And yep, since the pirate books, I've got two more series begun: 1) Berinfell Prophecies: Curse of the Spider King & Venom and Song; 2)The Dark Sea Annals: Sword in the Stars and coming soon: The Errant King. :-DWayneThomasBatsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15837713579691260482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19752207.post-66823021469468846822011-04-22T19:14:16.037-05:002011-04-22T19:14:16.037-05:00Um, this is kind of unrealted to the post, but I j...Um, this is kind of unrealted to the post, but I just found this blog and I do believe I am having a mini-heart attack. xD I am so excited. Now I want to read every post and keep up with following this. I had no idea you already had new books out! I've read the Door Within Trilogy and the Isle of Swords and Isle of Fire and loved them all.
I even kinda tried to use the Door Within to explain God to one of my friends....
Um, anyway. Having worked with a really big house, I've seen and experienced things I never in a million years would have guessed to be true. As for editing. Yike! I guess I won't be coming to you for edits! lol jk. Though, my YA titles are generally closer to 100K. Errant King is my first approaching 150K. Ghost, I expect to be between 85-90K.WayneThomasBatsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15837713579691260482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19752207.post-74783945582320841102011-04-14T20:17:24.799-05:002011-04-14T20:17:24.799-05:00Interesting post, Wayne. I've recently read a number of posts from others in the writing profession who seem a bit more encouraged than you are.

What I find ... hard to swallow is the 25% that authors are getting from traditional publishers for ebooks. Uh, 25%? When almost all the publisher's risk and much of the cost has been removed?

Another thing about your post though -- if you hire an experienced editor, you'll pay more than the $1000 you mentioned, and that doesn't factor in the art. I know because I think my editing rates are on the low side, and I'd earn more than a thousand for one of your books, especially if it comes in around 150,000 words like your YA's do. ;-)

BeckyRebecca LuElla Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06823550402103559922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19752207.post-43138368307029197072011-04-14T18:03:02.776-05:002011-04-14T18:03:02.776-05:00Wow, what a great post! I was very anti-eBook before reading your post, but now I'm not so sure. I love reading books (books where I can actually turn the page and breathe in all the unique smells that come with each book I get), and I really didn't like the thought of downloading a book. (I mean, it's just another part of the entertain-me-now society we live in.) But I can see why you'd like it better than working with a publisher. (Now it makes me annoyed that I bought my copies of the last three books you published off Amazon and through a B&N manager friend who could get me a discount! I'll keep what you said about how much you get off each book in mind when I get my copy of your next book.) Speaking of, I literally shouted for joy when I read that you were going to be releasing 'Ghost' on B&N!!! My dad has a Nook, so that works out great!

This post is going to get me thinking. If I ever finish my book, I might consider releasing it in eBook form... Thanks again!!

daughteroflightAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19752207.post-30929635978507631292011-04-13T18:27:39.472-05:002011-04-13T18:27:39.472-05:00Fun! :)

I downloaded a sample and was hooked.

Jill Williamson's books were on sale when I discovered them: if they had not been, I would not be a fan today.

I wholly agree with you on this. If I can't get any of my writing published, I'm thinking of doing something like CreateSpace, where you can have printed books and eBooks at your own set price.

Great post. :) *goes to check out Sir Hopper's post*Jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07013859345463250479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19752207.post-37890705022608623812011-04-13T15:13:37.922-05:002011-04-13T15:13:37.922-05:00Chances are, Sir Batson, that even if I do get tha...Chances are, Sir Batson, that even if I do get that iPad I want, I won't be buying many eBooks. Chances are, my purchases will be limited to your books and possibly any eBooks that members of the UG write. (Of course, I'll buy these books whether they're in ink and paper or pixels.) However, this was interesting and helpful, and it's making me think about the possibility of, if I ever publish a book, to do an eBook. As a young writer, I'm looking forward to having a greater opportunity of getting my books out there, but I'm also aware that these new opportunities may lend themselves for evil as well as good. It'll be interesting to see how it continues to play out.

And, even though print books are more expensive, I hope they don't dwindle to curiosity items. I dearly love my bookshelves to be full of real books. :DRachel Kimberlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02750953159925477298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19752207.post-14186332517760378962011-04-12T22:45:54.873-05:002011-04-12T22:45:54.873-05:00It blows me away that I'll be able to buy Ghos...It blows me away that I'll be able to buy Ghost for 80% less than Sword in the Stars, and you'll be earning 100% more in royalties!

Now that's what I call good business. :)Csonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05877331069560288351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19752207.post-9063406577137062952011-04-12T21:52:32.917-05:002011-04-12T21:52:32.917-05:00Very interesting...
