Exciting News in Christian Fantasy/Adventure!

Author Eric Reinhold was up my way this past week. I first met Eric on the Fantasy Fiction Tour "Motiv8" a few years back. What a cool guy. Big heart, friendly, devoted to the Lord and his family. Well, since then, God has opened the floodgates of Heaven on his Ryann Watters book series. The folks who made Facing the Giants and Fireproof decided to make his book into a movie--a real, honest to goodness--take your kids to the local AMC, get popcorn--wide release movie! And since then, things have just gone off-da-hook. Some investors have come on board, pumping capital into the project. And now, it looks like it's going to be TWO movies. You can find out more by clicking on the links below.

In other news, there's a new author on the block, someone you should look into: Brock Eastman. A long time talent man with Focus on the Family, Brock has taken to penning some incredible new fiction, covering a wide range of genres and reader ages. Want something for elementary aged readers? Brock's got it. Middle School/YA, yup, Brock's got a title! High School readers--that too! For more info, click on the links below:

And finally, of all the reader mail/eMail I get, the question I get asked the most is: Is there a 3rd pirate book? There was Isle of Swords and Isle of Fire, but what about a 3rd book? See, I finished the storyline of Griffin "Cat" Thorne, Declan Ross, and his daughter Anne--in their dealings with the infamous pirate Bartholomew Thorne. But...I did leave a few strands purposefully hanging at the end. And apparently, a ton of my readers want more. Up till now, I haven't been able to even explore the possibility. I was under non-compete contractual agreement. But now, I'm released, free to write a new pirate adventure. I guess what I need to know from you is, are you interested in an Isle 3?

  1. Do you really have to ask, Sir Batson? Because I have but one answer...

PIRATE ADVENTURES BOOK THREE OR BUST!!!!

So be it. Or you'll have a gaggle of Elves raiding your house.

(What's that? What do you mean, I'm threatening? I'm ENCOURAGING.)

  16. Okay, I'm going to be the odd girl out and say no. I don't want you messing with Cat and Declan and Ann. I am happy with their happy ending.

Uh-huh. I can hear your manacle laughter from here.

Adventure, mayhem, death of characters, amazing plot twists, sea sickness, fantastic new places, and mind blowing action sequences.

    Or happily ever after.

It has to end somewhere, and I like the happy ending. ;)

As the first comment (and multiple comments afterward) said, "Do you have to ask?"

Your pirate series is great and my favorite of all of your series so far ... and I'm a medieval/fantasy loving fangirl, so ... that just shows how good "Isle of Swords" and "Isle of Fire" is ... and though I understand about one of the commenter's concern about wanting to leave Cat, Anne, Declan, etc. with book 2's "happy ending" ... as long as the last book in the pirate series ends up "happily ever after" --I'm satisfied. =)

If you bring in a new character try to make him/her as amazing as Cat, (I know that's asking a lot.) I'm cautous about this becuase so many series are ruined by the third book/movie *cough*Pirates of the Carrabian *cough*. so i am awaiting book three cautously, but also expectantly and i'm sure you wont dissapoint me...or else.

Who wOuldnt want a third pirates book? I didn't really feel like it ended once I read the 2nd book... so I'd really enjoy reading the third. Hmmm, possibilities of a third do excite me. I always enjoy reading your books and the pirates series was just plain awesome. Would Blackbeard be in a third book? If so, then that'd be awesome as well. I suspect he'd learn a few from Thorne though. y'know what not to do etc., If there is a third one I look forward to it greatly.

  41. I know I have already said my piece, but I have thought of some ideas for the title. Here are a few:
    Isle of Night(as Elizabeth said)
    Isle of Slaves
Isle of Dreams (or Isle Forgotten Dreams)
    Isle of Gold
    Isle of Nightmares
    Isle of Light
    Isle of Darkness . . .
I'm sure I could think of more, but that is all I have for now. I have advertised your bogs on my blog, http://need2read9.blogspot.com/

    Well said, Jake! :)
I don't think two books makes a series anyway... or if they do, its very rare. Three books minimum, in my opinion. Another pirate book would be beyond awesome, Sir Batson! (My dad and I read the first two together, and he kept asking if there was a third one. I told him there were rumors... but now I can say its most likely happening!)

I think everyone is ready for a new pirate adventure ;-) Though what about The Door Within? I remember seeing a poll or something about the possible scenarios for a new one. Maybe for when Grampin was adventuring in The Realm?

  46. Anonymous6:09 PM

I need to echo Shadow's answer. If you feel inspired to do a 3rd on, please do so, but don't force yourself to write it just because you think it needs an ending or so many people want another. I'd love to hear more about Cat and Anne, but my sister thinks you should just leave the series as it is. I guess either way, I'll be happy.

However, I might change my mind later and join the ever-growing army of elves. ; )

  48. Please, please, please write another addition to your pirate series! I'm completely obsessed with pirates and I absolutely love Isle of Swords (I've honestly reread it like 5 or 6 times, and currently rereading it again). I'm 18 and love the Isle books (so you have readers of all ages) and have been wondering for a while if there would be a third installment since you left us with a bit of a cliff hanger. I'm ecstatic and hope you cook us up another exciting adventure with Cat, Anne, and Declan! Although I would suggest that you don't use Blackbeard, because unlike fictional characters, you are not really free to shape them anyway you want (Disney made that mistake in POTC 4). Just some advice! :)

  69. I'm going to be weird and say no. I don't really want another pirate book.

Okay...let me rephrase that. It is not that I don't want another pirate book. It is simply that I would rather have something else. Like an expansion of The Door Within. Now, I know that sounds impossible, but instead of adding on to the end of the story, you could expand what you already have. You could recount Captain Valithor in the Cold River battles, or something like that. Its not that I don't like pirates, it is simply that I enjoy books geared more toward typical fantasy, like The Door Within, Berinfell Prophecies, and the Dark Sea Annals. But you're the writer, so do what you think best!

Declan Ross, Anne and Cat are waiting for their destiny to unfold. What's it like creating such realistic characters and deciding their fates? They're real page-turners, and I could stay up all night reading them over and over again until each word is forever seared into my mind. My brother does not like to read, but after introducing him to th Isle of Swords he hasn't been able to put the series down! Please write a third book!!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Anonymous10:14 AM

If you're writing a third book, then research is optional. Especially, if you're going to include our dear Mr Teach - Blackbeard to us mere mortals. Perhaps you could throw in a few historical pirates as well? This time, try to depict New Providence as a pirate island as it was in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous12:49 PM

Research is possibly vital if you're going to include Blackbeard as the main villain. For instance, try adding historical characters associated with him and make New Providence a pirate island, as it was in real life. I'd love to see Commodore Blake deal with that!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Anonymous1:17 PM

A plot idea: It is 1718, just when the British and Spanish empires thought the Carribean is safe, a new pirate-lord strikes fear into the hearts of merchants and the Navy. Duncan Ross is approached with a mission - to bring in the pirate Blackbeard and his allies, dead or alive. Meanwhile, the cruel pirate Charles Vane launches a surprise attack on the monks' new monastery and escapes with a map written in a Celtic language. The map leads to a treasure buried by Henry Morgan (yes, I know that pirates never saw the point in burying treasure, but it has a little grain of truth to it). Could Blackbeard be involved? Jacques St Pier befriends a plantation owner named Stede Bonnet who has to decide between his friends among the Brethren of the Coast and the Law. At some point in their travels, Cat, Anne and Commodore Blake encounter a strange Welshman named Bart Roberts...
Proposed title - Isle of Black Sails.
Proposed symbol - A skull wearing a black tricorn with lit matches underneath with two crossed pistols.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Anonymous4:42 AM

An optional plot idea: It is 1718 and the Spanish and British empires in the Caribbean are being terrorized by a new foe, one who strikes fear into the hearts of sailors and Navy-men alike. He is a West Countryman named Edward Teach, better known by one name: Blackbeard! Duncan Ross is approached with a proposition - bring in Blackbeard and his allies either captured...or swinging from a yardarm. Meanwhile, the cruel pirate Charles Vane launches a surprise attack on the monks' new monastery and steals a map written in a Celtic language. It's secret: a vast amount of monastery gold hidden by Henry Morgan on a dark island inhabited by cannibals and dark magic. Could he be working for Blackbeard and the pirate-lord Hornigold? Cat and Anne sail off in pursuit and befriend a gentleman-sailor named Stede Bonnet - who must decide between his friends in New Providence and the Law - and a strange Welsh sailor named Bart Roberts. Commodore Blake is tasked with bringing an amnesty to the pirate-infested Bahamas with privateer Woodes Rogers. Not an easy task! Despite all this, Blackbeard is swiftly gathering his strength at his hideout in the Carolinas, who will be predator and who will be prey?

Proposed title - Isle of Black Sails

Proposed symbol - A skull wearing a black tricorn with lit matches underneath with two crossed pistols.
