One word- amazing! All your book covers are stunning, and I think that's one thing that really made me want to read the books. I received Isle of Swords for Christmas and read it in 3 hours, I can't wait for more :D
[Sigh]...I love it! I can't wait until it comes out. Zaphir, I read Isle of Swords in three hours as well. I wonder if I can read Isle of Fire that fast too? It'd require the fascinating art of reading under the covers with a flashlight, something I am good at, but mom doesn't know. Gee, what if she sees this?
Pretty cool. Can't say I've got any particular suggestions. (Although I see something like ripples in the water that kind of look like they continue up the side of one of the buildings as well. Is that intentional or is this like a scan or something? Cause that could cause it if it's not really there.)
Nice colour scheme. :-) Colors are one of the things that draw me to a book. It's part of what initially drew me to Isle of Swords, first time I ever saw it.
Love it. Great use of color, and that design in the top right corner is interesting. If I'd change one thing, I'd say bring the skull and cross-bones closer to the title. When it's so far apart from it, it looks cheesy and a little like it's floating over the actual scene. It'll look great a tad closer.
Awesome! :DD I have to say, I absolutely love the skull in the top right corner. It really makes the cover perfect. I can't wait to read it! -jumps up and down-
Okay, I feel like a dork now. XDD I was looking at my copy of "Isle of Swords" and realized that the skull is in the corner of that, too. In my defense, it's more noticeable on "Isle of Fire." Haha.
Makes you want to start singing, A Pirate's Life for Me! Either that or Hoist the Colors. At any rate, I LOVE IT!!! I shall count the days until its release and pray that you didn't kill Cat.
Here's what I see for what it's worth. I love the design as a whole. The cover is captivating and draws the reader right in. It would work great, but I would personally change two minor things. First of all, the orange lettering for the title and you name appear to be too dark. The title really stands out, but maybe a little too much? The only other thing I change is I would make the two front ships bigger. THey just look really small for being so close to shore. That, and when I look at the book, the burning house draws my attention faster than the ship. (And being that this is a pirate story, I'd think the ship would be more important)
So yeah, that's it. I really do love the design, even if it seems like I'm totally beating up on it because everybody else loved it. Take what you want. Ignore it if you don't like it and keep up the great work.
So here I am looking at this uh-maze-ing cover artwork...and I see this shape on the top right corner. Can't figure it out...until I took another look and realized it was giant skull. It made me jump a little...*sigh* lol.
***flin-flann-of-the-twins***-we're not crazy! Just obsessed!! oops, I think I just blew my own case, LOL. Anyway, not trying to speak for Zaphir, just to clear that up. It took me forever to figure out that thing was a skull. Maybe I should read a little more slowly...[thinks] Nah!
LOL Flinn and Araken xD I've tried reading slower, but I get so into the book that I just can't help but speedread! I usually read it again after a few days or so to fill in anything I might have missed ;) I only slow read when it's educational xD
LOL! I finished the Door Within very fast because I absolutely couldn't get enough! I hated to stop and eat! I had dreams for days about Alleble and knights and this one knight kept showing up in all my dreams...hmmm. If I happen to disappear for a few days, you guys know where I'm at! ;) For things like LOTR, I like to read slowly, especially because I like Elvish and try to learn as much as possible as I read.
The only change I would make would be to tinker with the way the flames or explosions are coming out of the windows of the houses. They look so white hot and if a mortar or cannon really had gone off in the house there would be damage done to the structure---walls falling and stories collapsing and all---and if its suppose to be flames coming out of the windows, I think the would be darker and also lick more up along the roof line. I wonder if it's composite photo layering or drawn work. Looking at it I'm thinking composite photo, so maybe some changes could be made.
I did think it interesting that on Isle of Swords they chose to go with the lovely reds and oranges and on Isle of Fire they are going with blues.
"And being that this is a pirate story, I'd think the ship would be more important",
which was opposite of my own comment, but I think hers makes more sense.
If there were more flames on the houses, then you might not even notice the ships. What about reversing the camera angle completely--having a large pirate ship in the foreground and the burning island in the background? I know that would be completely redo-ing it, so it is probably best to ignore the idea.
Changes or no changes, it is a great cover! Thanks for sharing it, Wayne.
ooooooooooooooooo, I love it! It's fantastic Mr.Batson, seriously. Oh, and guess what! I'm starting me story over and editing it...again. I hate editing, now I know how real authors feel. This is either my 3rd or 4th time!
I agree with treskillard that the perspective should be reversed. That way, the emphasis would be on the ships while still showing the burning buildings, which, incidentally need more flames to really be an Isle of Fire. Well, in my opinion.
Zaphir & Flinn- I tried reading slower. Not slowly but slower. Didn't work. Sorry.
WTB- I added a link to this site on my blog-thanks. its www.loveoffiction.blogspot.com.
Flinn- Elvish is quite awesome. I even have a book on it, but unfortunately I only get it out when I need to name the odd pet fish(which isn't very often since they all died and I don't want more xD).
I absolutely love the cover! The color texture is great and the skull in the sky makes it adventurous looking! You have great cover illustrators! Keep it up!
Amin ve' i' ale'quel en' i'. Aa' lle ilya Aman a're! (I think I just used a strange combo of Sindarin and Quenya...oops.) Anyway, to translate: I like the front of the book. May you all be blessed today!
I know this is COMPLETELY off subject, so forgive me. But two things have been on my mind. One: What ever happened to the writing contest? Two: Have you had any word on the movies, Wayne? Forgive me for being random!
it looks sooo cool and i can't wait to read it. that cover makes me want to read it even more!
to the three hour book readers: YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY! (lol) I can't read a book in a week much less three hours! Do you even understand the whole book when you are done? If so...LUCKY!
By the way, any word yet from the producers about the door within movie? I really hope something good! Check out my blog! http://sapphiraadi.blogspot.com/
Oh, Flinn, I've been thinking about the same two random things! I actually entered something in suspense technique number six! And I've been practically dying to know about the movies!!! Somebody tell me something...? Anyone know anything?

That is an AMAZING cover Wayne! You've got excellent cover artists.

One other suggestion, not sure if the big skull in the sky should be a bit more faded out. Makes me think of a forensic science book for some reason.

patshand: My impression was that it was mirroring the location on the first book.. My two-cents, that's all. :-D
Wow, that's an awesome cover! I love the colors. I can't wait for it to come out!

Great cover! The only thing I would add would be more flames to the buildings in front, making it a real "Isle of Fire"

I love the ships on the horizon and the lightning and the...ships! LOVE IT! :D

LOL, you guys made me go back and notice the skull xD I'm so very observant.
Araken- Woo, another fellow speedreader! :D
You people are crazy! ;0) I like to take my time reading a book so that I can get every little detail of it. I enjoy it better that way.
lol, I just noticed the background skull after reading these posts! Creeepy! Does make you jump XD
Ooh, it looks so cool! Great, now I'm even more excited!

Regardless of the fact that I can't read slowly, I thought it would be a good idea just to state that it's because these books are sooooo good.
elfish- I might be able to help you with that straight-jacket. Check my closet...
I know this is COMPLETELY off subject, so forgive me. But two things have been on my mind. One: What ever happened to the writing contest? Two: Have you had any word on the movies, Wayne? Forgive me for being random!
