All three books of The Door Within Trilogy will be released this year in Mass Market Paperback! The Door Within will be first, released in April, followed two months apart by Rise of the Wyrm Lord and The Final Storm.
But the coolest element of this softcover edition will be that each of the trilogy books will be "Extended Author's Cuts" of the books. They will include "The Lost Chapters" (cut chapters) of each book, complete with author/editor commentary. There will even be some all new material written just for the softcover editions.
I'm thrilled to see the cut chapters sewn back in. While some of the chapters really did need to go, others were cut or trimmed because of word/page count issues.
Wonderful tour everyone! Looking forward to the next one.

Sweet! It's like the Lord of the Rings extended edition--only the Door Within. I'll definitely be grabbing these just for the author/editor comments. (Seriously, that's cool.)
Thanks, Marcus. It's fun to be able to do this with those chapters that otherwise no one would ever see.
I'm going to stay active on the tour, so let's keep in touch. This has been a ball.
Wow - that's something that you don't see all that often. Will the cut chapters be marked as such?
(excellent marketing on the behalf of the publisher - now people have a reason to own both sets, hardcover and paperback)

Noooo! He's gone all George Lucas on us!
Ahem. Actually I think it's a very cool idea to put DVD extras in a book. So to speak. Is there a blooper page?
Ohho, I can't wait (though I'll have to) to do some side by side readings and see where you had to trade strengths out for length. This blog tour thing was something I meant to do and missed. Darn that nasty thing called linear time. Though the release of the Door Within in MM is welcome seeing as the native are getting BEYOND restless for Isle of swords.
That's really great news-both the paper backs, but especially the added chapters. It must really suck to have to cut chapters out-especially for the sake of size!
Thanks for hitting everyone's blogs and leaving a comment-it inspired us!
It's no fun cutting ever--even when you understand the reason and it makes sense. But cutting for length is rough. The story suffers, but as my editors like to point out: the readers won't know what they're missing.
Some comfort, but not much. Alas.
Ha! You can tell them that *I* missed it. I understand having to cut for length, really I do. Writers are no longer the roving story tellers that could spin yarns all winter long in the great hall of a castle enjoying the favor of a duke or a lord or even a king. Somewhere the words ''the end'' must be put on the paper. But it is terribly cruel to hear a gifted storyteller say ''I had to cut things short''
Which is why the mass market editions of The Door Within, Rise of the Wrym Lord, and The Final Storm will be such a treat! And I do think a bloopers page would be funny.
Hey Mr. Batson, guess who? It's candace owings, remember me? lol. I had no idea that you had gotten published until I started working at borders in town mall. Needless to say as soon as i was sure that it was you i bought all three books and i just finished the third one today. And i am very proud to say to anyone who wants to listen that you tought me in 7th grade. I don't normally buy paperbacks but i will definately have to make an exception for these. I can't wait. Hope to hear from you soon.

Candace, hello! What a marvelous blast from the past. Of course I remember you--though, my mental image is far from accurate now that you are "grown up."
Thanks for getting The Door Within books. I hope you like them. I wonder if you remember me reading old, olD, oLD, OLD versions of it to your class when I taught you?
Check out the acknowledgments in the back. You may find a familiar school listed there. ;-)
yes, i remember, lol. I wasn't sure if it was the same book until I got to the chapter about falon in the first book. it was almost exactly as i remembered it, her warning, the pattern aiden took to get through the maze. it was sad that she had to sacrifice herself to the wyrm lord but it had to happen. I will say that the ending to the final storm left me wanting more, lol. I've been reading almost nonstop for about 3 weeks. and besides the harry potter books i've never read anything that fast. I also heard that you were in the mall signing books not to long ago, but sadly that was before I had found out that you had gotten published, or I would have been over. I was hopeing to get my set signed, that is, if you're willing. let me know, talk to you later.
~Candace
I'd love to sign your books. I don't have any signings for a while though. I'm trying to focus my promotional efforts on big school groups for a few months. In April when the extended edition of The Door Within comes out in softcover, I will probably be all over the place again. LOL
But if it doesn't seem too impersonal, I could send you signed/personalized bookplate stickers through the mail. If you'd like that, email me your snail mail address at batguy21784@yahoo.com
I'll send 'em right out.
the end of the final storm really made me want to read more, and now my wish is actually coming true. i cant wait till they come out
Josh
Josh, thanks for the encouragement. And there's a lot of extra pages for the Final Storm paperback--even some new material.
