.

Mermaidgirl: I'm learning German this semester, so I thought I would throw in a few words for practice. ;)

And I'm glad you all like the quotes!

Did anyone notice that the Christian Fantasy and Science Fiction blog had dedicated this month to reviewing Venom and Song? When I saw that I thought, "Wow! What a perfect excuse for me to get the book!" And then I thought, "If only I had money," but perhaps (if I'm lucky) money won't really be that big of a problem.

The one thing is, I kind of want to read "Curse of the Spider King" first. And I also have a copy of "The Isle of Swords" at home that I haven't even cracked open yet. My reading list right now is VERY EXTENSIVE. And my birthday's coming up, and of course the only thing I'm really asking for is books. And perhaps one movie; I really liked that new "Alice in Wonderland"; I think it is my new favorite.

Anyway, that's all I have for right now. I'm feeling really random while I wait for my mom to finally come and pick me up from school because she's taken over my car since her's broke down. So I'll stop typing now... Maybe... :)

Okay, so I haven't been posting every single day . . . simply put --my life has gotten busier ever since Aug. 23 --the day I started school (again) AND had my job as well. Has any of you had to balance school and work? If so, do you have some advice for a "newbie?" I had a small job a couple of years ago when I was home-schooled year-round, but this . . . this is different.

Star-Dreamer, I completely empathize. I have a reading list several pages long in Microsoft Word, but no means of paying for them. =) Also, I've never seen Alice in Wonderland, but I've heard it's good. =)

Jake, I'm so jealous! That's so great! =D Let us know how it is! =D

Lady DragonKeeper, that's really cool. I lived in NZ for a few years, and I'm dying to go back. It's so pretty, even in the suburbs. =)

Also, I'm still four or five months away from being 16, so I haven't gotten to the job part yet, but please let me know how it goes! Are you working at a bookstore or a restaurant or something? =)

Patrick, I haven't heard of the Dark Sea Annals. I'm taking it that's written by WTB? Do you know when-ish it's coming out?

See you guys!

Oh my word! I can't believe that this thread is still going... or is it? Haha, it started how many months ago?

I just got back from a summer at camp a few weeks ago and didn't even think to check this until now. I was sure it would be over! Wow.

In any case, I hope everyone had awesome summers! I'm excited to be back. I just finished the writing on my novella and am now in the editing stage! Hurray! Then comes query time.

Here's a fun writing tip. Have y'all see the Pixar movie Monster's Inc? Mr. Waternoose says this: "It's all about presence... about how you enter the room!"

Well, that's true in writing as well. It's all about how your character enters the story/scene. Their entrance can SHOW you a million things about them, without you having to bore your audience to death by TELLING it. Entrance is vital.

So, you as the author need to know where exactly your character was before the enter the scene, what they were doing, what they were thinking! That's what my directors told me when I was in my last play: Know what your character was doing before they enter on stage. It makes sense. It adds a sense of realness to your character on stage - ie not just an actor playing a part - and in your story it makes your character real as well, not just a name on a page!

So, entrance is vital! :) Hmm, I feel potential for a blog post there! lol

Jake said...

Well, I don't really have anything I wish to reply to (though be rest assured that I read the current comments)...So that wraps it up for me! XD lol.

Ya know, this has been going on since March 31st. And has 1729 comments to-date. Wow...

I'm off for real now. Here's a quote ta get ya by--one of my favorite Bryan Davis (via Walter Foley) quotes.

"'Here? Oh, not much. We've been reading prophetic poems in a diary written by Merlin, and we found a real fire-breathing dragon in a cave, and after we got waylaid by a couple of gun-toting goons and an ugly old witch, Billy got kidnapped at knifepoint and thrown in a trunk. The kidnapper sped off just before I could get him, and he tried to squash my head with his tires, but he missed. I'm okay, and it didn't hurt much when he stabbed me. Oh yeah, and the professor's been shot. Other than that, it's been pretty quiet. See ya later.' Walter pressed the disconnect button and snapped the phone back on the professor's belt."

~From 'The Candlestone', by Bryan Davis.

That is my favorite DIOM quote to-date. :D LOL!

WORD VERIFICATION

Disme; An alternate spelling of dismay--condensed, for those who like writing short and simple. Properly, it should be spelled 'Dismë'.

Jake, good to have you back,
i haven't commented in a long time, so although i will continue with previous conversations heres a new one for you guys...

Have any of you ever watched the movie Presious? it is very good, but very real life, she is sexually abused by her father, and physicly abused by her mother, she is 16 and reads at a grade 2 level. it is such a good movie, it made me so thankful that God gave me an awsome mom, and dad for that matter.

Mirmaidgirl. the Ogopogo,is one of Canada's sea monsters, located in a lake in B.C. in case you don't know, that stands for British Columbia.

(Sorry, i'm very proud to be Canadian. Please don't ask me if i live in an igloue, because i'll ask you if you live at McDonalds, (nothing about you personally, just the US, and i'm tired of Canadian jokes.)

Cool fact, Ogopogo spelt backwards in ogopogO, just to let you know.

Star-Dreamer: I would definitely second LadyDragonkeeper's suggestion; both of Mr. Batson's pirates tales are fantastic; Isle of Fire has a very interesting twist on the pirate genre also, along with an intriguing, mysterious villain. You'll thoroughly enjoy both.

I am absolutely ASTOUNDED that this thread has not died yet. But 1700+ comments later, it still lives. I am afraid I have to kill it. Now. I still want to reward someone, so here's what I've come up with: If you have posted comments on this thread ten times or more, email me between now and Sept. 24th. Put "Kill this Thread" in the subject line. I will put all those names in a hat and pick a winner and send you your signed copy of Venom and Song. Now, I officially declare this thread deceased. ;-)

Just saw where Mr. Batson has fired arrows dipped in mortiwraith venom into the thread and it must be laid to rest ;). Wow, its amazing that it has endured this long and really neat that we've been able to have all these neat conversations on such neat topics and form friendship and camaraderie!

Will most of everybody be migrating over to the Underground forum? It would be great if we could keep contact!
