Kill this Thread and Win Venom and Song

Have you ever played "Kill this Thread?" You say you're against all forms of killing? I SO agree…uh, except for this game. Uh, and except for when I find a spider on my bathroom floor. Okay, back on topic.

Kill this thread works like this:

1. Comment on this post.

2. Be the last person to post a comment before the thread "Dies."

How does the thread die? Easy, all that has to happen is for NO ONE to post a comment for one single day. Every time you post a comment, you prolong the thread's life 24 more hours and put yourself in the potential winner's seat!

So, say Biff posts a comment at 3pm today. If no one posts another comment by 3pm tomorrow, then Biff wins the prize. But, if Zelda posts a comment at 2:59pm tomorrow, BOOM, the thread lives on 24 more hours.

Now I've seen this done a number of ways, but one thing I hate is that the comments posted are too quick and very boring. So I'm adding one more REQUIREMENT:

3. Make your comment something meaningful. Give us one of your favorite quotes. Tell us why you like it. Give us something from God's word to munch on. Talk about your hopes and dreams. Encourage someone you care about. Talk about a new band you "discovered." Tell people why they should buy my books--you know, anything meaningful like that! :-D

Oh, and what's the prize? How about a PreRelease Advanced Reader Copy of Book 2 of the Berinfell Prophecies series: Venom and Song--autographed by BOTH authors (CH and Me!)

Sound good?

Post away! Kill this Thread!

Aiden that verse is from the gospel of John. The first chapter. I had to study that whole gospel last year for bible bowl. My favorite verse from that gospel (and my favorite bible verse) is: Greater love has no one than this, then to lay down one's life for his friends.

just flippin' through amazon now... and checking out this blog of course, but that's (almost) beside the point. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good new read? I'm getting bored with rereading things (although I have a lot of favorite books). So, any suggestions?

Other anonymous person, just be glad you get a spring break, some people (like me) don't get one at all. :( Um, here is a quote from the book i am working on "A man, a true man, is not judged by the tears he doesn't shed, but by the ones he does, and why. I though you would be the first one to know that. My mistake." (she was really mad at him)

Well this is my first post. I am really excited because this year Im going back to Christian summer camp called Timber-Lee, where I had a lot of fun last year. One game we played was called help. My counsler blind folded all of us and led us to a course of ropes. We had to find the end of the rope. The counsler kept saying, "Be careful of the knots and the other people on the rope. If you need help just ask." We all got frustrated but in the end we figured out the only way out of the "course" (which was actually 3 trees with ropes all around them) was to say help. It was very frustrating but very enlightning.

Wow, writers galore! Mr. Batson's blog is fairly crawling with them!

And 200 comments! To quote Star-Dreamer, "Die, Thread, die!"

Star-Dreamer; To quote Dobro Turtlebane from Bark of the Bog Owl by Jonathan Rogers, "You've got what it takes!" That excerpt was awesome.

Okay, I'm going to take a vote; Does anyone feel like me giving an excerpt from my own novel? You can pick; Book 1, Book 2, and Book Three (Titled 'Sadaar') Yeah, only one of them has a title. I have problems with that. :)

(Hoping I'll get a resounding yes :))

Well, even if I don't win, I'll still have gained two followers on my blog and a slew of blogs to check!

Star-Dreamer, that excerpt was absolutely mindblowing incredible! Please, please, please, please, please let me know when you get it published! It looked amazing. I'm trying to write a book, but I'm having so much trouble with plot. I want it to be epic, and I have the very first chapter, a threadbare plot, and a rough ending, and that's it... *sigh* Writing... =D I love it!

Star-Dreamer said...

The funny thing is, we must all be just sitting at our computers and waiting for the comments to be updated so we can post our own comment and hope that will end the thread. I just can't help but think that's funny...

Star-Dreamer said...

Jack, thanks for that wondeful comment. *blushes* I'm so glad you liked it.

Now to answer your question, you should totally post an excerpt! I don't care which book its from, just post one! I'm enjoying reading what's up so far.

You know guys, I'm starting to wonder why none of the books that have had excerpts posted from are not already published somewhere; I'm dying for new reads! And I'm also getting tired of feeling like my own novel isn't quite good enough and going back to revise... again. That is just so annoying!

Hey Mr. Batson, how did you beat the annoying voice in your head saying, "not good enough, go back and revise again!"? Did you just finally say, "enough!" and close your eyes and send it off? That's what I'm thinking about doing...

(die! Thread, you are really starting to get on my nerves! Die, die, die! *sheesh... hope I don't sound to morbid...*)

Star-Dreamer said...

Mermaidgirl45: I'm glad you like it. Actaully, I was just looking over it and nitpicking again. *le-sigh* *looks to heaven* Will I ever feel that it is done?

And of course I'll let you know... if you really want me to. Actually, no one's ever asked me that before, so thank you; you made me feel a little better about it. *lol*

But the whole thing with the plot: you want to know how this story started? *chuckles* It was a 500 word random scene that I had no idea where I was going with. I saw something on line for a contest, pulled out that scene, closed my eys and typed whatever came to mind. The rough draft was so dry when I was finished, I felt like I could choke on it! It's been through a lot of rewrites since.

That said, I bet your story is amazing. You should post some (if you're brave enough... I've had to over come that fear myself).

And if anyone is interested, I have the prologue of that story posted on my blog, "The Pen and Parchment".

Now I think I'd better hand this thread back over to Mr. Batson... After all, we're all competeing over who gets a signed copy of his book, not the mine! *lol*

i wonder when people are going to run out of meaningful things to say.
Have any of you ever read anything by Ted dekker, i'm looking for feedback on his work, to see what other people think. i loved his circle series, but it was so annoying because you never, ever, knew who to trust and who was bad. i guess it is his way of writing a suspence book, but still i thought that by Green it was kind of old. i loved his metophore in Green (if you havent read it yet don't read this next part) where he made Thomas be like Abraham and Eligah all in one, offering up his son, and at the same time having idolic worship trying to out do his sacrifice.
I also love the paradise series, it made me kind of mad that one of the trust worthy characters turned out to be a deamon. The lost books series started out amazing, but although 5 and 6 were interesting puting that other girl in makes everything so confusing. i really didn't understand the 'across the river thing' if any of you could help me out with that. Reading all of those series makes everything make sense and so not make sense. ~jolayne~

I also finally posted something about this contest on my blog... not that it makes much difference. After all, I think everyone who's following my blog is already following this contest, but still... *shrugs* I thought it would be kind of cool to write about.

And I posted a picture of the coverart for Venom and Song in that thread. Is that alright Mr. Batson? I hope it is. I clearly stated that it belongs to your book, but I defy anyone who doesn't think that cover art is just plain awesome!

Here's the excerpt;

Shad sat down suddenly. “S-something's going to happen.” I had never heard Shad stammer before.
“What?” King Ladar and I asked simultaniously.
He was looking beyond us, as if he saw something we didn't. “Something terrible.”
Shad seemed to come out of a sort of trance. “The alarm bell!” he suddenly said urgently.
He raced out the door, and a few minutes later I heard the peal of the warning bell.
I braced myself, and then hurtled myself out the door, the door slamming behind me with the force of the wind.
I staggered slightly as the pelting rain hit me, and then made my way to the navigator cabin.
Shad was inside, ringing the bell. He seemed to have calmed down, and he stopped ringing the bell when I came in.
Shad looked out the porthole, and then tore his eyes away from it and stared at me. “It's here.”
An unearthly roar came from outside, and the Waverunner shook violently.
“What in the world?!” I yelled in alarm.
The ship rocked back and forth again. “It's a-” Shad yelled, but a bellow from outside masked his words.
“What?” I shouted.
“It's a leviathan!”
My blood ran cold. Leviathans were mythical, at least, they were. Legend said they were the last of the huge creatures that roamed the earth when Aari made it. Humans had driven them off in the Early Days, and they had slowly died out. But now I wasn't so sure.
Shad grabbed a harpoon and hurtled out of the cabin. I followed him, taking a harpoon also.
I saw Shad standing still on the other side of the ship, but a roar riveted my attention from Shad. There, above him, was the most monstrous, hideous, and terrifying beast I had ever seen.
It was covered in gray-green scales which were stained by the lash of the sea. It had giant spines running down its neck, where it disappeared into the sea. Its head loomed above the ship with luminous, bloodred eyes and keen, stained teeth. It gave a keening scream, exposing rows of more teeth. A gust of choking, smelly breath hit me, and I staggered to the side of the ship and retched over the side.
Shad shouted to me, “Hit it in one of its eyes! That's the only place that's vulnerable!”
I wonder how he knew that, I thought irrelevently.
Shad had somehow found more harpoons, and he hurled them, one after another, at the leviathan.
Shouts came from around me, and I saw some of the crew coming out from belowdeck, clutching at harpoons. I remembered a poem that my mother had read to me when I was smaller.

'Can you pull in the leviathan with a fishhook,
Or tie down his tongue with a rope?
Can you put a cord through his nose,
Or pierce his jaw with a hook?
Will he keep begging you for mercy?
Will he speak to you with gentle words?
If you lay a hand on him,
You will remember the struggle and never do it again!
Any hope of subduing him is false;
The mere sight of him is overpowering.'

Despair overwhelmed me for a second, but then I came to my senses, and ran toward the leviathan, harpoon high. I threw it, and it curved up into the dark sky. It pierced one of the leviathan's eyes, and I cheered.
It shook its head in pain and frustration, and then glared at Shad murderously with its one working eye.
Shad stood there, his hands on his last harpoon.
The leviathan gave an earth shaking roar, and, jaws open wide, brought its mighty weight down on the ship, trying to get at Shad. I grabbed a rope, hanging on for dear life.
Shad scrabbled for the mast and managed to get his arms around it, still holding the harpoon.
The ship tilted almost vertically, and I saw Shad's hands slipping. My mind was blank with horror as I saw Shad slide a little, and then drop into the gaping maw of the leviathan.

I hoped you liked it.

Jolayne,

I have read Ted DekKer. I think his books are awesome! I've read the circle trilogy, and also the books of history (for a younger audience) and Three, and also House by Ted and Frank Perretti. They are all awesome! But let me say now that both Ted and Frank are pretty much Thriller writers, so you have to sort of have a nich for that kind of reading to really appreciate thier works. House, though, was more of a psychological thriller/horror. But it was really REALLY good! Also, "Three" is available as a movie, as is "House". You should totally check them out.

Good evening folks. Thank the Lord for another beautiful day!

Honestly, we take so much for granted! That becomes increasingly clearer when you sit and think about it and realize that every single breath we take is a gift from God! Doesn't that change your perspective on things a little bit? If every breath you take is a gift from God, you don't want to waste a single one of the breaths He has given you.

I know this has been said before - at least I've heard it somewhere before and since yesterday was Easter it made me think of it again. When Christ died on the cross, the Author of life gave up His life so that we might live. And every breath that the guards drew as they were nailing Him to the cross, came from Him! That just blows my mind away!

Oh, and y'all are welcome to check out my blog (ofbattlesdragonsandswordsofadamant.blogspot.com) if you want! I've been too busy lately to update it recently, but I'm hoping to get back to it soon.

Hey, anyone else getting some warmer/hotter weather?

Aiden Romero; Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.

Barie; I should've known it was Bosie. :)

ElizabethMarieKauffman; Steven Curtis Chapman is awesome. I love his music.

As for backup meaningful stuff, here's a bit about my novels.

One fine day, in early summer two and a half years back, I sat down at the computer. I had just finished a rousing novel, and I wanted to write something like that so much it was nearly bursting out of me.

I had once read a quote; "Originality is nothing but judicious imitation." Basically, "Every story that is told has already been told."

This was true at the beginning of my novel. I opened Microsoft Word, and titled the first chapter, 'A Night Chase'. I was halfway copying my favorite novels at the time, but it grew into a completely different story.

Over the next two years, I worked on and off on the novel, writing when I felt inspired. Not a good idea.

Finally, about seven months ago, I wrote the last word of the epilogue. My first impression was that it was a terrible piece of work. Bad paragraphing, lack of clarity, and grammatical mistakes running wild. To top it off, it was barely seventy pages long.

But I edited a firestorm over the next months, while simultaniously working on the sequel. Believe it or not, I finished the next book only a month or two ago.

Now I'm in the middle of the third book, which in my opinion was the best one yet, already sixty pages long and only halfway through.

Anyway, that might give you an idea of how my writing life goes.

Now for a question for all who might be reading this; How's everybody else doing on their respective novels?

I hear it's absolutely amazing.

Gillian, I liked your post about the breath of God. It is very true you know. When you think about it, you almost want to make sure you do things right, make him proud of you. I once posted a quote on the critique forum over at Writersdigest.com. It said, "if every word was a drop of paint, we'd be more careful what we say for fear of the pictures we'd create." It just came to me in the car one day, but I think it is so true.

That said, I think after this thread finally dies and someone ends up being the winner, it would be cool if we started an online group or something. I mean, I agree with Jolayne that I feel like I'm sort of getting to now you guys through posting on here; it would just be kinda cool if we could keep doing it, you know?

BTW, how many of you have checked out the Writers Digest website, or been to critique central? I've found it very helpful. Star-Dreamer: Absolutely, please let me know. I'm totally buying a copy. ;D And your blog is really cool! I read the prologue, and it was amazing! I haven't read a lot of Christian fantasy, but by anyone's standards it was really, really good. I can tell you like to write. =)

And, thank you. I hope it turns out amazing. =) It just needs a lot of work... I want it to be a thickish kinda book, because I love those, and because I just want to put a lot of symbolism and theme in there, even besides allegory. I just want something big and epic, but I'm probably not going to get it first novel... =)

Jolayne: I totally know what you mean. I have all these great ideas! Like, I have an idea about one book about an angel that reaches out to six different kids, and it tells the story from all their point of views. It sounds lame, but it's actually kinda cool.

And, an excerpt is very welcome! I know how hard it is to offer something that you pour yourseflf into, like writing. So... in honor of everyone who has actually been brave enough, I have a little poem. PLEASE be honest - You won't hurt my feelings. =) It's definitely not the best I've written, but I like the theme. =)

I finally come home and how happy I now am!
I see You right beside me and reach to take Your hand.

Your hands! When I see, I stop and stare
Two small holes that remind me of the pain You had to bear

And for me You died! Your unquenchable love for me!
I look into Your eyes, and through Your eyes, I see.

The time when I broke, helpless and shattered,
When my faith was conquered and tattered

I see my devastated self through Your loving eyes
And feel Your hand reach out and help me rise

I see the time when I spent every minute with You
And while we talked and laughed, You held my hand then, too

I watch my entire life through these caring eyes
I feel every hug You gave me and every tear You cried

And when I watch myself fade away from that hospital bed
I turn to You and understand the reason that You bled

You love me! You always have and You always will.
With this love, every soul and place is filled.

Now, I take Your hand and You show me this great world
And I know I’ll never again feel alone or scared or cold

Hmm... I'm sure that other people have commented since I submitted my comment, so I might as well. It hasn't posted yet.

I'm rereading the Door Within Trilogy again, and I can't help but marvel at Mr. Batson's storytelling skills. How does he do it? I'm feeling a little down- in comparison my novel is like a mountain against an ant. Ah, well.

Oh, and Star-Dreamer; Thanks for following my blog. I'd follow your blog, but my computer's a little messed up, and the 'Follow this Blog' button doesn't show up. By the way, I don't see why you haven't published that novel of yours yet. I read the prologue, and it's awesome.

Jake loved your quote it is the same with me. i don't have a curfue or a 'bed time' but it might be useful when i start reading a book.

For everyone who commented to Star dreamer about ted dekker, just to let you know, i started it. jk, well seriesly i did. i would love to know what all of you think.

Star dreamer, i would love to be part of a group if we start one once this finally ends, aka, in a year or two. And i totally have writers adhd

Mirmaidgirl. i like your idea about the angel and the kids. and i liked your poem, something about it spoke right to me.

My cousin and i decided that writing letters is way more personal and heartfelt than using email or facebook (my dad won't let me get facebook so that options out anyway)so now we are writing letters. in each letter we put a Bible verse to encourage eachother. the latest one she sent me was "For nothing is imposible with God" Luke 1:37

Well i'm almost ready to go to bed. that's kind of early for me. where i live it's not even 9:30

Star-Dreamer, yes I agree! We should all totally have an online group. That would be really awesome! It's strange how you feel like you get to know people a little bit, simply through reading their comments...

Matthew 25:40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for Me."

I happened upon this verse again when I was reading my Bible - just a reminder that you can live for Christ now and where you are today simply by loving and serving those around you! That's so amazing!

Well, I have 2000 words to write tonight before I go to sleep. I'm taking part in a write a 50,000 word novel in a month contest with one of my friends. So far we are on day 6 - 24 more to go. It's a really awesome way to train yourself to set deadlines and keep writing even after you feel that the "creative juices" are all dried up! ;)

Star-Dreamer said...

Oh man! There are so many posts I want to reply to! It's just to bad I can't just hit the "reply" button.

Ok, first to Nathan R: But if I stop posting then I won't be the one to win the book! What would be ideal is if I was the last one to post and the thread died! :D *lol*

Jolayne: I love the redwall books! They are some of my favorites. I haven't read all of them yet, but I've read a lot of them and they are soooo good! The funny thing is, I first discovered them while sifting through a garage sale; never underestimate the power of second hand stuff!

Archer: I actually have read the first four of the lost books... they are soo good! Can't wait to get the others!

Mermaidgirl: I'll let you know. :) I'm glad your interested; that makes me happy! *does happy dance*. Course, I'll prolly post something about it on my blog when it finally happens... by then (when I finally get published) I'll probably just be bubbling over with excitement! BTW, that poem is just beatiful! (I do not say that lightly). Really lovely.

Jake: Don't worry about following; when you're comppy is back workin' fine, you can try then if you still would like to. anyway, I'm convinced my computer hates me... well, dislikes me very much anyway. Half the time it never does what I want it to do.

BTW, thanks to those of you who decided to follow my blog! It's so new, I didn't think anyone would be interested in it just yet...

To one of the Anonimous': I LOVE Steven Curtis Chapman! My favorite song has got to be "Heaven is the Face". I cry every time!

And to anyone else who is thinking about posting an excerpt of thier book but hasn't quite decided yet,

POST IT PLEASE!!!

I love to read new things. Like I said before, I'm just wondering why some of the books these excerpts belong to aren't already published; *blink, blink* If they were, I'd totally buy them.

Star-Dreamer said...

And with all of that said, I wonder, have any of you checked out the Writer's Digest forum? I really find thier advice helpful.

I'm excited because Celtic Woman is coming to Peoria and I have tickets to go! *does happy dance*. I love Celtic woman. I love celtic-ish music period. But I have to say, "Celtic Hymns" by the band "Eden's Bridge" is one of my most favorite CD's ever! Does anyone else enjoy thier music?

Does anyone else like Celtic music?

@ Anonymous (Goldarrow) - Not quite, this is what Mr. Batson posted on his blog:
"Be the last person to post a comment before the thread 'Dies.'

How does the thread die? Easy, all that has to happen is for NO ONE to post a comment for one single day. Every time you post a comment, you prolong the thread's life 24 more hours and put yourself in the potential winner's seat!"
So no one has to post on here for 24 hours (which probably won't happen unless this blog post gets buried, but Mr. Batson doesn't post, "like" a lot so, this could take a couple of weeks. ; )

Okay, i think i'll post this part. It is acctually from book 2 but it is like my favorite part that i have writtin in it so far. At least the most maningful in my opinion.

“Do you remember anything? I can’t imagine you fell all the way down here and lived to tell about it. We must be a mile underground!”

“Yes,” She looked to be concentrating. “Yes, I do. I woke up and was hurt, badly. My entire body felt like it had been trapped on by a million elephants then tossed to the side.” Ion smiled at her description. “It was really dark and after I had just laid there for probably close to an hour I finally got up and went searching. Like I mentioned it was black as pitch and I couldn’t see anything. After I had wondered around in the dark for a long time this overpowering feeling of loneliness, loss, and being lost came over me so strongly that I just sat down and cried. I don’t know if I was dreaming or if what I saw was real but it was so, so…..”

For the fist time since Ion had met her Hannah was at a total loss for words. She looked up and tears were glistening in her eyes. “The King came to me. Amanda once told me that He spoke to her. He didn’t just speak to me he actually appeared before me. Light filled the entire cave, all originating from Him. And His voice, oh, His voice! It was terrible and wonderful! It was made me cower in fear and want to draw nearer at the same time. It was sweet and strong, it was fierce and loving. His words hurt and healed. Oh! How to describe it! He drew nearer and I was able to see scars that marked his brilliant form. He stood over me and looked down. I looked up. His face of Light was soft and compassionate, yet reprimanding and firm. He leaned down over me and His Arms encircled me. He looked at me and said ‘My beloved daughter, why have you hated Me?’ Oh! How five words can hurt! ‘Do I look like a fairytale character to you?’ He asked.

‘No,’ I replied, ‘no My King, Please forgive me!

‘As far as the West is from the East, your sins have been cast from My mind.’ and then He leaned down and kissed my forehead and disappeared. Instantly the cave was thrown back into complete darkness.”

:) I felt the only way to get a real picture of what happened was to have Hannah tell the story. I hope it wasn't confusing.

Wow, we should really create a google group or something because after this thread finally is finished, I would like to keep talking with you guys... or posting with you guys, or whatever.

First off, let me say that I am a total Veggie Freak! I have to tell you guys this hilarious thing that happened to me last semester in our dance class. Probably half of the dancers there were christian and/or homeschooled. The other half was not christian and whent to public school (and just so you know I'm not puting down public school at all... just hear me out, because this is really funny!) Anyway, one of the homeschooled girls just randomly started singing silly songs with larry and all of the other homeschooled and/or christians joined in. The other kids were like "what in the world has gotten into you guys!" Oh my! You should have seen thier faces! It was lol+rofl fun! And I have to say, I love the cheesburger song and Barbra Manity, but my Absolute favorite has got to be "lips".

Larry: "On the day that I turned eight,
Got my lips stuck in a gate!
My friends all laughed
And I just...
stood-there-until-the-fire-department-came-and-had-to-break-the-lock-with-a-crobar-and-I-had-to-spend-three-days-in-lip-rehab-with-a-kid-named-oscar-who-got-stung-by-a-bee-right-on-the-lip-and-we-couldn't-even-talk-to-eachother-because-oscar-only-spoke-polish-and-I-only-knew-like-three-words-in-polish-except-now-I-know-four-because-Oscar-taught-me-the-word-for-lip... USTAH!

Archibald: "Your friends all laughed... Ustah. How do you spell that?"

Larry: "I don't know."

Pure genious!

Star-Dreamer said...

In answer to Patrick's request, I would have to say that when Aiden used the Glow Spiders to make the enemy think they were surrounded and outnumbered... that was pretty amazing! My favorite book in the trillogy? So tough! To be honest, I was sort of sad that they all ended up dying in the end, even though really they had only gone into the land beyond the sun and their lives were just beginning. It was sort of bitter-sweet, you know?

I just feel like posting two random poems I wrote in honor of the Chronicles of Narnia: C.S. Lewis' books were the first ones I'd ever read in the fantasy genre and some of my favorite books, not to mention the fact that they were actually my original inspiration for becoming a writer. A good friend gave them to me (a much older friend). They were his when he was ten, which was the age I was when he gave them to me. So here are the poems.

#1 "Farewell to Shadow Lands"

Farewell to all the Shadow Lands
Farewell old trees and sky
Farewell to old familiar hills
And the pain of sad goodbyes
Farewell the sea, but well met sun
Now new in day's rebirth
Hail God, Hail Aslan!
Night is Done!
This is a brand new earth!

#2 "Peter's Invitation"

Why wait thee upon the threshold
If thou so disire to see
All that lies beyond the wardrobe
When adventure beckons thee?
Then I bid thee now to enter
And to see the world within.
Wait thee for an invitation?
Then I welcome thee... come in!

Also, I'm not sure which Anonymous posted the excerpt, but it was WAY cool! I have to say though, it's so funny, because one of my character's has a similar revelation in the older write of my book. In the rewrite I haven't quite gotten as far as that scene yet, but I'll post the old excerpt and you'll see what I mean!

But you guys have got to know, that our books we're working on are all different, and yet all similar because we all KNOW who is writing THROUGH us. He uses us like a vessel, a mouth piece to speak to the nations. He gifted us with writing and said "go write" and that is exactly what we are doing... For Him.

That said, here's that old excerpt... it will probably be rewritten before I actually finish the book for publication.

Star-Dreamer said...

The Throne room was cold and dark, the three-pointed candelabra near the throne casting the only light. King Aldor sat pensive as Curron approached and kneeled respectfully. Aldor looked up and half smiled; he looked exhausted.

“You’ve come. I half expected you wouldn’t.”

“You’re my king. I’m always obliged to obey.”

Aldor thought about it. “No, not always, but I can be glad for that now.”

There was a moment’s silence in which Curron noted the strange lines creasing the king’s youthful forehead. King Aldor had obviously been pondering something very seriously. Curron felt his curiosity aroused. Finally the king spoke.

“I don’t know what you saw last night, but I know what I did. It frightened me badly and I’ve come to question myself not only as a king, but as a man. What I saw was void, a blackness no light could penetrate. I was within nothingness and I myself was nothing: not living, not dead; nothing. I had never existed.” The king paused momentarily as a shiver ran through his body. “It was when I felt complete hopelessness settle over me that He first came.

“I’m not sure how to describe him, but he was everything the void wasn’t. He was light, hope, and courage, all of which I had none. As he came towards me the dark fell away and I felt hope. I remember his eyes well. They were wonderful and terrible, burning into me like — well, I won’t go into that!” Another involuntary shudder ran down Aldor’s spine before he continued. “The point is, I knew who he was — I’m not sure how I knew, but I did — and I realized for the first time how foolish I’ve been. Ahnador is real!”

Curron nodded understanding.

“I found I painfully regretted ever opposing him. I felt his power — even briefly saw it used, though it’s beyond words to explain — and I was filled with it. All I could think throughout the whole thing was how much I wanted to understand it all, and how much I wanted him never to leave. For I knew that, if he left, I would be plunged into the darkness again; back into the void. That was the last thing I wanted: to go back to seeing nothing, feeling nothing, even being nothing. I wanted him to stay, needed him to stay; and I longed with every part of my existence to comprehend the power I felt surging through me...”

Aldor fixed Curron with his piercing eyes.

“I know that thing you showed me was part of it; I could feel the similarity in power as soon as he looked at me.” He shifted forward eagerly. “I want to know more.”

“Your majesty…” Curron began.

“No! don’t tell me you don’t know! I don’t believe it for one moment.” Aldor looked at him, staring at him for so long and with such intensity that Curron could almost feel the king’s gaze searing his skin. Aldor spoke softly, almost in a whisper. “You must tell me more about him. I don’t think I can live any longer without knowing. Last night was… it was difficult. Painfully difficult. But now I know the truth. Now I’ve seen; now I’ve heard. Please Curron, you must tell me more about him. You must!”

Curron felt his heart begin to race. This was it! This was the moment everything depended on. He thought it had all happened the night before, but that was only the prelude to a much bigger story. Yet as much as he felt he should be nervous, he wasn’t. There was so much to tell and he hardly knew where to begin, but he knew now that this wasn’t his moment; it was Anahdor’s.

“You’re highness, I think I should start with the Order of the Brethren…”

Quickly, for the excerpt above, I must remind you guys that it is from one of the oldest original drafts of Song of the Daystar: seriously, the rewrite is so much better it almost feels funny for me to post that. But I did, so it's done now.

The second thing you should know is that King Aldor's name has been changed to Morven in the rewrite; I had too many "A" names going on and it got confusing. Besides, I honestly think Morven fits the king's character better.

That said, I'd better stop posting for awhile. It's just that I have so much I want to say, and I want to reply to all of you guys. I totally love doing this... it's so good to meet other serious fans of WTB, and in doing that, also meet serious writers and kindred spirits. Patrick, my favorite scene from the door within is the end where Aiden, Anntoinette and Robby all stand fast in their faith. I hope that when i am put in a situation like that (though it probably won't be a sword point threating me) i will have the same courage to shout "I WILL NEVER DENY MY KING!" Hum, favorite from Isle of Swords/Fire..... wow that's a thoughy. But i think i'll go humorous. I like it when Ross assumes Cat is asking for Anne's hand! Hilarious, gets me every time!

Wow, that was a lot. sorry.

A man dressed all in red walked through the courtyard of a dark castle. His cloak billowed out behind him like a bat. He walked down a series of steps until he came to a door. He tried the door and found it locked. He took a big old-fashioned silver key out of his pocket and fit it in the lock.
When the door opened it emitted a noise that would be enough to deafen a person not used to it, clangs of steel against steel and crashes of hammer on iron. Everywhere weapons of war were being made. The man seemed not to hear it. He walked on through. A red glow from the fires illuminated the room. Jinn were at work, making swords and other weapons that had an evil design. The man walked right on through them as if he didn’t see them. The heat in the place from the fires was making him a bit lightheaded. He found who he was looking for, the general. He walked up to the head of the army.
“Are you ready to be out at a moments notice?” he asked. His voice was cold and high.
“My master told me to be.” The general answered. His voice was deep, and made you think of things dead and decaying.
“Then you must leave now. You’re to go to the forest Akin and destroy all you find there. They are elves and they fight hard so you will need at least eight thousand if not more jinn.”
“The jinn fight hard and leave none alive.” The general answered.
“One more thing. You need to bring back three children, the three children that they are trying to keep safe. If you do not bring them back you will be punished.”
“I will kill any that stand in my way.”
“Good.” The man’s face twisted into an evil smile. “Go now!”
The general emitted the battle cry of the jinn, a sound that seemed to shake the mountains and make your blood run cold. It meant death. Even the man in red trembled as he made his way out of the room. “He must not fail.” He said to himself. “My master wants those children, for they are the heirs to the throne and must be destroyed. And when he wants something no one can stand in his way. No elf will be left on earth after this battle.” He cackled to himself.
Three hours later an army of eight thousand jinn left the big gate of the fortress, with the general leading them. They went to kill.

There were too many jinn and they decided to use the weapon their master had thought of. Fire. The jinn set fire to a tree and it spread rapidly.
Silmarwen knew she had to get the children to safety. They were the elves’ only hope now. She left Tari’s side and ran down the path. The fire was spreading to the tower where the children were. The elf ran up all the steps and into the room.
“Come with me.” she said snatching up the baby boy. The girl and boy followed as she ran down the steps and to the stable.
She got out the fastest horse and put the boy and girl on and jumped on herself.
“Hana tool kan sun!” she commanded the horse. The horse sprang off.
“Where are we going?” asked the girl.
“Somewhere safe.” the lady answered.
She heard hoof beats behind her and saw jinn on horses pursuing. The elves had been right. They wanted the children. She rode for many miles, her horse outdistancing theirs. Then she gave a cry for an arrow had hit her arm. She stumbled off the horse. The boy and girl did too. The baby rolled out of her arms and down the hill toward the jinn. Jinn got off his horse and picked the baby up. He gave a wail. The jinn smiled evilly and started to make his way toward the other children.
“ Anil loonal futhar.” Silmarwen screamed at them. They were momentarily stunned. The lady got up and with surprising strength picked up the girl and boy got on the horse. She rode fast and she heard no more signs of pursuers. But she needed to get the baby back, first she needed a place to keep the children safe. Humans. She found a small town hidden in a hollow and rode in. Some people came out of their houses to see what was wrong.
“What is it? An attack?” A short chubby man came bundling into the room where everyone had gathered.
“No, I need someone to care for these children for me.” Silmarwen said wearily to the people.
“Well, what about that? The very night I was telling my wife we needed some children. I’ll take care of them for you.” The chubby man said he reached for the little girl’s hand.
“Thank you,” Silmarwen said, “You children be good. I may not be back. Just live with these good people. I will try to get your brother back.”
And she rode away and was not seen there again.

“Mother tell me a story.” A little girl asked as she jumped up on her mother’s lap. The light breeze whispered through the tree that the house was positioned in. The evening’s moon shone through the branches. The breeze made the evening very bearable.
“Not now,” The women answered. “It is high time you were in bed.”
“I’m old enough to be up.” The boy, who looked a couple years older than his sister, contradicted.
The women laughed, a tired sort of laugh. She seemed sad, as if almost all the hope she had was gone. “I still say, to bed! Now no dawdling.” She kissed the boy and girl, and the baby sleeping in a crib made of branches. Then she made her way out of the room and down the stairs.
“Tari, I have been sent to get you.” An elf came up to her. “There is to be council and you need to be there.”
Tari sighed. “I will come”
When she entered the room where the council was, most of the other elves were already there. Just as she sat down, an elf rushed into the room.
“I am sorry but I have a very urgent message.” He said.
“Go on,” Tari said.
“The jinn are on their way! We need to go to our posts now! The children need to go to somewhere safe!”
“I will take them to the highest tower.” A young elf maiden stood up.
“Thank you, Silmarwen” Tari said and rushed out of the room, after the other elves. Silmarwen rushed up to the children’s room.
She shook the boy awake. “Get your sister up and follow me.”
“Why?”
“Just follow.”
She picked up the baby and took the little girl’s hand. The girl rubbed her eyes. “Where are we going?”
“Somewhere safe.”
“Why?” asked the boy again.
“Do not ask questions right now. We need to hurry.” Silmarwen said it a little harder than she meant and the girl began to cry. “Oh, I am sorry. I did not mean to sound so harsh, we just we need to hurry.”
They came to a high tower in another tree. Silmarwen placed to baby down on the floor “Stay here.” She said, “And whatever happens don’t panic. Wait for me.”
“Yes.” said the boy as he sat down. The girl was already asleep.
She left them and went to join the archers. The elves rushed about getting ready.
“Are they all right?” asked the head archer.
“Yes. I hope they are safe.” She replied, but still she was worried. They were the heirs, what if something happened?
They heard sounds of an approaching army. The jinn were yelling their ugly battle cry. Suddenly they burst from the trees. The archers released their arrows. The swordsman ran at the attackers. They were fighting for their lives. Silmarwen looked at Tari next to her. She was deathly pale.
“What’s wrong M’lady?” Then she saw that Tari had an arrow in her stomach. She fell to the ground just as Silmarwen caught her.
“Tell my children…….I love them.” She whispered.
“No! M’lady you cannot die. We need you!”
“I have no strength in me left to live……I have been wasting away since my husband died……Newela.” Then her head fell back and she knew no more.

I love that veggy tale comment that you posted about the lip song! That's hilarious! (too bad they went out of business :( ) I also love the Water Buffalo and Cebu songs! (I actually got to see and pet a real live Cebu last year at my town fair!!)

I also loved the excerpt from your book. It was amazing! I'm so interested to see what comes next...you've got to let people know when you get it published, because I know I'll be looking forward to reading it :)

Oh, my goodness, I have so much to say... First off, here's a piece of my day yesterday (computerwise);

I checked WTB's blog every other hour on my computer, but no new comments showed up. I thought, you know, WTB could have not posted 'em yet, so I just sat there. So I get on my Kindle while getting ready for bed, and I see that thirty comments had been posted... during the day. Dumb computer... Anyway, I wrote an extremely lengthy comment on my Kindle (it took me an hour on that small keyboard) and then... My Kindle bombed as I tried to post it. Great. I got so frustrated and tired that I just went to sleep. So here I am.

Fun, right?

Anyway, here's a bunch of replies I needed to do;

Anynonymous (one with excerpt); Wow. That's all I can say. Wow... Okay, maybe I can say something; That excerpt was marvelous. Keep up the good work!

Galadriel; LOL, that's a hilarious quote. And true, too.

Gillian; I wish I could write that much... My biggest streak is 26 grand of words in a completed novel. I'm feeling a little insignificant...

Star-Dreamer and Barie; Redwall is awesome. I've read all the books except for the newest one at least twice.

Star-Dreamer; Awesome excerpt. And you say that the updated version is so much better? I'd buy your novel when it comes out.

Squeaks; I'll try your advice... right after I go to the dentist.

Gotta leave!

On of my favorite quotes ever is from one of the books in the Red Rock Mysteries series by Jerry B. Jenkins:

Hi! One of my dreams in the future like i said earlier is being a writer, But right now i am writing a book for fun! here is the Prologue. I hope you like it I haven't even revised it yet, haha!

I write these words in my chalet. Looking through a porthole into the vast land of Natac and it’s twin kingdom, Nigron, where as a child I heard many a chronicle of chivalrous knights, fair maidens, and loyal peasants who jeopardize there lives for the service of there one and true master, King Legus.
I am Sir Richard, noble knight of King Legus ruler of verdant Natac.
Natac was once a peaceful and civilized kingdom. Until Hadrian came, with him came evil and darkness. He brought chaos and foray; inhabitants of the land feared and dreaded him greatly.
He ruled by fear, a weapon that can be more dangerous then death itself.
But all was not lost for although there was great darkness light is greater. There was a spark that turned into a fire and that fire was and is the prince.
Sit back within thy cathedra vell I, Sir Richard wearing the king’s medallion tells you an anecdote of Sir William, the knight of the king!

So what did you think?

Hmmm... Well, I have no idea when the last person commented, so I have no idea if the thread is dead or not. Just in case...

I just have to quote something quick, from lotr:

*when Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas are standing before the door of the dead. Legolas and Aragorn have just gone in*

Gimli: what? an elf would go underground when a dwarf would not? I'm never gonna hear the end of this!

also....

Gimli: don't worry young hobbits; I have the eyes of a hawk and the ears of a fox...

*and then the elf arrow is pointed at his face.*

lol!

(The rest of it:)

Ever since leaving the Greenwood, he had headed ever westward - not for any particular reason or with any specific destination in mind, but simply because it had been necessary to choose a direction in which to go after leaving the forest of the Gwahere. Maveral slipped suddenly on the wet rock of the stream and fell with a splash into the rippling water. Seated comfortably in the sling on his back Nevan laughed at the sudden ducking. Maveral did not find the situation quite as amusing as the baby prince and he stood grumblingly to his feet to wring his clothes dry.
It was then that he heard voices just up the stream and saw the light of a lantern bobbing towards him.

[portion removed - Maveral spied by soldiers Hawke and Dutton]

Maveral did not wait to hear anymore but leapt up the side of the stream course and took off running through the woods. Behind him he could hear Hawke and Dutton loudly bellowing the alarm to their eight companions at the fire. Nevan bounced up and down in the sling on Maveral’s back; not daring to slacken his stride, Maveral reach back and lifted the baby from the sling, holding him tightly in his arms instead. Onward he pounded, leaping logs, dodging low hanging branches, and tripping over hidden roots. Behind him the sounds of the chase were gradually growing closer. The long wearying journey, the many sleepless days, unhealed wounds from the battle, and the constant threat of danger, were all beginning to have their toll upon Maveral; he was exhausted and could feel his speed weakening. Desperately, he forced his legs to move faster and ran on.
He heard behind him the sharp twang of a bowstring and the hasty whine of an arrow as it flew past him and lodged in a tree to his left. A risked glance behind revealed that the group of soldiers chasing after him were closing fast; one had a bow in his hand and was already nocking a second arrow. Maveral turned back to face the front and put on an extra burst of speed. The bowstring twanged again and suddenly Maveral felt an intense flash of burning pain in his back which wrenched a cry from his through. He staggered forward a step, then stumbled to his knees and tumbled over the edge of a gully which opened suddenly before him. The moss covered valley rushed up at him as he slid down the leafy slope and then landed with a painful stop at the bottom. A fresh scent filled his nostrils, recalling his senses from the threatening blackness looming up to overtake him. Maveral forced his heavy eyes open, and caught sight of a delicate cluster of purple blossoms only inches from his face. His thoughts were confused and jumbled; his vision was graying at the edges, as he raised himself up onto his knees and in an agony of movement pushed the precious bundle by his side beneath the large spray of heather – a poor hiding place, but the only one he could find. A furious roaring sound filled his ears, and he collapsed down again as the world turned to black around him.

Howdy everybody! It's another glorious day at my house! Thank you Lord for the beautiful weather!

Well, The writing challenge is going well so far - I'm just a little bit behind, but I'll make it up tonight. I did the same challenge back in July - it was really great.

This is a short excerpt from the novel I was working on July - my 50,000 words got me only about half way through the storyline, so hopefully I can get close to finishing it this time around! My guess will be close but not quite finished. There's no title as of yet. I have not had time to really rewrite since I wrote this portion in July... so it's a really rough draft at the moment.

Maveral awoke before noon and set out on his journey again, this time at a walking pace and taking every caution known to the skilled Gwahere to avoid leaving a trail by which he could be tracked. He travelled for two days, pausing only to sleep. It was a treacherous journey, and Maveral was never able to be completely at rest for he felt that pursuit was always just behind. At the end of the two days, he had reached the Western border of the Greenwood. He had no plan, no destination, and no place to go. He simply knew that the Greenwood was no longer a safe place to be. And so, for the first time in his life, Maveral of the Gwahere left the Greenwood and entered the outside world of Zaeldor.

For several days Maveral traveled on; journeying mostly by night, and staying out of sight and resting during the daylight hours in such hiding places as he could find. The most difficult part of his journey was trying to escape detection with the baby prince. Nevan, innocent and unafraid, did not understand the need for silence as parties of soldiers passed by, or peasants rumbled past in farm carts, or worked all day in nearby fields - sometimes only a few yards away from their hiding place. Several times they were nearly discovered and forced to leave quickly to avoid detection. Maveral always managed to slip away in silence without being caught or seen, but he was filled with worry for he knew that if they were still being pursued, even the rumor of such incidents would help guide their enemies upon their trail.
One night, the fifth since his journey began, Maveral was traveling westward along a streambed through a small wood.

You know I think a lot of us christian writer (or maybe it's just me) have thought, "If my work helps at least one person in their faith then I'll be happy." Well the one person mine has helped has been me. I write about my characters' faith struggles then realize that they are my own. As my characters work through their battle, so do I. Isn't writting a wonderful thing? Correction, isn't writing about The King a wonderful thing! Sorry I guess i kinda went on there didn't I? Oh well.

Stardreamer, Barie, jake and other redwall readers (Barie i didn't say fans) i couldn't help but realize something as i read the outcast of readwall.
It almost sounded like an alogory.
it's been a while since i've read it, so i wont use names.
there is the character that gets kicked out of redwall for doing bad stuff (like us) but then that girl that 'adopted' him comes after him. (like God) this evil character doesn't want her help, and doesn't realize that he needs her so he tries to run away, but the girl follows, finally he tries to kill her (sometimes when we get mad at God we just try to block him out of our lives). in the end, i don't quite remember how it ends, but he changes, and realizes that he has to defend the one that was like a mother (father) to him. i just thought that that was interesting.
i also find the fact that all of us have comman intersts very intersting. our styles of writting, most of our opinions and even the series of books that we read.
i lost the game. if you don't get that i explain it on one of my earlier posts.

Amy and Eamon stood in the glaring sunlight as they watched the men take their aim. Amy closed her eyes and began to sing. "And though that world with devils filled, should threaten to undo us. We will not fear for God hath willed, His truth to triumph through us. The prince of darkness grim, we tremble not for him. His rage we can endure, for lo his doom is sure. One little word shall fell him." Eamon then joined in with gusto for the last verse. "That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them abideth. The Spirit and the gifts are ours, through him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also! The body they may kill, God's truth abideth still. His kingdom is forever!" The firing squad cocked their guns and waited for the Primer's signal.

Becca oversaw the officers evacuating the people from the prison, but only for a moment. Once the last of children were loaded up into the trucks, she ran into the prison and up into the cell her sister Amy had occupied the night before. She looked out the window upon the prison yard. There stood Amy and Eamon, facing the firing squad bravely and calmly. Becca's heart was bursting with pride for her sister and Eamon. Both were so steadfast in the face of death and feared it not. Tears ran down Becca's face as she turned away. She could not bear to watch.

Just a small section from my book I wrote for NaNoWriMo last year.

My other comment hasn't showed up yet, and it is a new day so i'm gonna post another one. :) Let's go with an excerpt.

Amanda was standing in a dungeon. Chains were around her wrists and ankles. In her hand she held something and would not let go. Suddenly her surroundings changed. She no longer stood in a dungeon, but in the middle of a beautiful meadow. But when she tried to move she found she was still chained to the ground. Her fist was still clenched shut. She saw others, people she couldn’t recognize. They were moving around, not chained like her. A voice whispered, “My child, let go.”

“I can’t,” she answered.

The voice came again. It sounded familiar but she couldn’t remember where she had heard herd it before. “Let go.” A tear fell out of her eye.

“No!” Her voice was stubborn and she sounded much like a toddler who refused to share a favorite toy.

“Let go!” The voice sounded farther away like the echo of a whisper. “Let go.” Amanda shut her eyes tight and opened her fist. She saw what was inside. It was a tornado. It swirled in her palm. A breeze picked up and the miniature tornado was blown out of her hand. As soon as it left her palm it dissipated like it had never existed. Amanda heard the rattling of chains and looked down to see the chains fall from her wrists and ankles. They fell to the meadow floor and melted away just like the tornado that Amanda had clung to.

“My child,” The Voice said, “well done.” Amanda ran through the meadow she was free.

Amanda woke up with tears in her eyes. It was still dark. She climbed out of bed and walked to the paneled glass door that led to the balcony overlooking the city. She opened the door and stepped out. The horizon was starting to turn a pinkish color. Amanda sank down and leaned back on the rail. Tears ran down her cheeks and she didn’t bother to swipe them away. “My King,” she whispered, “Help me let go.” She closed her eyes and saw the memory that haunted her day and night. “I let go,” she said. A picture came to her mind, chains fell to the ground and melted away. Tears were still streaming down her cheeks, tears of joy. The whispered words escaped her lips in a flood of joy that flowed into her heart. “I’m finally free!”

Well, this is my salvation scene from book 1. I already did one of the ones from book 2 so i thought i'd post this one. :)

My Favorite Quote is by Jim Elliot-"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannnot lose" this quote is amazing bacause Jim Elliot fulfilled it when he gave his life to minister to the South American tribe. I have a couple bands I like...One of the ones on the top of my list is Flyleaf, because even though they are under a secular label, in their newest album They have songs whith a course that goes "Beautiful Bride, Body of Christ..."

This isn't a quote but i love it in "larry's high silk hat" when he's telling everyone to stand back then this huge gourd comes and sits on his hat and chocolate. He just sits there, stunned. Daughter of light I have read Tahn and enjoyed it. It is a strongly christian book and at times it got a little cliched. I don't know if that is ok with you. My major problem with it is the ending, which was very anti-climactical. The climax was 3/4 through the book. Leaving the other 1/4 wrapping up te story. Wrapping it all up was interesting, but just coming right after the climax it got a litle slow at times. Other than that I thouroghly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

I say a hearty AMEN! My story also focuses on the King.
and I also love the quote "I don't think that is possible and that's comming from a guy who just swam 92 natical miles without arms or legs"
I also will investigate said forum
Elizabeth, I like Beautiful Ending too. It was my NaNo theme song, because I WAS going to get a beautiful ending!
I went to a performance of Sound of Music last night, so I leave you with this quote:

Hey, this has been going on for a week now... I think I said this could go on for half of forever earlier, but I was just joking then. Now I'm really starting tto believe this is going to go on for forever. Mr. Batson, here's a list of some people I'm pretty sure won't give up (and all it takes is two people to keep the thread going);

-Eldra from Daremo
-Star-Dreamer
-Anonymous Veggiefreak
-Me (of course!)
-Mermaidgirl45
-Jolayne
-Squeaks
-And anyone else I forgot to mention.

And now for replies;

Eldra from Daremo; Go Skillet! They are AWESOME. My dad tries to turn off the radio every time it turns on, and he says this one part in their newer song, "Awake and Alive" sounds Chinese. Kinda weird from my point of view. My dad not liking Skillet, I mean. :)

Megan E.; the book sounds interesting. I assume it's a modern day fiction?

Anonymous Veggiefreak; Wow... great scene. I have one salvation scene in my second book... I'm not an emotional person usually, so yours is probably better than mine... but everybody has a different way of saying it, right? They're not really compareable.

It sure is warm today. :) I'll check back this afternoon, people.

Anonymous Veggie Freak: that excerpt is powerful... very powerful.

Wow, it's amazing how many powerful pieces of literature I'm seeing on here. In answer to one of the Anonymouses, I so agree with you; it woud be pretty cool it all of use got our repsectable novels published; that would just be awesome!

And with that said, here's my veggie Tales quote of the day:

"CEBU.... sing it with me!"

Howdy, howdy, howdy, one and all! Anyone ever watch Phantom of the Opera? Good stuff, if you are a total music fanatic like i am. (As a side note there might be some junky stuff in there. We have a special dvd player that cuts that stuff, like languge and revealing clothing, ect. out) Lets see, other movie suggestions. Well, i've been working my way through all the old musicals and let me tell you there are some good ones, my favs have been, My Fair Lady, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The King and I, Oklahoma!, Sound of Music, the list goes on. But they are really good. I like the VT musical Lyle the Kindly Viking. Now that's a top quality musical. lol

I was thinking about the story where the master gives his servents money then leaves, you know the one right? The first servent is given five talens and earns five more. THe second is given two and earns two more. But the third went out and buried his. When the master came home each servent brought their money back and reported how they had handled it. The master said to the first two "Well done, good and faithful servent." But to the other, the one who buried the talen he said he was lazy and unfaithful. I was thinking, what if we replaced "talen" with "Talents". I think God gave us all special talents. Several of us (most actually) have been given the gift of writing. What are we going to do with it? Use it wisely and reap the rewards? Or bury it, hide it? I want to be known as a faithful servent, not lazy! How about you?

Jake and Anonymous: Dave Ramsey is VERY funny and very insightful! Sometimes I catch his radio program in the mornings...love his mixture of practical financial insight, hilarious humour, and Christian focus of it all.

I love his quote:

"You have to live like no one else, so you can live like no one else."

Applies to writing too, not just finances. To write, the writer must discipline and forgo activities and fun to get the tale written. But the deprivation and discipline in the short term leads to a finished manuscript in the longterm and hopefully publication!

BTW, just thought I'd mention the writing Contest in honor of C.S. Lewis again: just in case my other message doesnt make it through. You can read about it on my blog. Hope some of you enter... It'd be kinda wierd if I was the only participant, even though I can't actually submit anything...

Jake: Yes, it is modern fiction. It's a futuristic novel about America being under communism and the Christians are being hunted and killed.

Star Dreamer: Thanks! I love it when I send chills down people's spines. :-) It means I'm writing something good! The rest of it's a tear-jerker though. My friend proof read it for me and she said she cried at the end. The song lyrics are from the old hymn, A Mighty Fortress (is our God) by Martin Luther. I thought they fit perfectly with the topic of sacrifice.

I *love* Celtic Woman too! I went to their Isle of Hope concert when they were at Dodge Theater in May of last year. I have all their cd's but the latest. I also like Hayley Westenra and Loreena McKennitt (sp?)

On a side note to you, my book reading recommendation would be the Shadowcreek Chronicles by T. Elizabeth Renich. If you like historical fiction, you'll like these. (the era is Civil War-my fave)

Jake what did you mean by it sure is warm today, because if you ment the weather, then it is obvious that you don't live in Saskatchewan. we got three inches of snow and a nintey km per hour wind. it made drifts in our driveway and blew down our furnace shack. it was windy that my sister who is nine was literally picked off the ground when she had to go outside for something.
For all of you who are wondering. Yes it is unusual to have weather like this in April. WE DON'T LIVE IN IGLOOS. (probably spelt that wrong)
Some Amarican asked my friend this "i've always wondered, how do you get electrisity in your igloos." Really we're not like that.
This next story is kindof funny. i don't want to hurt any feelings, i had relitives in the states, until they decided that they missed Canada too much so they came back.
Here's the story.
My social teacher went to France. He ran into so Gang people. they took one look at him, sneared, held up weapons and almost spit out the word Amarican. quickly my teacher said, no no, no Canadian. they emeadiatly put down the weapons and said oh pardon, pardon. Sorry, but i think that we have a better reputation. i still love you all and hope that your not mad at me for that.

Hi fellow writters! *waves* Quick question. What is your favorite creature you have made up if you are a fantsy writer or favorite charater if you aren't? My most creative creature is a Twin. I'll quickly discribe them, they are cool looking! They have two heads, one large eye on each. all have six appendiges (sp?) but how they are placed varies. one could have four legs and two arms or viseversa or they could have three each or any other combo. They all have wrinkled brown skin, and stragly blonde hair that barely covers thier scalps. They don't have a real nose, just litle slits, and thier eyes are wierd too. instead of a normal iris they just have a litle orange-brown cresent above the puiple. That is a Twin!

My favorite character that i have is Slick. He is a bird, a hilarious bird. He is so fun to write about! He can't talk but a couple of my characters have "mindbending" gifts so through translation he gets his point across. It is so much fun! So what's yours?

This word varification thing is cool. ackinase. Sounds kinda like a name doesn't it? lol
