Young Authors...and Readers

I was blessed with a magical night tonight. I spoke at Howard County Public School's Young Author Awards Ceremony. It was one of those nights you long for as a writer--you get to touch kindred spirits and maybe even inspire a few.

These children, these precious lights in a dark world, they are so talented and so pure of heart. I pray that their innocence would remain and that their talents and hard work would not be tainted.

I wouldn't have a book published today if it weren't for my students who challenged me to write. They threw down the gauntlet for me. Tonight, I threw down the gauntlet for these magnificent young authors. I bet they pick it up and run with it.

And on top of it all, so many kids bought books. I am thrilled to think of how many of them, even now, might be reading by flashlight under the covers…somewhere in Howard County.

Never alone.

All right! Come on you bold adventures, cut your teeth on the good solid fantasy m'lord has produced and then, out do him!

We all stand on the shoulders of giants in this genre, thanks m'lord for offering your own shoulders to another generation!

Your words appear to me like words in a book and convey to me images of your true cause. Truely inspiring.

Yay! I'm so glad you had a good time and that lots of people bought your books. That was a very inspiring post, Mr. Batson. You're right...we need to light up this dark world.

It would be impossible for me to write without other people working with me. They give me their personal opinions and encourage me the whole way.

I spotted The Final Storm and Isle of Swords at a book faire this evening. :-D Isle of Swords was sold out though, there was a note on it, saying it was sold.

Sweet. Perhaps their will soon be another WTB fan at our church now. *grins*

And as far as the original blog post is concerned... I hope that all of the young authors write wonder, impacting, and beautiful stories. :D

I don't think I've ever read by flashlight under the covers. Missed an essential growing up experience. :D

I'm been thinking of starting to write myself...many people who've read what I've written think I have I gift for it...I'm not so sure ;) We'll see.

I'm glad you had such a good time speaking...it's good to have one of those nights that you feel you've been made for! Keep on challenging people to write!

That's a awesome! I have to admit to reading underneath my covers when I red the books the first time. Then, I got caught reading The Final Storm and got grounded from reading for a week! How ridiculous is that? It didn't work though. . . ;)

I need to brush up on reading under the covers. It's a skill that needs much development.

I think I've pretty much mastered reading under the covers - Just need to work on my stealth and speed when someone comes in - now if only I could find a way to WRITE under the covers.

I need to appeal for longer freedom hours.
