GHOST sighting...

Hi, Elves and Readers! Today, I'd like to tell you about Ghost, a new novel I've been working on for some time. Ghost is about half finished, and I have a cover design due in February. I intend to release it for Amazon Kindle this summer 2011. I will probably also release it on Smashwords and elsewhere for those who don't have Kindle but want to download Ghost in another format. There's even a print on demand service I'm investigating for those who want a hard copy.

About the Story: Ghost fits into the genre of Supernatural Thriller, in the same vein as Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, the X-Files, Nightstalker, etc. For my younger readers, please note that this is a story for adult readers. Why? It won't be for sex and bad language--that's a promise. And it won't be for gratuitous violence either. I'd say the violence and bloodshed would be on par with my pirate books.

So why the audience designation?
Two reasons: these books will deal with the criminal element, and while there will be no explicit scenes, there will be topics that will disturb younger readers. Ghost is a special sort of investigator who will go after the worst of the worst criminals, the ones no one else can or will catch. These are villains who have literally been getting away with murder...or worse. Another reason for the change in reading audience is that these books will be on a whole new level of intensity. Seriously. We're talking, white-knuckle, pit of your stomach, fear. There's a point to it all as well, and hopefully a message of hope.

God says, vengeance belongs to Him. Ghost will be the instrument of that vengeance.

Awesome! And by a "print on demand" service, do you mean The Espresso Book Machine? http://www.ondemandbooks.com/home.htm

Whoa, I can't wait! If it's anything like Ted Dekker or Robert Liparulo I'm sure I'll love it! :)

@Nolan, I think he means something like CreateSpace, who will print and ship the books he'll sell as he sells them.

This sounds awesome. Kind of reminds me of a character I read about called Death's Angel.

How would you define younger readers or adult?

Anonymous said...

Yes, exactly how scary will it be? Is it like Frank E. Peretti and Ted Dekker kind of scary or horror, oh my gosh!!! kind of scary? Would you say it would be appropiate for a 14 yr. old?

Sounds awesome! I'm definitely looking forward to this!

That is so awesome Wayne! Who is editing for you?

WOW Sounds soooo cool! When is it going to be out in paper? Or is it going to just be out online! (please don't tell me that! I tend to dislike online books.....)

Great! Can't wait!

Will this be available for a Kobo ereader?

Does this mean you're basically self-publishing Ghost? If so, could you recommend the cover people and POD service you're using?

Wow, that sounds awesome!! Just as long as it's not as creepy as the Father Gilber episode I listened to last night (in the dark, which was a personal fail). I'm so glad my Dad got a Nook for Christmas! I assume it'll be avaliable to Nook people, too?

Happy to see you are just as bold as you were when you made your fantasy books. Now a supernatural thriller? Sounds promising!

Huzzah! I will be waiting impatiently...
Is it a single, or part of a series?

HI, all! See below for more direct comments:

Nolan, I'd never seen the Espresso Book Machine, thanks for the link. I was leaning more towards createspace.

CSON: I've not read any Dekker or Liparulo, but rather just know by reputation that they can spin good creepy yarns. I hope that the books in the GHOST series will be drop dead scary but enriching at the same time.

Varon, I'd say GHOST would be most appropriate for 16+. Of course, a lot depends on what you are already reading and what you can handle.

Anon1, definitely not for 14. I really don't know who to compare it to. All I know is what I feel as I'm writing, and the intensity is definitely there.

Eldra, thanks! I can't wait to get it to you.

BDE: Not sure who is editing yet. I have some pretty good contacts, so we'll see.

Anon2: it's primarily an eBook, but like I said, I will have it up on CreateSpace so you can order paper copies too.

Anon3: Look for GHOST this summer. And Final Storm is out on Audio now, with me as the reader. It's definitely my best reading of the series. Hope you like it.

Hi, Emma, I'm not sure about KOBO. I haven't looked into Amazon's restrictions yet.

Hi, Greg! The cover guy is Carl Graves--you can google him. POD is CreateSpace.

Daughter of Light: yeah, this is not one to read late at night all by yourself in a dark house. lol Don't know about other readers besides Kindle. Hopefully!

Daisuki: thanks for the encouragement. It might be the boldest thing I've written. I'm not shying away from some serious flashpoint issues.

Hi, Jake! Yeah, I'm amazed at how fast Kindles are getting into people's hands. Just wait until they start charging like $50 for them. WHOA

Pathfinder: God-willing, a very long multibook series.

Mr. Batson-

Thanks for answering my question!! You said that the violence would be like Isle of Swords/Fire... those were a bit creepy, but that was a when I read it a few years ago. (Thorne is still a little scary at times- just the way he walks, talks, acts, etc. I like him, but hate him at the same time. Awesome job!!)

I'll take your advice- thanks!!

LB Graham told me about this at breakfast yesterday ... this is a very, very, very cool concept, Wayne, and looking forward to it.

@Sir Batson

I know, 'tis crazy. They [Kindles] are still fairly rare amongst the general populous, but I'm seeing more nowadays... $50? I wouldn't be surprised. ;) It drops more and more every year.

Anyhow, looking forward to Ghost!

CreateSpace, hm? I have looked into it before. 'Tis a nice concept.

Hey Wayne, what about fifteen year olds? I read Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, and others like them. They paved the way for supernatural thrillers.
Is Ghost going to be like Monster (Peretti), or House (Peretti and Dekker)? Is that how you mean?
